oh yeah, what was that thing jeff hinted at their pax panel happening at the card against humanity panel?

I am not sure which bit you mean but they did tease an endurence run announcement that turned out to be a troll. They did a video thing and then cut it before they announced anything.

Funny that they seem to get annoyed at people constantly asking after a new ER but can't resist poking the bear occasionally - which likely gets them even more people asking after it.

are they not doing any kind of live stream of the GOTY contender new release or something today? seems uncharactermaristic of them, unless theres some kind of embargo.

although i guess they arent that into monster hunter 4 :(

It's 9:19 a.m. for them. They probably either aren't in the office yet or are barely sitting down.

I can't really explain it but I'm really not a fan of Alex at all. His writing is solid but something about the way he talks is extremely annoying to me.

I've seen multiple people express this sentiment but I personally really like him. I think he does a good job on both Bombin' the AM and the movie podcast. Plus, he did some great Encyclopedia Bombasticas (Top Gear and Punch Out) a while back.

Live QL would be the greatest.

I dunno, it's risky in open world sometime. They could be doing a small side mission or activity and a character randomly goes "Damn, I wish Trevor were around to see this" or something ultra spoilery.

I'll be keeping my GTA5 content until after I play it.

Those heist missions sound pretty cool. It's a shame there doesn't seem to be that many in the actual game.

Yeah, the heist in GTA4 was probably my favorite mission in the game. It's cool that we get more of it and they're a little more in depth with the planning.

As someone who's completed SR4 but not touched GTAV, I subjectively disagree.

I'm mean it's gta. It will have a cool setting and great music and then the story and the actual game will be terribly boring unless you just fuck around in the world.

Same as it always has, same as it always will.
Accurate.

So guys, Jeff objectively thinks that GTAV is better than SR4 right?

4 stars vs 5 stars. I don't see any other way to interpret those results! (did I write that properly?)

My personal feeling is that Saint's Row IV, while an amazing and pretty much perfect game when it comes to the enjoyment you can extract out of it, it feels too much like Saints Row The Third.

There's no impact to it. Saint's Row The Third flipped everything we know about Open World Games on it's head and, like Jeff said it himself a million times, went all the way stupid. This is no serious game, this doesn't want to pass a message to the player. It's just a fun game to play.

Saints Row IV, on the other hand, just iterates on that aspect, removing some boring sequences (like the VIP missions, and most of the driving around) and added Super Powers (something that already exists in open world games like Infamous, Prototype, Crackdown). The difference between SRIV and those games? To quote Ryan Davis, the Needle is still stuck in stupid - it's just not that impactful the second time around.

GTA will always receive raving reviews from every game press site out there: Everybody expects the new GTA game, everybody is well trained to give out good scores (thanks Rockstar PR team) and the game is beautiful in many ways, including graphically, attention to detail, the creation of each ambient and the huge amount of things you can do in the world.

To me, personally, and I didn't even read Jeff's review of the game yet, it all comes down to how fun is to play the game. A great example: The Golf Minigame looks polished and amazing. Only thing is: I have ZERO interest in playing a Golf game. I'd much rather they spent all the resources and time perfecting the Golf Minigame section into making the entirety of the game more fun for the audience (which I don't know if it is or not).

I've always hated every single GTA game I've ever played, with the exception of GTA 1. To have fun in any of the 3D ones, I would have to act like a demented character, wreaking havoc at any given opportunity, while the game always wanted to provide me a boring and serious storyline that I didn't give two fucks about (and I'm mostly talking about GTA IV here). I really have my doubts they'll be able to turn that around this time, and all the "political" and "misogynistic" reports i've been seeing popping left and right don't leave me with much hope that they will.

Oh Red Dead Redemption. The best Rockstar game will never be appreciated with good Framerate or by the PC crowd that don't have a console/couldn't enjoy it this past generation. And that's a shame.

i don't see how it's impossible that Jeff can personally enjoy a game over another game he professionally thinks is superior.

I may be misremembering/misinterpretating things, but I recall the GB guys saying that they would review/score games to reflect only their own opinions (i.e. no 'this game is technically better so I'll rate it higher than a game I personally enjoyed more), and that the readers would take the reviewers specific tastes and quirks - which they learn through GB's personality-focused set-up - into account when deciding to buy or skip a game.

I'd like to ask Jeff about this on tumblr, but he'll probably roll his eyes and ignore me assuming I'm one of those score-obsessed people that start bugging him about every major review.

I finally got around to watching the Hatsune Miku Quick Look last night. That moment with the
censor
is my favorite QL moment in months.

Did you just post a huge fucking spoiler?

MK vs DC 5/5

i'm not sure of the point you're attempting to make here? obviously reviews are opinions, but a review can either be from subjective (do I like this game?) or an objective (is this game good?) viewpoint.

for instance, i think the shawshank redemption is one of the finest films ever put to celluloid. but that doesn't mean i wouldn't watch the golden child 9 times out of 10 if presented a choice between the two. shawshank is, objectively, the better movie; golden child is, subjectively, the one i enjoy watching more.

Scoops and the Wolf seems to be arguing about GTA for the sake of arguing. One second Patrick says that he's ok that the series have become middling since it allows Rockstar to experiment with other games. The next minute he says he wishes they'd take more risk with GTA because all of their other games are so experimental.

Make up your mind Scoops!

I am not sure anyone ever went to GTA for the so-called social commentary. I have always liked the games despite, not because of, the rather weak attempts at satire.

Al8so shitting on James Pond is going to annoy some 30 year old Amiga fans.
