Gizmodo: "Most people have poor taste". 5m Galaxy note users CAN be wrong.

Ohhoho yes it does. I feel bad for them.

This.
I thought my phone was big.

Rolleyes. Whats ridiculous is the level of fanboyism (picking teams) around mobile phones/mobile OSs.

Preference is not necessarily fanboyism. I gave Apple a lot of consideration last time I bought a phone, especially because of their resale value.
I still laughed inwardly at iPhone owners when my Android-based LTE phone scored >55Mbps in a download test.

lol talk about over exaggeration

Not really. I can't stand browsing GAF on my phone, for instance. When I get home, the phone goes on my charger and out comes the iPad. Hell, the only reason I send text messages on my phone is because not everyone I know has an iOS device.

At this point, I might as well have a flip-phone because the iPad has taken over all the "smart" functionality. Some happy medium between the two devices would be ideal: big enough to work on comfortably, yet small enough to carry inconspicuously.

That picture confirms what I thought, the Note looks ridiculous up to the ear. The "remember when" argument doesn't work, you'd look ridiculous using one of those original cinderblock cellphones today too.

And yet, people holding a phone handset up to the ears don't look ridiculous.

It's really quite a silly double standard and meme that's been perpetuated by insecure fanboy types.

I mean, it's not covering up the majority of his face, it intuitively extends from nose to mouth (or roughly thereabouts), it's easily held in a single hand, and it is neither heavy nor appears to be heavy.

Is it the most stylish phone to hold against your face? No - that's easily concedable.

But is it 'ridiculous'? I suppose if you have a narrow world view and find it appropriate to assign hyperbolic adjectives to things that are simply out of the normal.

No what's ridiculous is holding a giant phone to your head. Has nothing to do with picking sides. Roll eyes hohoho.
It has everything to do with it IMO. To wit, I think you'd either not notice it was a big phone or not give a shit if you saw that in person.

Personally, I'm interested in the Note. People seem to like it.... Except this guy! Not only does he hate the Note...he hates everyone that uses them!

An Open Letter To the 5 Million Confused People Who Bought a Samsung Galaxy Note

I'd never buy a Note, but nonetheless Gizmodo is trash and has been for a very long time. It's a tabloid tech site, I don't see the point of linking to their opinion pieces as if they're worth anything. Almost every single article is 'Why X is the best thing ever' or why 'Y is the worst thing ever'. They'll bash the shit out of something for clickbait, and they'll praise the shit out of it the following week and vice versa, just to get as many clicks as possible. The opinion pieces are trash based on nothing but the need to be as sensational as possible, and rarely on real facts and reasoned debate.

This is a pretty dumb article. Not much to say, but I'm sure GAF will find a way and when I wake up tomorrow it'll be a 10 page thread. I can already see the precipitation mounting in the skies.

It's going to pour tomorrow.

Can we at least all agree that Gizmodo sucks?

Definitely agree with that one!

Personally I like the size of the note and hope more phones of that size do come out with high resolution screens in the future. My iPhone 4s's 3.5 screen is just too small.

I don't understand why the note looks ridiculous. It looks fine to me. Are cell phones not supposed to cover your entire cheek or something?

Sincere question, this might be linked to my lack of fashion sense

No there again you'd be wrong. It's the idiotic size, not the brand on it.

Idiotic according to you perhaps, because you have a pretty conformist (and shallow) view of what constitutes a respectable phone size, probably imbedded by the current popular crop of mobile technology. I say fuck the norm.

Since when did we give a shit about sensible and meagre anyway? We like big cars, houses, TV's, gems, jewellery etc etc, so why the fuck not phones too?

I would have agreed on the ridiculously large bit were it not for the amazing stylus which absolutely benefits from the size of the phone and would be rather pointless without it. It's basically a mini WACOM tablet, and it really is a joy to use.

It doesn't look ridiculous. Maybe unusual, since we've grown accustomed to small phones, but not ridiculous.

I'd hazard that many of us spend as much (or more) time using our phones for texting, apps, surfing, etc. as we do for actual talking, so it's a fairly inconsequential point.

Personally, I'm more concerned with how it'd feel in my pocket.

I'd love to get the Note, but it's on AT&T (terrible AT&T service where I live) and Samsung's pretty slow on their Android updates. Pretty awesome phone/tablet thing, though.

its not the size of the iphone i like, its the shape and weight.

I was really excited about the Note, I wanted one...craved one. I like big phones, my current is has a 4.7 inch screen but I walked into Best Buy to day to try out stuff before I bought it on amazon and low and behold numerous working Notes out on display. This thing is a beast, an ungainly beast.

