God of War Launches Early 2018 (PS4)

I hope we can skip cutscenes on repeat playthroughs
GOW3 had such great gfx imo at the expense of not being able to skip cutscenes cuz everything was perpetually loading

Some time ago I believe through Twitter, at least that's how I came across it. Well I was reading a thread on neogaf that linked to the name

It was a few months ago. To celebrate the E3 2016 trailer reaching record views on YouTube they uploaded a recording of the opening orchestra playing the theme. Listed in the file under its details was Kratos son's name which somebody asked Barlog on Twitter if It was true and he confirmed it. lol

Maybe he just wasn't as good as this dude for the material. Or he was asking for too much money.
i won't buy the former because like I said, there is no way the new VA is better suited for a job that has 6+ years experience in it. ssm would not have kept carson around that long if they didn't think he was fit to do the kratos job

the latter seems more plausible but even then i would want an explanation. again since carson has been doing this for so long he should know what to expect in a god of war paycheck unless what they offered him was much lower than before.

But the Kratos in this game is a significantly changed dude, to the point where he's not the same man he was in those 6 games the old voice actor shouted through. They might have felt the narrative change and tone warranted a new voice actor?

But I think it being a business decision might be the more likely explanation.

I think the new guy sounds really good though tbh.

It's very promising that like Horizon, the core gameplay was already in place by last years E3... so almost 2 years of work on top of that to refine and polish that combat.

Sounds like no... I imagine masking the load times is why those cutscenes are there. At a certain point if the game loads before the cutscene is over, a prompt should show up or something to skip it.

This gif is amazing.

This is awesome, lol.

I loved the new materials shown. It's certainly one of my top games from E3. The new direction is also good. It was time for change and Northern Gods, Ragnarock, dealing with his kid, etc. should all add to the story. Props to Sony.

Everybody seems to be really focused on a negative reason. Money, or he's not good enough, etc.

It is far, far more likely that it was an artistic decision by the creator to go a different direction. That is not only more likely, but actually a much more valid reason than all of these other ones people are bringing up. Sometimes creators want a change, and that would make experience in the role irrelevant.

Maybe they didnt want to work with him again, maybe hes a dick. Maybe he doesnt want to work with them, maybe he didnt have time, maybe he didnt want to reprise the role, maybe he asked for too much money.

You're terrible at guessing.
So are you. His tweet indicated that Sony didn't want him.

And I don't like guessing games anyway, I want to know the real reason why.

The new guy sounds good but he doesn't sound like Kratos to me, the voice I've been hearing for many years.

In my honest opinion, Carson is versatile enough that he would be able to deliver a different style of Kratos - should ssm wish that from him. A business decision i.e too much money seems like the more likely explanation.
And? Carson being older doesn't mean he has the older sound that they may want.
?! That doesn't make any sense. How can an actor almost 60 years old who has already been portraying the character not be viable to continue?

honestly man I fail to see why Carson wouldn't be able to deliver a more seasoned performance.

Well, I disagree. Vehemently.

Sony also disagreed. Obviously.

Which means literally no reason given is going to satisfy you, so I guess just move on? It sounds like what you want to hear is not a valid reason to move on from Carson, but a smoking gun that points to controversy.

Wish you guys would let the Carson thing go.

I'm still searching but I thought I read a year ago it was due to motion capture stuff and Judge was a better fit.

It is probably because of motion capture and they probably improvise during dialogues to some extent so it actually feels like genuine interactions.
carson did mocap for kratos in the past.

call me vehement as well because no carson, or even the lack thereof of a proper reason given/explained for no carson is why i can't get excited for this game. but i'll leave the thread alone.

never.

Why would you skip those cutscenes though? They are amazing.

It kills on replay value personally. I like to play single player games repeatedly and having unskippable cutscenes is cancer imo. Its up there with forced hallway walking simulations/scenarios

damn that sucks... Here's hoping they fixed it but I doubt it

Is this game 60 FPS?
