Gizmodo: "Most people have poor taste". 5m Galaxy note users CAN be wrong.

People who are serious about photography of course. Phones may have replaced the Point and Shoot for casual shooting but the higher end cameras still have their place.

Call me when any smartphone can give you the ability (the ability to take neutral density gradient filters and others) and the fidelity to capture a photo like this...

I agree about your other point about "the best camera is the one you have one you". Its been a godsend for professionals and casuals alike. But, with the advent of mirrorless cameras, I'm of the type that would carry both my smartphone and smaller high end camera because I want the flexibility the higher end camera provides.

I agree with you but we were talking about who looked strange nowadays and that's def those carrying actual cameras. They are the vast minority.

Most of the good Engadget writers left for The Verge. And Gizmodo is far from being Apple PR, they have been constantly begging people not to buy Apple products ever since they got blacklisted over the stolen iPhone 4. From a quick Google search (there's far more):

HEY EVERYBODY: QUICK DON’T BUY AN IPAD (Feb 8, 2010)
Why I Won’t Buy an iPad (And Think You Shouldn’t, Either) (Apr 2, 2010)
Don’t Buy the Verizon iPhone 4 (Jan 10, 2011)
Do Not Buy an iPad (Feb 1, 2011)
The First Free iPhone Is a F*cking Rip Off (Oct 4, 2011)
iPhone 4S: I Am Disappoint (Oct 4, 2011)
Unedited: The New iPad Seems Like a Pass (Mar 16, 2012)

Quite sad really.

ahahahaha....

this also works as a personal stereo.

Although that is a pretty bad ass personal stereo... I don't think many people actually carried around one of those things. On the other hand, nearly everybody was more than happy to use a telephone handset for over a century... and many still do, without complaints of size.

Recently bought a Note when I sold my iphone 4s.

As someone who's two biggest smartphone uses are
A. Texting

B. Watching Netflix in bed/on the treadmill

I'm very happy about my purchase.

I have man sized hands and don't wear emo skinny jeans so I've had no issue fitting it anywhere.

I use less than an hour of minutes a month (would rather punch myself in the dick than talk on the phone for more than two minutes) so it's fine for that as well.

I use to think i'd look a bit stupid when i got my S2, then after I used it I stopped giving a shit. The only people that care are the people who won't be using it, the people using it couldn't give a shit.

Why does it matter if some people want a phone with a bigger screen and others want a phone with a smaller screen? I don't see the point in arguing over something like that.

Of course the Note can fit in your pocket!

Man, look at Hammer go! That guy can really move.

Taste is subjective, and Gizmodo is full of shit. Breaking news.

While I don't agree with the design philosophy of the Note, I do respect it. It is attempting to find an akward middle ground in a world where calling people on the phone is become less important, and media consumption is on the rise.

I would rather opt of the small device + big device combo, rather than a medium sized compromise. For the people who don't really want to carry a huge tablet, this seems like the ideal solution.

I think this is an interesting point in mobile computing. We are decided phones and tablets are fine, but the middle ground isn't? Even if it doesn't stick, it is one of the ballsiest moves in the mobile industry in the last 2 years, where Samsung desperately needs to reshape it's image as a technology leader.

lol

The Note has to be the most polarizing device in recent memory. Like I said:

DrFunk said:
Best Galaxy continues to shock and anger

And fuck gizmodo, bunch of shit eaters

I've always said this, there is nothing wrong with liking the note and not giving a shit how you look, but lets not front like it doesn't look ridiculous.

Looks ridiculous to who, exactly? Take a step back and consider this in context. If this catches on (and it seems like it already has for loads of people), it will no-longer look ridiculous to people in the future. It doesn't even look ridiculous to everyone now.

Haha he mad.
I'm thinking of buying a Galaxy Note, actually.

I want big. I want a stylus. I like to DO shit.
And yeah, it'll fit in my pocket, I measured.

I currently stuff my wallet, 3DS, and Nexus One in my pocket without issue.

How big are your pants?

