GoW2 - Why is it so clean? like an X360 game

Agreed.

I don't care if someone says Christmas. I like Christmas. I got a ****in' tree downstairs right now! :)

But for me, I'm tired of being told I'm TOO PC because I choose not to offense huge swaths of the population by simply assuming EVERYONE digs the Jesus.

**** Viral marketing. I HATE that shit.

This is just me, not Sony talking. I'm not giving the official line or anything like that. Not my place to.

But to me, I've always been of the mind of: show your product and if it's good and relevant to your audience and a decent-to-great money value, people will show up for it. Period.

I have NEVER purchased shit just because of viral marketing. Or ANY marketing for that matter.

I hope the failure of Snakes on a Plane (even tho I hear it was a decent film) stops marketers from going ga-ga trying to tease and trick people into shit.

I think the idea of a commercial and marketing campaign trying to sell you on a vibe or feel or idea VERSUS the product itself is very old thinking and is no longer relevant in a wolrd where we are all so connected. It worked in the past but word of mouth is way too strong now.

Ok, sorry to rant. You hit one of my pet peeves! :)
Glad to see you hate viral marketing too. That shit is awful and runs rampant in some places... Put your design and development skills to use, not the marketing department :)

Marry Christmas David!

I'm not suggesting I was playing it on a next-gen system, mind you. But I couldn't believe PS2 was capable of such beauty, that's all.

I've always felt that GOW1 looked better than NG and I own them both. If you were to compare the individual parts of each game NG would probably win in every area but GoW just comes together so amazingly well and thatÂ’s what matters.

It's all in the presentation. God of War's art direction destroys NG. It's also a much better all-around game.

Oh and **** Bill O'Reilly. For all I know there are Jews reading this, Christians reading this, Agnostics (like me!) reading this! So if I want to say HOLIDAY instead of Christmas, then **** you O'reily!

Ok, can you tell the last minute Xmas shopping is getting to me :)

See ya'll!

Muslims are reading this as well.:lol

NG is actually a decent length of a game and has has better gameplay, so no it's not a much better all-around game. And the art direction in GoW most certainly does not destroy NG's, especially the design of Kratos himself. It had a few scenes that were awesome like being on the back of a titank. But the game look fairly generic throughout.

i think they both have shit art direction. I think GoW is definitely generic in that area, but i also think it may be on purpose. I may be speaking out of turn here, but GoW seems to just draw from a good deal of source material (not just mythological) to create characters and environments that are recognizable and epic all in the same moment. It leverages preconcieved notions and past experiences quite well IMO. Lots of gamers were able to immediately feel comfortable with Kratos and the world whereas NG is a bit more jarring.

NG, on the other hand, is just plain weird. I like the game more, but seriously such a waste for something so technically noteworthy to be so tacky and cheesy looking.

all "subjective" i guess
but seriously, come on

I prefer NG over god of war because of it's length, greater difficulty and depth, but i think that GOW has better art for the most part.

It's more a case of NG having a few inspired moments in the area of art direction while god of war was consistently awesome throughout. Ng's art was very strange and somewhat incosistent. GOW has a theme that's very well thought out and it keeps delivering for the whole game. It also has better presentation and much better music.

As for which title looks better, NG is such a technical marvel and the art direction is solid enough.... it's the better looking game... but GOW is amazing when you consider that it's a ps2 game and still manages to be one of the top 10 best looking games on any platform this gen (maybe even top 5)

I found GOW inconsistent. Some levels were like wow, this is awesome (on the back of the titan, and then other times rather bland and uninspired. This is subjective tho, I guess. I am just bitter about the first game, because of how awesome everyone claimed it to be and when I played it, it felt so shallow (as in you can button mash your way through the game to do cool moves and whatnot) and short. It felt like the action game from the Ninja Gaiden/Devil May Cry genre for people with lesser skills. I hold Devil May Cry 3 and Ninja Gaiden in much higher regard because of this.

okay seriously how the hell is this shit funny. all he did was open MSPaint, draw a crude word balloon, and put the word BULLSHOT as if the minotaur was saying it. do you people just have negative threshholds of humor? If I were to take a random photograph of a cat and photoshop it saying "bullshot" would I get 20 responses filled with ****ing :lol 's? what if I used gary coleman? would that be more or less?! steven segal? there's a system here at work and I sure as hell don't understand it. I think I'm a pretty mirthful guy but seriously I don't get what people find funny these days. I mean he just ****ing photoshopped the word "bullshot" into a screenshot. how is that funny?!?!?! will someone please explain this to me?!?!?!!?!?!?!?!

You got those instead of Titans in GoW2. Fair trade I say.
WoW! Looks to be what I wanted (though different in 'feel' than the titan, awesome in its own way!)

