Do we know when the embargo ends?
To be honest, I find it worrying that the embargo overlaps with the launch.

I've been a diligent sucker and I ended up buying this even if I have some reservations about how closely it will match the original.
I can't really play tonight as I'll be out for dinner, but after that I'll be all over it.

Amusingly enough, I'll be playing this in a queue right after spending my last two weeks (re)playing Of Ash And Steel, which is pretty much a "We have Gothic at home".

I have no nostalgia towards the first game and thus Im not sure Im interested in getting this, besides the doubts about the quality of the remake. I guess Ill just follow up opinions from ppl here.

I am gonna wait for reviews and footage before jumping in because I want to know the level of wokeness this game has but last time I heard they took the feedback quite seriously and they have fixed most of these issues so I might jump in. We'll see

I really look forward to starting this.
There is a rumor that the game only runs 30 fps on ps5 pro. I hope it's false. The demo (old build, I know) ran horribly. The fact that there are no reviews out, scares me as well.

Loved Gothic 1 back in the day. Ofc it was mega clunky. Did they rework the combat or is is supposed to be a faithful remake with better graphics?

They had a video series explaining it all. Faithful but there's some modern touches like difficulty options. They also added something like 30 hours of cut content from the first one.

Fleshed out characters. You can now learn the Orc language for instance to get their respect some.

i saw a 1080p 60 fps ps5 video on youtube, dunno if it was pro or not but the menu definitely was 30 fps

Key Details on the Added Content:

• Total additional content: At least ~30 hours, largely from faction/camp-specific quests (for the three main camps), new side content, and fleshed-out areas. This is on top of the original's playtime.

• Playtime impact: The original Gothic 1 typically took ~20–38 hours (main story ~23 hours, completionist higher). The remake is estimated at 30–50+ hours overall (or ~10–20 hours longer per playthrough), with the Steam/PS store noting 50+ hours. Multiple playthroughs are encouraged due to branching paths and faction choices.

• Other expansions: The world is 10–30% larger (more detailed locations rather than just bigger borders), with revised quests, more NPC routines, expanded crafting/cooking, better orc content, and quality-of-life improvements while preserving the core immersive sim/open-world feel.

Thanks for the OT! Topher Topher The title is wrong though.

I will only trust TintoConCasera TintoConCasera opinion on this. Hopefully they didn't mess it up too much, if it's actually a 1:1 remake I might give it a try.

In case this one is a dud, you can always play the true spiritual successor of Gothic, but in 2D:

Thats awesome. I looked up already the playtime for the OG and was a little bit disappointed. ;) This sounds way better now.

Sorry mèx mèx but I don't think I'll be playing this anytime soon.

But I'll keep an eye on it, would love to know what changes they've made from chapter 2 and up until the end, which is where I feel a remake could really shine since in the OG that part felt rushed for sure.

No reviews or fps confirmation for consoles like the pro. Game isnt even on the disk. Expecting some bad results here 4 console bros

I just want to know if they decide to added inverted control options. The demo lacked them which is fucking insane in 2026.

Should be "Gothic" instead of "Gotchic".
Trollpher is being cheeky. Instead of using the descriptor as the burn he has changed the games name to piggy back on the character model drama.

Read it as Got Chick…see it's very clever!

Don't be mean to him…he is getting REALLY old (and don't think so gud no moor)

TES 6 should steal that idea with weapon swings, so that swinging a sword looks different at LVL 1 compared to LVL 100
True, but I think that'll be the least of TES 6's issues. ha! This is not the same bethesda. I have no faith in 6 being good.

"Gothic remake review uploaded before embargo by a German review outlet"

"Gothic 1 Remake achieves something that many remakes fail to do: It preserves the soul of the original.
The colony feels dangerous, alive, and believable again. Decisions carry weight, progress must be earned, and the world trusts the player to find their own way.
Of course, there are minor technical flaws and some deliberately old-fashioned design choices. But it's precisely these quirks and rough edges that make Gothic feel like anything but a run-of-the-mill modern role-playing game.
For me, the remake is exactly the return I had hoped for.

4.5/5"

Luckily no pre order deluxe editions shenanigans so I can wait for reviews and impressions before diving in.

$50 is a great price but I want to know what the deal is for both pc and ps5 pro.

Hoping DF puts out a video. I'm guessing this will be a real looker maxed out on the 5080, but I won't lie sitting on my ass on the couch for a massive game like this sounds optimal.

If you preorder you get the soundtrack. If you care about that. I bought a key for $34, so I don't know if I'll get that or not.
