I don't. I think the era of the 3-hour podcast is probably over. I expect they'll ease back in with 90 minute or 2 hour podcasts for a bit and a more renewed focus on purely games.

I also predict that Vinny may become the new host. After all, didn't he host the Hotspot for a while after Jeff was fired from Gamespot?

I also just got to the part of this week's podcast where Jeff talks about that theater in Chicago. I'm now really wondering what GB will look like this time next year if the new consoles launch in a fashion similar to Wii U, because I really do hear what other people are hearing: I'm probably reading too much into things, but between the CBSi struggles and the state of the industry, I do think Jeff is starting to be a little over gaming.

Doubt that. This is GiantBomb we're talking about it.

Thank you, Jintor.

Fuck me this is good:

Wow! Wish I could draw like that.

I imagine Quick Looks will be back next week, assuming the funeral is this week. Live stuff will be more awkward than taped so they might wait longer.

I bet they are all playing games right now. Easy to say "fuck videogames" but times like this you need something to take your mind off things.

Is there just a big ol' Ryan Davis playlist out there somewhere? I really need something I can just... leave on and just have it go through the best ofs.

I presume the funeral occurred already considering the death was last wed.

I keep mentioning it, but I really recommend the Not Like This videos for the ending of The Matrix Online. Vinny and Ryan in top form in these.

I know this sounds awful but I really want to see the guys putting out some content and just functioning....normally...well as normal as things can be now.

It's for my own selfish reasons, because I just want to make sure that the guys can still be in this environment. I don't know, it's hard for me convey what I feel.

Yeah same for me.

In a way it's bit like the saying "When you fall off the horse, you have to get back on".

They need some time to mourn, I totally understand that and I support that 100%. However, at some point it's actually beneficial to try to get back to a more normal life. It's part of the grieving process.

I dunno. I don't have experience in america. Here it would be hard to get anything arranged holiday weekend and if cause was not obvious they might have had to wait for a PM. A week is not uncommon here unless your religion demands it sooner.

Yeah my guess is Vinny and Jeff will take turns on hosting the podcast, TNT's and UPF's for now. Vinny still has to do his AV stuff together with Drew. Eventually I'd see them hire a new guy, not to replace Ryan of course since that not really possible but someone who can add something meaningful to the current team. I wouldn't mind Rorie being a more prominent member in shows and podcasts, but all depends on what the guys want to do themselves of course.

Also, I got the impression everyone was really psyched for the next-gen era. Pre-orders seem to be through the roof and there's a lot of cool games coming in 2014. This current gen. really took at least 1 year too long.

I wouldn't really mind seeing Kessler come in. I hate to say that so early but he would be a good fit I think.

If we're talking about new staff (still too early?), can't help but think how perfect Danny O'Dwyer is for the site. Dude just had some bad news himself, so would probably enjoy the change.

No one will ever be a replacement for Ryan, but training enthusiastic new blood is always a great way to get your mind off things.

I thought about it too. He might be up for the change but is he up for moving halfway across the world? That's a bigger question.

I think they will add a new video guy first. That way there is no suggestion that the person is a replacement (awkward both for the crew and the new guy). I am sure Vinny and Drew would not mind doing more on camera work or long form video edits in the short term at least. Seems a bit of a waste having a talented video guy monitoring quick looks etc, they could have an intern or a junior man the board.

I always wondered what would happen with the site if one person left. What with them being such a tight group. Of course I was thinking if one quit rather than this. My conclusion is that it would be different but ultimately fine in the end. Look at the hate Patrick got at the start and then all the disappointment when he moved away. If they picked carefully then someone else could gel with the group just fine.

Of course this is different from one of them quitting for another job so it will depend on a lot of factors : personal, emotional, etc Guess we will have to wait and see.

With respect to Kessler he hasn't really earned it. Hiring him straight out of college - if he really wants a future in the press he would do better being an intern somewhere and finding his own style first. There are an awful lot of good writers on the market at the moment to choose from.

A lot to ask. He might be newly single but all his friends and family seem to be over my side of the pond. With the recent layoffs at gamespot UK he is pretty senior over there too so might have eyes on making himself a name.

