it really isn't. it's a method of objective critique that i trust only someone of Jeff's caliber and experience to be capable of doing.

I wouldn't call it objective critique. Just because something is more fun doesn't mean it can't be subjectively inferior. It just depends on your criteria.

Looking at Bombing in the AM, Jeff seems to be in yet again another meeting.

For the love of fuck, how many meetings does CBS need? They seem to force one a day

Their meetings are now been scheduled over what could have been interested too

Been forced into that many meeting, would personally drive me mad.

That's why you bring chipotle in to the meetings.

Seriously, I do not understand how constant meetings can help the site. I understand it for finance reason - and raising questions about getting better gear to work with to produce better content, and talking about the overall vision for the site

But constant updates about what Giant Bomb is doing cannot help...

I am trying to imagine Corporate Jeff explaining why their 50 minute video of a non-existent Japanese pop idol was their most "socially active" content for the week generating "over 500 instances of community discussion"

That makes no sense to anyone. It is unexplainable in meeting format as to why Hatsune Miku is good for business.

Eh, the meeting is most likely a weekly update with his boss and the boss's teams. He's probably one cog of the meeting and different other parts of the department are there too. He's basically the head of a Giant Bomb division, so has to keep passing that info up and listening to the other guys talk about their team's week.

He's Irish, so all their meetings take place in the pub after work. Naturally, he doesn't remember having them.

My family is Irish too don't hate me

where have you worked before

Worked in lots of places. Worked at a Newspaper for a while - which is probably the most directly comparable.

For that job, I remember sitting in a meeting where it took 50 minutes to decide if we should use more "blue tones" on the front page, as someone had a graph that showed "higher instance of sales" for publication that had "prominent blue tones"

I think that meeting broke me.

Unfortunately this is what happens when your on-screen talent is also a direct report.

Usually you keep your talent churning out content, and have a producer/manager take most of the non-editorial meetings. But unless you want a 'suit' installed as Jeff's superior at Giant Bomb, he's got to take that role.

Those responsible for deliverables on deadlines hate meetings. Sales and Management seem to love them, even when they are the same damn thing week after week after week, to the point that they crack jokes about how it's always the same damn thing!

My 2nd download from PSN should be finished by then.

Never doing this shit again and screw wanting to have the game on my HDD.

Never should have cancelled that Amazon order.

Over the years, I got that install error quite a few times on PS3 and Vita on any games over 500MB. I learned it happens because my internet is inconstant, and one small broken connection leads to the file getting corrupt, It turned my away from ever trusting Playstation downloads.

Would not be surprised if some people have problems with their second download too - if that happens you, I am very sorry!

Listening to Bombing in the AM and having read Jeff's GTA review earlier, I'm not really sure about the comments regarding the general world satire. Alex kept saying that the joke formula was more or less hitting the same notes and filling in today's controversial headlines, but can't that be said about political/cultural satire in general?

Colbert is the pretty much same shtick today as 5 years ago with different headlines and people continue to enjoy it, makes me curious what it is about GTA's brand of satire that felt sort of stale.

(For the record I like Colbert and haven't really played much GTA before I get V tomorrow. Just genuinely curious if this opinion is Jeff's alone or a general feeling among fans of the series)

Whenever I don't want to talk to someone I say I have to go to a meeting. Just putting that out there...

Jeff probably just made up a meeting because he didn't want to skype in. He is saving the good stuff for the bombcast.

Seriously though, it could just be a regluar Monday meeting. They managed to record two quick looks and tape a podcast today so it isn't like he is in a constant kafkaesque meetings hell.

You realise that they could be planning the week in a meeting without any reporting or anything, right? I mean it's monday and all.

Please, no meat touching ma'am.

Man, Alex's mic volume is ringing in my ears. Every new sentence he makes is like he is hitting the peak volume. His voice has no nuance on how he talks then he stops almost abruptly. Also, its better to not say "like, you know, AH" loudly when you are trying to form a thought.

I'd say Vinny could go, but I'm sure Vinny's busy with lots of things. Him and Drew are always busy it seems.

Video work is stupid time consuming, especially if you have to do editing on it. Editing takes a while to get good results, then you have to render which takes a long time and eats up a lot of computer processing power and it's not long enough that you can just go do something else and put solid effort into it, but it's so long that you can't help but think "oh my goddddd this takes foreverrrr" it's a real bitch!

Vinny and Drew do actual work. Jeff has to deal with dealing with the bullshit of dealing with a corporate overlord and Brad....Well Brad browses Gaf and plays DOTA (at least he used to).

Hi Brad.

Colbert pulls it off because the show's daily so it stays fresh and he has a massively talented pool of writers, not to mention his own talent. Dan Houser isn't in the same league. Not even the same sport.

Honestly I find Colbert and Stewart repeating the same jokes madlibs style pretty stale. If you watch their shows enough, you can predict the joke before they say it.

That has more to do with them producing 30 minutes of content, 4 days a week. On the drier episodes, you can kind of see the cracks in the veneer. Rockstar took several years to write GTA V - them relying on such a cookie-cutter format speaks to their weaknesses as comedy writers.

If we're going to invoke math, the average ep is like 21 minutes, and that includes the guest and sometimes second interview session which isn't as scripted. We're talking 10-15mins of material per episode, four days a week, with them taking two week breaks every three months. That's not a ton of material. While GTA V is an expansive game that'll probably take 30+ hours to complete. Sure, only a small portion of that is the satire, but the Housers and other writers had to have their fingers in everything else too, and just because it's been years since the last GTA doesn't mean they've been working on it nonstop since.

i'm not sure of the point you're attempting to make here? obviously reviews are opinions, but a review can either be from subjective (do I like this game?) or an objective (is this game good?) viewpoint.

for instance, i think the shawshank redemption is one of the finest films ever put to celluloid. but that doesn't mean i wouldn't watch the golden child 9 times out of 10 if presented a choice between the two. shawshank is, objectively, the better movie; golden child is, subjectively, the one i enjoy watching more.

Just pointing out that Jeff seems like the person least likely to give a fuck about whether or not a game is objectively good.