QFT.... The Titan was one point in the game where i had to wrap my head in bedsheets because I thought it was going to explode.... I mean the Idea has been done before... But The GodoW team did such an amazing job in the execution of it. I was sooo frickin impressed to see the titan... SOOO frickin impressed.... And just how he was walking and everything was great great great about it

Here's another awe inspiring shot of the titan
gow10.jpg
Totally agree. My head exploded too. Just the idea of this giant giant guy walking in the desert for thousands and thousands of years, coupled with the amazing execution. It felt like it had a history (something that most of my all-time favorite movies/games have in common). An epic scene that pushed all the right buttons. And then later in the game you're actually like 'holy shit, I can see him walking' (pic you just posted).
My love for this game only grows as time goes by.

Oh I hope this game functions well on my PS3 and HDTV... I'm scared after watching the CG intro to Kingdom Hearts II the other day :(

and STOP dragging GEARS into everything including PS2 stuff now... it was bad enough it got dragged into NON-FPS games like Motorstorm, now it's in here... One person says "i thought this was about Gears", others then post the same thing, we get the point...

God of War = GoW
Gears of War = Gears OR GeoW

God of War was here first, and an AAA title at that, so it gets the cooler, easier to say breve...

So :P

i think it's pretty safe to assume that any internaly developed ps2 games released in the future will be totally forward compatible with ps3.

Actually, GOW2 looks very good so these screens are pretty representitive of the game. Just a bit cleaned up ala red Steel shots
IIRC they're taken at a higher res than normal (tiling), then downsampled.

Unbiased Basturd said:
The devkits can display at higher res than what the actual console is capable of.
Um, nope. There's a piece of code in the debug version of the game that takes several screen shots at a standard resolution, then stitches together to make a single high res shot.

In my mind, God of War did one thing incredibly great that no other game in history ever did as far as I can recall.

The temple on the Titans back: It wasn't just a temple that only the hero enters. Many people in the game tried to make their way through the traps of the temple trying to find Pandora's box. The heros that failed were brought outside the temple by monsters and burned by that crazy dude.

There was also a logical reason why traps were in the temple (aside from stopping the player and making the game challenging) The architect being contracted by Zeus and then going crazy was an awsome touch.

It's such a small detail, but yet while I play games like Zelda I can't help but ask myself why no one else is after the artifacts, and sometimes even why the heck traps are set up.

I really hope God of War 2 continues with this "making the ingame world make sense"

and I thought I was special for marketing "not working on me"

I got this in my email today
Happy End of Year from Xfire
thats a new one.

I hope that GOW2 can start off as action packed as GOW. I'm not pro at the game so after finishing it on hard I just play the first 20-30 minutes on god mode when I want to play it and thats enough because the boat part is ****ing awesome.

ps2 can do some HD resolutions but has to fake them maybe. GT4 had 1080i by doubling 540(or so i read here).

Lol, please, I beg of you, go put Ninja Gaiden Black in your Xbox again (if you even have one), because you honestly do not know what you are talking about.:)

Have it right here on my 360. Yes, it's one of the best looking games of this past generation, but it does not top God of War in every area of the game. There are things God of War does better simply because of the hardware it's on. Xbox doesn't have as much raw polygon fill rate as PS2, nor does it have as much frame buffer bandwidth. This has been discussed numerous times at places like Beyond 3D.

Which game had no load times?
Which game had motion blur?
Which game had more moving objects on screen?
Which game used polygons for distant backdrops instead of flat 2D pictures?
Which game had better animation?
Which game had better depth of field, transparencies, particle effects?

Answer:
God of War

The first stage showed off the PS2's fill rate pretty remarkably with all that rain. I was pretty much floored when I fought the Hydra, in the rain, with motion blur, I don't think I've ever seen a game jump off the screen like that before.

I could argue the other way too, and that's the point here.

I don't think the Xbox could run God of War, there just isn't enough frame buffer and fill rate to do some of the effects, and I don't think the PS2 could run Ninja Gaiden it just doesn't have the memory or the pixel shading capability.

Am I saying PS2 is more powerful than the Xbox? No, I'm not. It isn't. But there are hardware designs that allow it to do some neat tricks the other consoles would have trouble doing properly.

Grayman

It isn't line doubled, it's 1080i just with some over scan space used as part of the resolution. It was the 60fps that made it possible as every two frames are blended to create one field. This gives you 1080i resolution 30 fields per second. If it were line doubled you would get no increase in resolution. In other words, it wouldn't look like this.

I didn't include Muslims because- to be frank:

a- didn't know if it was Muslum or Muslim...now I know :)
b- Didn't know if that was the official word, or if it was Islamist...to be frank-again- I am not sure of the difference, if there is one.

Goes to show how little an average agnostic knows about that particular religion.

GAF MS fanboys won't let go of their 1 and only great 360 title after a year since release. They will keep dragging it into every topic that involves good/great PS2/3 games just to troll. Gotta deal with it, cuz it won't stop anytime soon...

But yeah, I agree. Gears of War imitated God of War's title too much. And now Gears fans are trying to claim the acronym "GoW" as their own, when God of War was out way before Gears was. >.>

This post is one of the most pathetic trolls I've ever seen. Just wow, I hardly thought this thread could get any worse.

In other news, I can't wait to see what GoW3 will look like on PS3.
