The camera is just too close to Kratos during combat for my liking. I feel like the camera should be zooming out slightly (and upward) during extreme combat, so you can see the wider playing area, more enemies and therefore be more strategic with your play style.

Aside from that, it looks stunning. I probably will miss the fixed camera of the GoW games though, as it just had a more 'directors' vibe to it, with carefully placed camera angles to see scenery etc. But I realise I'm probably alone on this, I loved the fixed camera in the DMC games too.
I completely agree with you. The fixed camera was nice, and it allowed for some cool effects when fighting bosses or even tasks such as crossing bridges.

It really is far too zoomed in. I wish it was zoomed out so there would be a better sense of scale.

lol what? All 6 God of War games offered a real solid challenge on higher difficulties and it is where the combat shinned the most. Normal and easy are the only modes that let you get away with spamming the same combo. Hell, God of War Ascension literally had to get patched because people were complaining the Trial of Archimedes was too hard.
I guess I'm a gaming savant then. Button mash, roll and intelligently use magic. You're fine.
No the combat in the previous games was fantastic. Sure it was simple, but it was extremely satisfying and fun to play. Every hit felt like a solid impact.
Agree to disagree. You mow down enemies and it never feels like anything and unless you're taking down a large enemy I never feel the impact. Most of the bosses are defeated at the end of the fight with QTE and that doesn't satiate me. From what I've seen of this game, they aren't going to go that route and that's exciting to me.

I'm not sure how I feel about this.

This doesn't feel like God of War to me.

The combat looks okay but where is none of that gore the serious is known for.

Also, this feels like 'daddy simulator' than 'God of War' to me. The series is known for an epic adventure, spectacular set-pieces and boss fights. Didn't really get that sense from the trailer.
It obvious some of you just want the same game and thats just not what they going for.

Not the same game, but an evolution of the previous God of War titles.

I just wanted the DNA of the series to be intact.

I'm just getting TLOU vibes from this game. We've got Joel and Ellie in the form of Kratos and this kid. The over the shoulder camera doesn't help either.

Man, this looks absolutely amazing. It definitely has potential to be the best GoW ever. They have a brand new mythology to play with and it´s obvious they're going all out.

Just watched this and spidey in 4k on my oled

WoW. Best looking game of the show by far. Maybe both of them. So crisp. So good.

The combat in this game looks rock solid, the visuals are also on point. Just jaw dropping.

However, the things about this game that will elevate it from more than just an impressive game is what it seems to be hinting at. It seems to be a game about masculinity. From what I see, it has the potential to actually say something about: Violence, empathy, love, change, and responsibility. It can deconstruct kratos and MANY male protagonists in all of media, explore the concept of fatherhood, and give a fresh take on how we solve problems in games. The key parts that stood out for me:

-Kratos telling his boy that he shouldn't have mercy for his enemies, because he won't be able to fight if he does.
-His son wanting to prove that he can be a warrior
-His son telling him about how not everyone that seems bad actually is--i mean from another POV Kratos himself can appear as a villain. His justifications in subsequent GOW games just seemed to get flimsier and flimsier to me.
-The ending with the serpent was just absolutely brilliant. Much in the vein of where this game seems to be going with what it can say about violence and perceptions of the other--the serpent is presented to us like "OH SHIT. GONNA HAVE TO FIGHT AND KILL THIS THING" only to have those fears or excitement of battle subverted with the son saying that it wants to help.

Right there we can as the player, grow with kratos as we find ourselves not looking at each thing that pops up on screen as a potential target, but rather also a potential assistant or something with feelings, motivations, and its own goals. The original GOW games were a pretty superficial exploration of masculinity. Kratos is just presented to us as a guy that either fucks or kills like that's it. He's either fucking something on screen, or he's killing it in as brutal of a way as you can imagine. It's really telling how for example the GOW3 aphrodite encounter is handled.

In this game, Kratos is married, and his partner actually talks to him as an equal, imparts her opinions and co-parents with him. I'm just so hyped at the narrative potential of this game, like this could really be something we don't get a lot of in this medium.

