Considering these two. Gangsters was a pretty good RTS from what I remember, and I already own Omikron (Quantic Dream, David Bowie) on the Dreamcast, but it chugged quite a bit. Decisions, decisions

Omikron was never very good. I played the shit out of the demo back in 1999, and I think I was mostly interested in it because it was a ridiculous 163mb download or something. Crazy, even for my ISDN line!

But the gameplay mechanics are trash. The shooting is awful, and the hand-to-hand fighting is worse. I bought the full version of the game and realized that yeah... there's not a whole lot to like here. The PC version is waaaaaaaay better than the DC release, but I wouldn't say that's a particularly good reason to spend time or money on it.

Yeah, it's been years since I've played it on the DC, and I remember that the little bit that I played was... not too good. The FPS sequence had a poor level design and a ridiculous amount of obvious scripting (I think the first sequence was a supermarket robbery? I ran around a cleared out area for a few minutes before I realized that I was supposed to jump/crouch over/under something to spawn the rest of the enemies). I believe the fighting sequence boiled down to just button-mashing and/or spamming to win; it wasn't a very memorable sequence. The game's only saving grace was going around the city and exploring buildings, to unlock stuff and learn more about the world.

But yeah, if I get anything from this sale, it'll probably be Gangsters.

EDIT: Ugh, I should really get into the habit of reading a game's board on GOG before buying it. After I bought and downloaded Gangsters from GOG, it wouldn't start up, so I tried Compatibility Mode, and while it would start, the colors were messed up. No problem, just use DXWND to start it in a window, so I wouldn't need to use a bat file to kill explorer every time I want to play. So it mostly works now, but apparently, there's a potential game-killing bug (Hoods go to jail permanently, or are sometimes released at random) that was introduced in the final patch (1.4), which is the version that GOG uses. You can't downgrade to the previous patch, as it adds a CD requirement to the exe file, and the only no-cd solutions available are specifically for the 1.4 version (In fact, this has led some to speculate that the bug is actually an anti-piracy measure that the GOG version trips).

I might have to get the LSL games. I have them on disk but since my pc doesn't even have a disk drive, this would be the best way to play them again. However would I?

Ooh, this is a bit interesting. Firstly, it's a game I wasn't really aware had a PC release;

Shadowman

Dreamcast and N64 I was aware of, Playstation and PC less so.

Secondly, it's a licensed title.

Thirdly, there's some interesting bundling here. Purchasing the game also gives you a discount voucher (for the same cost of the game) off an official T-Shirt for a limited time, plus there's also a gift voucher to get an issue of the comic on Comixology.

I'm kinda interested to hear how this works out for them, because it's a really interesting proposal.

It appears that the licence to the game has landed back with Valiant, the publisher of the comics, so as far as they're concerned, it's pretty much free money for them and a free PR opportunity for said franchise.

Yeah, it makes an awful lot of sense. I think the bit that I'm most interested in is how cross-media a promotion it is; a physical item and two virtual products being distributed by two completely distinct companies.

I wonder if there's the same deal presented in the opposite order over on Comixology

Oooooh! I have the lovely attract screen music playing in my head right now :D. I used to turn the N64 on just to listen to it. I have fond memories of playing this and might just have to treat myself to this. Thanks for posting mclem.

Will have to pick that up. Deal looks pretty good.

That's cool, I never knew Shadowman had a PC version, I always wanted to give it a try with all the praise it got back in the day.

Wow, one of my guilty pleasures back at release. Never knew about how broken the game was and enjoyed it immensely at the time, I loved seeing all the different animated planet side screens and had fun trading goods and upgrading / buying new ships.

I do recall my copy having a paper slip in it saying something along the lines of "When talking to (person X), be sure to threaten him!") which I suspect was compensating for a bug found at the absolutely last minute

Yea I remember everyone going on and on about how awful it was, yet I loved it to pieces.

