I remember how much I hated Chrome when it first released... To think that now it's the only browser I'll use is pretty crazy.

Same. The quick releases really improved it from top to bottom in short order.

4 years? Didn't realise it was that long ago, still prefer Firefox as I've been using that since before Chrome was out, but it's the only alternative I like using.

While Safari on Mac is making some really good strides Chrome is still the best out there. A wonderful browser.

*posted from my chrome account*

It was my main browser for almost 2 years but I've switched back to Firefox for now. I keep both installed though since there are things I like better about both of them.

<3 Chrome.

Only thing bothering me with it lately is that if two gifs are on my screen, it screeches to a halt.

Thats wild thats its been 4 years already. They get a lot of shit for trying so many new things. Especially when that new stuff doesnt work out, but when they do launch something that succeeds, alot of it takes off like a rocket. Chrome has done really well for itself. The browser share its attained is sort of mindblowing considering I didn't think there was room for another browser back when Chrome first launched.

Love Chrome for the most part, and I don't think I'll be looking back at Firefox or IE (lol) anytime soon.

In internet years, how old is Chrome truly?

Around that hipster 20-something age.

Firefox is the stodgy mid-40s dad and Internet Explorer is the mean-spirited 95 year old grandpa you hope dies soon so you can get the inheritance.

chrome is awesome. i'm so glad it came out. i don't use it anymore though. i use safari. safari is a million times better than it used to be, because it has played catch-up with chrome, so yay for chrome!

Yep, it really makes some threads unbearable to try and read.

I switched over to Chrome about a year or two ago after I got sick of Firefox freezing and fucking up large downloads in the process. Haven't looked back since then, though there have been a few issues introduced with updates (like the one earlier in the year where it would crash any time I tried to close a tab that was on youtube).

I've had it since day once and haven't gone back. Happy Birthday!

Chrome: embarrassing your favorite browser since 2008.

Ever since it came out I've pretty much used it exclusively. It's absolutely wonderful.

Four years of every other browser playing constant catch-up with Google's first foray into the freeware browser market.

The web as a whole has benefited immensely from it.

I love Chrome!

Loved Firefox before, but then, it started getting slower and slower... took forever to load on my computer... decided to try Chrome and never went back.

I use chrome when firefox acts stupid. Until chrome gets firebug full It'll be my second browser of choice.

Though I do LOVE when I install it on another machine and magically all my extensions appear, <3 google.

I find chrome's built in dev tools far superior to firebug at this point, unless firebug has made a major leap forward in the last 6 months.

And yea, Firefox has turned into complete shit over the last year. Clean install and it feels like it slows my entire PC to a crawl after 15 minutes of light browsing.

In all honesty IE10 looks like that grandpa died and is being reborn.

Love Chrome, use it on Windows laptops, my Mac, my Nexus. Incognito mode is so nice when you think there's something wrong with your cache (what, you mean you guys use it for something else?)

Wtf... it's awesome.

Maximize the window and watch as the title bar that used to contain the page title is now empty. Then move the mouse all the way to the right and try to drag the scroll bar. You have to move it a single pixel to the left or you can't grab it. Then there's how it stick out like a sore thumb on your desktop due to it using its own toolkit, but Firefox is kinda crappy in that area as well, only just not quite as much.

I assume those are all Linux-specific issues.

I mostly hate it for how it set the standard in bad UI design which Firefox felt they had to copy. At least I can mod the status bar right back into Firefox.

I have never had that issue. What gui are you using? I use unity and xfce with no issues.

Love Chrome but I still cant believe no one has made a good Twitter extension for it, they all stink.

Also I cant use Chrome at work because Firebug for Firefox is just too awesome for debugging websites.

Anyway, at home it is all I use for my browsing.

Happy B-Day Chrome!

I use browsers like I do my consoles; I have at least one of everything. However, Chrome (developer channel) gets the most use.

Is there any way to have the bookmarks pinned to the left on the screen in Chrome the way they are in Internet Explorer?

I don't like the way Chrome puts the bookmarks on a bar on top.

I couldn't believe how the jump from Firefox to Chrome was even better than the one from IE to Firefox. Just such an amazing browser and it's annoying when I have to use something different.

I've been using Chrome for years now.

Never looked back.

My main browser. Used it about two years ago on a Library PC, and loved the clean UI with less clutter to fill the screen.

I was using Chrome until recently. Now I'm using IE10 on PC and Safari on ML. But Chrome is still my fallback.

False. I'm using it right now and I have no problems with it whatsoever.

Why is it only awful for me? :(

Then again, even if it wasn't for these issues I just mentioned, being without type to search is alone reason to drop it.

Sweet! Happy Birthday Chrome! Been using it right from launch and loving it. I recently downloaded a stack of other browsers to try out and found issues with all of them when compared to Chrome.

Some examples:
FF - Uglier, slower, restore last session hidden in a menu
IE - As above
Safari - Terrible on windows, has a menu button that doesn't toggle the menu, instead it reopens it every time you click on it.
Opera - Has a tiny gap at the top of tabs so you always miss. Why??

I found it amusing how all of them felt the need to have more "Most Visited" icons on the new tab page than Chrome has.

I think the point where Chrome surpassed the alternatives was somewhere around 4-6. When Instant/pre-loading got added as a configuration switch and extensions started to get mature. I can't remember if the 6 week dev cycle and the wonderful browser update management were in there from day one or showed up sometime after day one, but I think they were a huge thing for me as well.

And worse than ever. :( In speed it's still the champ hands down, so I still find it useful when I need to look up something quickly. But man the thing has been one glitch after another this year. Firefox has regained my #1 spot.