BTW, how come his son understands what that snake was saying but not Kratos?

Perhaps his son is a native of this world (like his mother) and therefore had to learn the native language to survive while his mother also taught him greek to allow him to speak to his father. Meanwhile Kratos could not really give a damn about learning the native language

Love love loved that moment. Huge subversion of GoW tropes and just goes to show how much they're upending the formula with this game.

Methinks you are over-analysing a tad there

God of war has always been a series I've never enjoyed, the characters, the combat, it's always been incredibly uninteresting. After seeing this trailer though I can finally see myself enjoying GoW.

What happened to beard Kratos' voice?

A cross dimensional rift was opened which, when passed through by Kratos, caused his Norse equivalent and himself to switch places effectively stranding each within the others' world. The only thing which was not transferred is their voices.

True story :P

I've played (almost) every GOW game. Engrossed myself in the law and story. Enjoyed the eye gouging, head ripping, leg severing, face smashing etc. antics of each iteration. But by Ascension the formula had become stale. Thankfully GOW has now transcended that and taken a new, not entirely different direction.

Could anyone honestly look at these gameplay videos and not recognise GOW? No

It's simply

If you look hard enough there's little snake symbols all over the place.
I think story wise this is going to be a Dark Souls 1 type of situation. Don't trust them snakes brehs.

This ain't a God of War game it's a game with a character based on Kratos in it.

This trailer was majestic, one of the best I have seen on a e3 show. I have hype for most of the other major Sony games on their show, but this was of a different league to me.

Holy shit. Hard to link due to mobile and social media but the new statue they installed at the Santa Monica Studios of Kratos and his son looks wicked.

Y'know, I've been wondering, if this is in the same continuity as the previous games (it is, right?), why no number of subtitle? Just calling God of War seems really bizarre to me.

Kratos become human again in this game, like beginning of first game. full circle.
Easier to market for people not follow GoW series I guess.

Is it a sequel now ? I thought it was going to be a remake.
Combat against thr trash mobs looks mediocre, i hope it really picks up vs thr bosses.

The gameplay looks awesome, and I am interested in how thing is going to feel playing. Yet I am not happy at all with the whole father-son story, I had enough of it in The Last of Us, no need for God of War to follow the same path. Heck I could do with the same story just without the 'son' part, a story focusing solely on Kratos controlling his rage and facing his demons.

Liked it, quick impressions:

- the setting is very interesting
- larger areas and bigger focus on exploration compared to the past sound like my cup of tea
- graphics are stunning
- combat seems satisfying but...
- ... the camera is utter shit
- i don't like the tlou-like stuff for now, not sure it fits in a series like GoW
- many gaffers haven't seen a cgi movie in the last 10 years

I'll probably be there d1, but there are things i didn't like. Still way more promising than GoW:A, i sleeped through any footage showed of that one and didn't even buy it (only game in the series i never got or played outside of the demo).

this honestly didn't do much for me last year at the reveal beyond "wow, it looks gorgeous" but i'm sold and on the hype train now. my fears regarding the combat are gone. it looks fast, tactical and seems like it can handle multiple enemies. still as brutal as ever but with a nice subtle undertone of caring. i actually like the new voice of kratos more too. it still sounds like the old guy in parts, but he has the acting range to actually deal with more subdued scenes.

roll on early 2018.

I'm still so geeked over the visuals in here. Not just graphically (although for a base PS4 I'm really happy with this) but the designs are so good.

That screenshot of the enemy wolves in the fog for instance. Love how you can see their glowing eyes.

And that world serpent looks amazingly creepy. Like Beetlejuice when he turned into that freaky ass snake haha.

Cus it is a sequel in form of reboot. Same for Mortal Kombat 9 which was a sequel but a complete reboot so they called it Mortal Kombat.

my word...is that Thor's hammer? o_O[/QUOTE]

Well if it is Thor he definitely looks dead and unburied. So does that mean the ice giants are in charge?