I'm thinking of buying some RPG on GoG, but I have no idea which one. I like games like Baldur's Gate (IWD and all similar), Ultima VII (not the older ones), Might & Magic VI-VIII (not the older ones). I noticed some possible choices like Divine Divinity and Wizardry 8, but there's simply too many games to browse through, so what in your opinion could be the best ones? Preferably isometric games like BG series, also not too new so that my computer can run it. But M&MVII is one of my favorite RPGs and it's 1st person game, so they could be nice as well. Any hidden gems?

You're going to need to list what you've already played.

Yeah, sorry should've made a list. Here's some games that I remember, might miss some of them:

Baldur's Gate 1,2, Icewind Dale 1, 2, Torment, Temple of Elemental Evil, Neverwinter Night 1,2, Arcanum, Fallout 1,2, FO: Tactics, Ultima VI-VIII, Might & Magic VI-IX, Betrayal at Krondor (I have Return to Krondor but haven't played it yet), Eschalon Book I, II, Diablo 1,2.

So basically I have played most of the more known games, so I guess I'm looking for some of the hidden gems.

Geneforge Saga would be up your alley, they're like BG although not as good (and the first couple are pretty dated visually/interface).
Divine Divinity
Lands of Lore 1 and Anvil of Dawn are good but if you don't like M&M4/5 then you may not like them.
edit: Nox, Arx Fatalis, Gothic 2, Avadon.

After those I think most recommendations will start getting into the "it's good but" territory with the caveats and warnings and so on.

Thanks guys. Some of the games are too old-school even for me, but Divine Divinity seems to be getting some votes, so I'm thinking of checking that out. With 6$ you can't really go wrong I think.

If you've like the Might&Magics, you might like Wizardry 8 as well. It looks like M&M9, except not ugly, and plays real-time with turn-based battles (you can switch to continuous turn-based, but I've never tried it). There's a lot of combat in the game, though.

Damn, just bought Divine Divinity yesterday :D though it's just couple of bucks. But I think I'll buy Wizadry 8 at that price, sounds pretty good (backlog yes, but doesn't really matter).

Speaking of which, no-one mentioned Grimrock in the list of RPGs.

If you're okay with the absolutely pure dungeon-crawl aspect of the game, you won't find a better release in the last five years than Grimrock. Admittedly, you'd struggle to find *another* release in the last five years, but it's still good!

I was thinking of that as well, but my computer barely meets the minimum requirements, actually I don't think it meets them at all what I checked. That's why I'm only interested in the older stuff.

GOG Free Release: Flight of the Amazon Queen

http://www.gog.com/news/free_release_flight_of_the_amazon_queen

Another free game release during GOG's 5th Birthday celebration. I wish they would push this whole month long celebration thing better as one long promotion. I don't think hardly anyone knows it is going on.
Are they advertising it as a new game on GOG that's free (and will be forever), or a game that is free for a limited time? Because I'm sure that it's been released for free for use with ScummVM.

I just realized Shadowman was available on GOG since a few days.
I bought it, again, just for the collection! Have it on N64 and PC but I'm so glad that title isn't forgotten, I got it again.

This is free for good on GOG. And yes, it has already been freeware since 2004, still nice to see it officially added for free on GOG though.

Are Wizardry 6, 7, and 8 still enjoyable today? And if I buy them would I be forcing myself to play through the first two to transfer my progress to 8? Is it worth it? Thanks! Surprised I've never played anything in the franchise.

waitin on that gogos
Strictly speaking, that probably ought to be based on OS/2 Warp.

Today's release is a little unusual; it's five indie titles - new to GoG, but they've been around a while - with a stacking bundle discount straight away. $1.99 each, or $0.99 each if you were to purchase all five.

The titles:

VVVVVV
The Adventures of Shuggy
Gateways
Ben There, Dan That! + Time, Gentlemen Please!
Escape Goat

It appears that they're going to be $5.99 each when the bundle deal is over.