Do people really care what they look like when holding a phone to their ear?

For a LOT of people, their phones are fashion accessories as much as they are tools for work and leisure. And for a lot of those people, what some random passerby thinks of their phone, and how they look is one of the most important things in the world. In short,

You never truly leave highschool.

Who makes calls on a smart phone? I thought they were just for games , Internet and texting. Also if anyone laughs at you for using it you can just hit them with it. Seriously though I think some people are mocking the size to convince themselves they don't want it more than anything else but that's just like my opinion man.

He's kind of right, though. That "phone" is stupidly huge. I have nothing against big screens, but there's something to be said for convenience and portability in a mobile device.

Not everyone is insecure enough to stress over how they look while holding a phone to their ear for thirty seconds.

"people dont know what they want until they see it..."

*they see it and buy it*

"they need to have good design pushed onto them"

what a snooty, skinny-jean wearing douchebag

i assume skinny jeans since the phone cant fit in his pocket

Hmmm ... I am interested in the Note but it would be my primary phone (have no house line). I use my iPhone 4 for all my calls as well as surfing on the go. How is the Notes browser? Snappy?

Many still do? Do you not work in an office?

Most people use them more.

Seems like they hate everything from some of the links posted here.

My lazy post likely belies the fact that some crappy sell-out site run by those hilarious cads from Mythbusters has become my go-to place for tech news. Haven't visited Gizmodo in years.

It's not just size, is it? A normal phone like that is an awful lot more comfortable to hold during a call than an iPhone, let alone something significantly larger than an iPhone with the same form factor.

i agree with the statement, but not necessarily what he's referring to.

i think there's enough room for this kind of phone, and i honestly see it as something that will be more common than tablets in the future considering it does everything a tablet can, can use it as a phone, and it "fits" in your pocket (amazing concept) or small bag.

I think the Note is a sort of obvious evolution of the personal communication device. Phone functionality is increasingly marginalized. A larger screen that fits nicer in your hands for texting that also brings the other conveniences of the bigger screen is simply a better tool for communicating in the way society seems to be shifting.

There is still a serious issue of portability, but were I a woman (purse) or if I had to wear a suit more often (breast pocket) I'd buy the Note in a heartbeat. Better typing (for emails, texting, twitter, IM), better video chat (showing the daughter to grandkids) and larger work space than the iphone. Who gives a crap if it looks goofy the fewer than half dozen times a week I actually am forced to use it as a phone in public?

Yes, the majority can be wrong. But the majority can chose what is good for them. If you don't like what they like, don't follow them like lemmings.

plus, you have bluetooth and wired mics to use on it instead of putting it to your ear.

As someone who loves 4.3 inch screen sizes....He'd have to take it from my cold dead hands.

He wasn't talking about 4.3 inch screen sizes though was he? :p

4.3 inch is about as big as I would want a phone really. It's about the right size really to fit well in your pocket, feel comfortable in your hand and still be big enough to watch videos, play games, etc.

I got a gnex and I kinda regret not getting a gnote but its not on my Verizon unlimited 4g network :(

But 4.65" perfectly fine but 5.3" is fucking niceeeee

I hope the SG3 is @ least 4.8-5.0" and a almost no bezel and on Verizon.

While I dont like the Galaxy note, I stuff my vita, iphone, and wallet in my pants everyday. Along with carrying a laptop in my backpack. So he is wrong when he says it is to big to carry around.

Then again I have nice legs and wear shorts most of the time so I have big pockets.

It's not so much whether you can actually get it in your pocket, it is more about how comfortable it feels in your pocket.

Need pics to determine wether or not nice legs are true.

So.... "Everything should be designed the way I like, or else everything will end up looking the same" is pretty much what I got out of that.

This article reminds me why Anand and Ars are the only general technology sites I can read these days. The Verge, Engadget, Gizmodo et al. makes me want to stab my eyes out.

I know it's a quick Google search, but these articles are not completely indicative of Apple hate by Gizmodo.

Did y'all read the articles? Half of them are about buying and pricing strategy.
