I got it to work very well, but head tracking is not as exciting as I thought it would be. Maybe if they patch it to work in GT mode I will give it another chance.

Those PC tracking devices (like TrackIR) would provide more accurate results and work well in simulation contexts. The PSEye requires quite a bit of light to be accurate and, as you noted, only works in the Arcade mode (which doesn't make a lick of sense to me).

If they fix it, I'll have to test it out again.

I feel like Japanese developers will never get shadows this gen :(

DMC4 and MGS4 omg :(

To be fair, very few western powerhouse studios have even gotten it. ND has it right. And not many others.

i wonder how many help did PD get/ask from wester SCE studios.

BTW, which resolution is best for overall enjoyment? 720p or 1080p?

Is there a possibility that PD will add more races to the game? I'm not talking about new cars or new tracks or anything - I just want new events to constantly play. I would really like to see the return of the manufacturer events for one.

I tested both last night and would still give the nod to 1080p despite the quincunx AA.

It baffles me why they didn't use the MLAA code. Maybe it came too late in development.

Did PD release any GT5 dynamic themes?

Would be cool having a nice car slowly spinning around in the background like when you view the cars in game.

Global self shadowing is extremely costly. It really kills performance in PC games when you are allowed to increase the amount and detail of it.

I mean, GT5 already has a lot to tackle, the game was set to render 400,000 more pixels than 720p, dynamic lighting, 16 cars on screen, 60 fps, weather effects, 2x-4x AA, and then self-shadowing. Devs will have to have more processing power to tackle it across the board.

There was a full back page advert in the METRO newspaper yesterday, A few million people would have saw that.................

There has been absolutely nothing else :/
SCEE are running a TV ad campaign. The advert isn't very good but its been on a half time in all this weeks Champions League games, just a couple of people will have seen that.

Not many copies are being sold from the local HMV I have friends working at though, so the ad campaign's probably not very impactful but it's early days in the run up to Christmas yet.

Don't care about head tracking, but I wish I could reassign either the face buttons or the paddles on the G27 to look left and right. I've changed every single controller and wheel configuration in the options so that shifting is never assigned to anything, but the paddles still shift.

Anyone else having problems with Top Gear challenge #1?

Those effin buses.

The best advice is that you need to take the inside corner. The buses almost always go wide, so if you can grab the inside corner you can start passing them rather quickly. For example, if you play things right you should be in at least 9th by the time you exit Chicago on the first lap, and you should also be able to grab 8th before entering Hammerhead. The other thing is that you need to draft. Even though the buses are slow, you can pick up an extra mph or so which is extremely valuable when it comes to catching the 1st bus.

Ordered the Driving Force GT just now.
For $99 on Amazon you'd be insane not to buy one.

Now to either get a Ridgid stand from Home Depot for $30 or get a Wheel Stand Pro for $100 mmmmm

yup, backread for a bit

Best I can do is 2nd, the one in first is usually way far out ahead.
You can do better than that. After I knew what to do, I was first by the hammerhead of the second lap.

In the first few turns, look for a smooth line that sort of zigzags / weaves through the traffic. You should be able to catch a few cars there. Then outbrake some more at the hammerhead. The final two corners are the most difficult, as you're going fast and it's easy to go wide and/or bump into others.

Pretty much the same strategy
for the next Top Gear event.

MLAA ties up 5 of the SPEs if I remember right, not leaving much for physics or anything else.

marc^o^ posted earlier that Kaz confirmed in an interview with GameBlog that they'll be add new Special Events through DLC.

About shadows. In some circuits ( like the third in the sunday cup ) shadows are good. Is this because of not being a dynamic lighting circuit that has night-day transition? ( i remember reading not all circuits allow to play in different time/weather conditions ).

Yay. I like how the game will at least keep on building on what is there. If they can gradually release some premium car upgrades, online balances and new races, i'm happy enough with the game. Perhaps it will be the kind of game that will score higher if you re-review it later (like Prologue spec III).

I really need a wheel. trying to tame the Civic turbo charged + lightened on the Top Gear Test Track is holy shit. :lol

What does the 1.01 patch for 133mb do? Does it iron out the screen tear like the patches for Prologue?

