God of War II hands-on & video interview [IGN]

Becos there aint no 480p in the PAL version of GOW.
Not at startup, not with holding x + triangle and not in the options menu. It does have WS though.
And many games with 480p in the US version were removed, with no good reason, when it's released in Europe, like Tekken 5, SC3, GT4 etc.
I just realized that you're right.

:(

Hey crazy Jesus-time, when you get back to our fair state, tell Cory that he's a bastard for his insano boss battles. Also, I'm playing your fancy-pants game and I think I'm about 10 minutes from making love to this disc. I hate you Jaffe. You didn't even direct this game and your Balrog of an animation savant is making me feel emotionally attached to a piece of pressed plastic. Can you do something about that?

Also, why don't you head up the 5 for about 5-1/2 hours and come drink with us this weekend? I'm divorcing myself from your evil devil nectar and it would be nice to make you do shots of Bushmills or something.
you asshole, send it down when you're done. I'll give you a nug.

this game will sell me a ps3. This is sony's best IP by a mile, and i can't wait for future titles in the franchise.

You all cry awesome now, yet it'll probably be bashed unfairly just like the first
I know, just because the combat system is more accessible to more people. Ah well, the game is ****in' awesome and I'm glad the game adds some diversity to the genre.
Just seeing that video, makes me all tingly. When I get home in a few weeks I'm going to replay the first one to prepare for part II.

I love my PS2 sooo much

This looks so mindnumbingly good, and we only have to wait a couple more months before we can stab that statue in the eye

Also, is it just me or does Barlog look really tired in that interview? Seems like he spent a lot of hours each day to make this game worth our while :p

That's exactly what I thought. It also remimded me of Jaffe saying that, while it was a great experience and all, he would never want to go through all that again, since it had been so exhausting.
I can see that in Cory's face. :lol

Yeah I saw this boss fight a little while ago. So effing crazy.

It's going to be a really really awesome game. I hope that it can stand up to the first one, over time. I think initially, there's no question its going to be a highly acclaimed game, but I'm more interested to see how it stands the test of time.

The first game is one of the most well designed games to ever be created. From the beginning of the game, leading up to, and into Athens follows such a rigid, and yet impeccably fluid design, that it should be used in schools.

Here's to Cory and many many many other people on that team, I hope they can live up to the great standards set forth for them.

HOL$#@_(#@IT, this game looks amazing. I loved the first and this one even looks better. Glad Sony is still supporting the PS2 and not abandoning it like MS and the Xbox since obviously there is still some juice left in the PS2.:D

I sold my PS2 a few months ago to start stockpiling funds for the fall gaming systems and games.

I NEVER FINISHED GOD OF WAR LIKE AN IDIOT !!

Game was great but for some reason, I got sidetracked and didn't finish the end, and I was real close.

Well, I bought it again last night and I will be finishing it. PS3 BC ftw !!

I will also be getting GoW II, Day 1.

They're a very vocal group, and a lot of gamers picked up on that bandwagon

I guess I'm one of the idiot Devil May Cry/Ninja Gaiden people (although I never post so noone would know that) but I guess I just didn't really enjoy it as much.

It's probably my fault for coming into it thinking it will be the next coming of christ but it doesn't really matter I still loved it and it's one of my favorite games and God of War II is one of my most anticipated games.

So wait, that's the beginning of the game? How in the hell are they going to keep upping the ante throughout the game if that is how the game kicks off? Not that I really doubt the abilities of this particular studio, but god damn, that's an insane introduction.

I seriously can't begin to conceive how GOW PS3 will turn out if this is what Sony Santa Monica is capable of on PS2.

All Xbots owe me a ****ing apology as for the last 6 years I've claimed the PS2 is indeed more powerful than the Xbox in a few areas. In other words, I'm not claiming the PS2 is a more powerful machine overall than the Xbox, but I am claiming, and have in the past claimed, that the PS2 is stronger at general floating point math, polygon fillrate, polygon transformation, and post processing than the Xbox.

If God of War 2 is not proof of this, get your eyes fixed or ban me!

This game will look UNREAL for a lat gen game on my 34XS955.

All Jaffe needs to do now is add hard drive support so PS2 and PS3 owners can install it on the system

Makes cutting off griffon wings in mid-air seem quaint by comparison.

I remember saying that when I first played the Hydra level :lol

Yeah, but see... in some ways, I don't think the raw intensity and OMFGism of the Hydra fight was ever seen again in God of War after that fight. Not that it really hurt the game, but there was something about that particular monster that was well beyond anything else seen in the game. I'm hoping this won't be repeated in God of War II, although as said, it's not really a dealbreaker.

once again, the hydra fight was entirely overrated. fortunately the rest of the game was not.

No actually enough cannot be said about the epic quality the Hydra fight has. I cannot fathom how anyone can call it overrated.

Some of these comments are really tempting me to watch that video but I am going to (hopefully) wait and hold off on watching any videos of it until it is released. Just reading this thread is more than enough for the time being. :)

-the smaller hydra made for a tougher battle than the bigger one
-you never feel in danger versus the giant hydra
-conversely, you never do anything that seriously injures the big one until you impale it
-qte is fine, but the "mash button as fast as you can" gameplay is lame

the first time through, i thought that was the low point of the game. that opinion really hasn't changed in the other four times i've played it.

None of that makes it bad IMO. It was jaw-dropping.

I was amazed all the way through the first one... in fact, the shittiest part IMO was the end fights; it's the only moment in the game that wasn't OMGhowTFcantheydothiswithaPS2!!!?

This only goes to show that you pretty much have to be a soulless bureaucrat to find the Hydra fight overrated.

you're the one taking weeks upon weeks to replay this masterpiece, don't take out your frustration on me

i'm thinking about replaying it again this weekend

that, or watch the lotr trilogy again

That's because the Hydra fight was the last thing they did in the game. To make sure that it was a great intro. A pretty smart design decision.
