I guess I'm complacent then, since I really don't mind sequels as long as the story is new and it's a new experience even if it's similar gameplay. Like I could probably play tons of games with Nathan Drake and be fine as long as it's a new story.
Given the pulpy nature of the story that actually wouldn't be so bad. However given the potential of Naughty Dog as a studio I'm sure people just want to see them go all out again (a la TLOU) on the PS4.

The potential inherent in a brand new story or idea is an alluring unknown as opposed to a sequel (generally speaking) being a known quantity.

This is true, and a lot of the hype machine depends on people building things up in their own heads.

A sequel always comes with baggage. Some of that baggage is the group of people who liked the original. This is the business reason behind a sequel existing at all. On the other hand, another inevitable part of that baggage is a group of people who either didn't like it, or who kind of liked it, but not so much that they want a sequel.

Is it a common thing that people want game devs to work on "new" things? Patrick and Alex have talked about wanting something else other then a new Uncharted and today they mentioned that they would rather not see Sucker Punch do a new Infamous.

While for me I love those games/series and want more.

If Naughty Dog and Sucker Punch never stopped working on their earlier franchises you wouldn't have Uncharted and Infamous.

I understand that, I guess I just don't understand people wanting something else since I like the games and since I know I like them it's easier to be excited about the game. While with a new IP doesn't interest me enough until it's out or like a month before release and I've either played it or seen enough demo's of it.

Well I guess I do understand why other people would want it but it's kinda impossible for me to feel that way.

Speaking of, I would have loved to have seen Amy Henning start a new IP at Naughty Dog after Uncharted 3. Now that she is working on Star Wars it kind of bums me out that still wont happen. I can see the Uncharted formula working well in the SW universe but I want to see something different.

But I guess a commitment to make a Uncharted 4 was probably part of OK-ing TLOU. A expensive new IP at the tale end of the generation when sales are down was a risk so I can see the business meeting where someone went "We will let you make this weird Zombie game but you have to promise the next game is going to be the next stop on the Nathan Drake money train"

Maybe Infamous should be left for a bit though. Second Son was ok but it didn't really bring anything new to the franchise and if anything took away from the more OTT comic book charm of the other two games. Felt stripped down. It was a launch game ass launch game (that happened to get delayed by 3 months)

Honestly I'm pretty excited for the next possible infamous because of how kinda barebones SS felt. I mean I loved it and there is so much that could be added and improved (side-missions) to make it great.

Ocelot is a crappy boss fight that Twin Snakes makes better. There's no good reason why you can't see the whole room. It's an overall problem with the game as a whole that so often you're shooting blind even though Snake would be able to see where he's aiming.

Uh, did they forget to save? I hope this is one of those situations where they play for a couple of hours and split it into multiple episodes.

edit: Great episode, though. I think everyone had trouble with that Ocelot fight the first time.

Dan confirmed in the comments that they did, indeed, save the game.

Did I hear right on the Madden quick look when Alex said the new WWE game will also have "sponsored by" moments to make it more like the TV show? Totilo's was the thing he mentioned.

Glad I finished MGS last week (again). It's cool seeing stuff I never found/tried like Campbell's history on Ocelot or Ocelot calling you an idiot for blowing up Baker.

I wish I knew who that was. Without the wrestling context, you could easily tell me that was a Marvel cosplay and I'd believe you.

first sentence is a lie btw