I always thought Carrie Gouskos would be great, but she's not anywhere near SF and a producer now, so yeah...

this still doesn't feel real. I've never felt like this about a public figure passing away

i hope the team takes the time they need and don't feel pressured into going back into things too soon. i'm happy enough watching the old content (I started re-watching the VJ DP before the news, and BR is definitely going to be next).

There's definitely a small crew of folks in the GB family that have appeared in content/worked with them in the past that would fit in chemistry-wise, but I feel like many would be difficult to work out given current situations. I guess they'll just do what feels right, and I expect very little to feel right for a good long while.

I can also see some changes happening to the site's mission and focus as they try to figure out what works best for the future. Reevaluating reviews, coverage, the things Jeff has been talking about in his Jar videos. If they find the strength to keep things moving, a fresh start in some aspects might help.

I'm certainly not suggesting that Ryan was holding back GiantBomb.com

This might eventually turn out to be a positive thing for GiantBomb.com however. It's entirely possible that they will want/need to change up everything regarding how the site moves forward and it's entirely possible (considering the talent and drive of those guys) that they'll move onto something that is even better.

Kessler interned with them... He was part of the site for a while. He could be taught by the best and become a great reviewer/entertainer.

Watching videos of Kessler, I don't think he has enough natural charisma/funniness to warrant passing over all the more experience people in the business. No offense to him or anything.

Finished the podcast last night as I was driving home. Uproariously funny and speckled with some really heavy moments. It was the perfect send off basically, and I don't think Ryan would have had it any other way. My heart goes out to the GB crew and Ryan's closest. The podcast got some real laughs out of me but when it ended I was just went back to being empty and devastated. God speed Bombadeers, thank you for all of the laughs along the way, I hope we're in for more in due time. And most of all, thanks Ryan for being the best damned host, hope you're jammin out to some Cher where ever you're at man

It sucks that it took Ryan's death to remind me how much I love Giant Bomb. It's good to get logged back in. Also, loving all these pics. Looks like I'll be spending more time at work today watching old quick looks again.

this still doesn't feel real. I've never felt like this about a public figure passing away.

I know.

It speaks to how media and entertainment has changed. Somebody like Ryan wouldn't have had the same public face that he did, and that's because of the internet. The glorious and painful thing here is that we can have hours and hours of content from a person whom we might not have ever "known" but can still make it feel like they are a part of your life.

I've been consuming a copious amount of Giant Bomb the last few days, listening to random podcasts and watching videos..

For me GB was an off and on thing, sometimes the banter was just background noise, but for major happenings in the industry they were one of the few sources I went to for opinion.

Ryan never really stood out to me as much as the other guys, but now that he is gone it's so easy to see that what he did was make everyone else that much better.

What's been so rough for me is knowing that they've been in the background of my life for the last few years and now there's a part of GB that will never return.

Listening to clips all day at work on YouTube, hilarious and depressing at the same time. I can't believe it....still tearing up from time to time.

After listening to the podcast, I wouldn't be surprised if Jeff left within a year. After they get everything settled I can see it happening.

I didn't get to finish the episode yet but what makes you think that? Is he getting tired of it?

He made some comments about him and Ryan mulling over the idea of just saying "Fuck all this videogame stuff, let's just do our own thing," making it sound as if they were both sort of tired of the industry. Without Ryan there, could be that he becomes even less enthusiastic.

That's human nature I guess. If nothing else, this is a good reminder to show appreciation to those around us that we love.

Watched the Boy and His Blob QuickLook yesterday. I forgot about the hug button. I still haven't braved listening to the latest Bombcast.

Jeff hasn't seemed super enthusiastic in a long time. I was just hoping it was generational fatigue but maybe he needs to try something different.

Is there really going to be a TNT today? I'm asking because patrick's stream got taken from the schedule, and it's weird since they said they didn't know when they would be back.

My guess is they are letting everything be a steam-time decision. Patrick said he almost did the Spookin' with Scoops.

I don't know if that's viable now, if it ever was. And I think Giant Bomb wouldn't survive without Jeff there.