Of course it's according to me. They are opinions. Trying to argue a case where the fashion of something is in question is pointless. Enjoy what you like, and don't care to two what others think of you.

Fashion in a nutshell. ;)

That's a lot of salt dumped on a modestly successful product. As long as the iphone is the most popular phone, manufacturers will ape Apple's form factor. More options isn't a bad thing.

I don't understand how can he rant about we wanting bigger things, and then not talk down the gigantic iPad screen of 9.7'' while 7'' is obvious the best form factor for a tablet, both in design and usability.

Seriously, i will never understand how can people use an iPad and not want a smaller device.

Crazy pills. 7" is horrendous for comics alone.

I find the title of this thread amusing considering what the first post was in the thread announcing the Note's sales.

Haha he mad.
I'm thinking of buying a Galaxy Note, actually.

I want big. I want a stylus. I like to DO shit.
And yeah, it'll fit in my pocket, I measured.

I currently stuff my wallet, 3DS, and Nexus One in my pocket without issue.

For those who don't know:

My only concern is how stupid it would look to use that phone for a phone call. But who uses their phone as a phone?

It looks stupid held up against your head.

Bluetooth or bust.

And yet we have apps on the iPad like paper popping up and just asking for a real stylus to be used on the screen.

Gizmodo can fuck out of here with these shitty articles.

I've always said this, there is nothing wrong with liking the note and not giving a shit how you look, but lets not front like it doesn't look ridiculous.

I wish smartphones were just a fad that would fade away.

I've noticed a general decline in sociability among pretty much everyone who has one.

Walking down the hallways of my university, I see students with their heads down, looking at their phones, meandering aimlessly about. Everyone else is a foggy shadow to everyone.

This is the way the world ends.

Eh. I guess. It's also how people avoid awkward social situations. Stare at it and pretend to text. Same thing at parties - you don't know where to look? Smartphone!

It's not going away...

What? I love my iPad, and if anything I'd want a larger screen.

But... iPad is harder to carry, cumbersome for use in bed (reading mainly), for me the two most important points of a tablet... And while 10'' does provide more screen for some things, it's has nothing that a 7'' cannot accomplish with ease, comics may be the most outlier.

Almost any argument they make about the Note is the way i feel about iPad. I mean, if you think 7'' is horrendous for comics, what do you think about 3.5'' for browsing, games, apps and typing?

Funny, i also love my Galaxy S2 (4.2''), if anything my next phone will have a larger screen.

Still... I don't really care about iPad on the market, or even a larger tablet. Not sure why people need to feel threatened about different tastes...

Just to be clear... Since the introduction of iPad i felt this way, and i liked that smaller tablets were being announced. I have a Galaxy Tab 7 Plus, i carry it around very often, i do not feel the need for more screen size. But for my phone i really miss the small screen, since the day i bought i wished it was larger, i will possibly get Note or its next version this year (and sell my Galaxy Tab because of this).

Stay classy gizmodo.

On that note wtf happened to gizmodo and engadget? They used to be great but now they are just shit. Gizmodo is basically apple PR and engadget is just shit now.

I use mine in bed all the time. Right now for example. Comics and PDFs are what I do most on my tablet. 7" is subpar for most everything one does with a screen on a tablet.

7" is great form factor for the Kindle e-readers though, if reading novels is all you're doing on it.

3.5 is fine. If they increased the screen to take up the face of the 4S, I'd be fine with it. I don't type on my phone, so you may have a point there. I only do quick browsing so again its fine, especially with such an amazing UI. Games are perfect as they are normally formatted to utilize the space. Since most are Universal, the ones that use the tablet space better I play there. And they would be lessened on a smaller tablet.

All opinions, but saying a 7" screen is better in design and usability is pretty difficult to debate.

Like I said earlier, as a tablet the Note looks fine, especially with the cool stylus support. As a phone, that's where it breaks down for me.

Reading that piece gave me about a recommended weeks value worth of Sodium condensed into a few minutes

GODDAMN!, High Blood Pressure here I come

I finally saw somebody using this while watching Wrath of Titans. Every time he turns on u just see a huge glow of light. LOL
looks redicules

I honestly wish it was a little bigger.

I honestly can see how it looks ridiculous. But I don't care anyway, is awesome for reading PDFs yet it fit on my pocket just fine (yet, it does). All I wanted from my phone. The extras aren't bad either.

You know what really do looks ridiculous? All those people using iPads as cameras.