No that update is yet to come (Dec 1st as of now). I think it may have something to do with activating the online portion of the game and I may be wrong.

No. It's a day-one patch to include the online mode.

Ridgid stand is working well for me.

It might tilt a bit when you do a sharp turn, but you can use the weight hooks on the stand to make it more stable.

WSP. Thing in all the racing games you will enjoy with it, go for the best investment.

Huh? I thought GT5 uses MSAA.

The limitation of MSAA shows its head ironically because...well...the godly lighting that PD does to the game. It has a real issue with such dynamic contrasts and loses it's attributes showing up more aliasing than you think. You're going to need a lot more than even 4x (which is rare into itself on consoles).

I don't want to alarm anyone (as half my posts seem to :lol), but I'm not sure there are any endurance races in A-Spec mode. I'm just shy of level 25, have finished every event through Expert Mode, and have the ability to go into any race in the Extreme Series. So far, nothing. Assuming I can get my hands on the FormulaGT (yes, despite the fact that there are 2 Ferrari F1 cars you have to either buy or somehow earn the F1 car from GT4 for the LV23 F1 event) I should be able to have finished off A-Spec mode entirely by tomorrow at the absolute latest. Maybe then a 6th tier opens up (how else do they expect anyone to earn enough XP to get to level 40?) someplace that has endurance races and/or that fucking Redbull X1 :lol

Damn it! The servers have now blown up and are trying to take my PS3 with them.

3 complete lock-ups in a row on the lobby screen........

*Goes to get golds*

They've confirmed a v-sync patch?

From a few pages ago (it came with a link) which stated it was looking to improve the performance in the framerate department. If they improve that then the V-sync issue would be mitigated as a natural byproduct.

There was a new video linked earlier that Polyphony wants to do more Special Event races as DLC. :D

There's definitely a freezing issue related to custom soundtracks - can't figure out exactly what's causing it, however.

Music fails to start at the beginning of the race and it locks up shortly after.

Have you eaten these past days?

And that's pretty alarming... how much you've clocked in hours?

ok I installed the game data when I first booted the game up (6.x gb, took over an hour), but the game still keeps background installing stuff (like when opening the manual or choosing a track which is quite irritating as you have to wait until it loads).

Is that normal? I thought it would install everything possible if I choose to pre-install.

Break out the bubbly boys. MY DRIVER FINALLY WON A FUCKING RACE after 10 attempts. 1 win/11 races. WHOO-HOO! Despite it being a suped up Civic and sweating taking first, he. did. it! :lol

One race in the Sunday cup B-Spec down, two to go.

Yeah it's normal. Sony should have an option to install the whole game to the HDD. At least then I'd be able to play the damn game.

Yeah, I saw that too. Some guy said they "appeared" at level 20. That was a few days ago for me :lol

Yup, even been out to the movies and gone to work! Haven't gone to the gym though :lol. But I've had the game since Friday. I'm probably approaching 40 hours..... 30 at least.

LOL good job man!

I'm not gonna be able to play much today. Having Thanksgiving dinner early with the family, and won't get done til probably 7PM or later. :/

<3 my family, but....but....................I wanna play GT5!!! :lol

Serioiusly, I am really digging the game, I like how stuff is cut off from use. It gives me a sense of progression.

At every nice rounded turn I cringe because I'm using the DS3 and not a wheel though ... hurry up Christmas damn you!

PS - is tearing prevalent in later races or something? I'm level 8, doing some amateur stuff and I haven't noticed it. The shadows and once or twice some pop up in the distance is it but I'm mainly focused on the car.

I can't wait to turn HUD stuff off ... why they think I'd care if I. Talianio is in 4th place is beyond me, especially with that much real estate devoted to it!

Is there any kind of stats-tracking in single-player ( as in, how many hours you have played, how many cars you own, how many miles you have travelled etc. )? I'm a stast-whore, and while it is never a make-or-break situation, I would be a bit disappointed if it had none.

And yeah, my copy is still in shipping.
