I saw a stream on jtv and some guy was doing a V8 bus race, sdsdjsfdskfd :lol awesome, i must pick it up soon.

people always ram cars in racing games online, makes me :lol and >(

I'm getting super close to getting gold licenses, I'm getting like mostly silvers.

I'm using the Driving Force GT wheel.

It's like.. Gold is 14.500 and I'd achieve 14.519.

About GTTV (probably the most overlooked feature yet lol)

You can export the movies to PSP - but in fact you can watch them on any portable device.

It's an mp4 file in 420x270 that you can copy from the XMB to an external HDD/PSP etc.
Good to know I'll try it on the iPad.

You know what I love about this game?,

It makes you think about the simple act of driving on a whole new level, during the license tests for example you'll be shown what seems to be a stupidly simple little bend that you have to navigate, you think, "ok, piece of piss", but then suddenly that simple bend becomes an obstacle that requires thought, precision, and finesse, combining rate of acceleration, brake control, gear control, angle of approach and exit etc, nothing but GT does that for me, this game has it's faults but the driving experience isn't one them, and at the end of the day that's what this game is all about.

Exactly, and it's this reality that seems to get on people's nerves. I have a friend whose whole family have raced/tune/fixed cars their whole lives. His Father picked up GT4 and was putting in great times, and even commenting how cars he has driven in real life have the same issues in the game. My mate's buying GT5 and a PS3 for his Dad and I'm going to wait for his opinion of the game because I respect it more than some 20 year old game reviewer who probably doesn't have a driving licence.

Every single sim since like 1998 does that. Some even do it better. (physics that is)

I'm glad you're enjoying the sim part of the game though, the genre can always use more fans.

Wow, the course creator is a bit disappointing. I wanted to make a kart track go around the start building of the Tokyo kart track, but you can't do that. I guess LBP/MNR raised my expectations in user generated content too high. :(

I'm not at all disappointed by it. Made one track with huge elevation changes and lots of sharp turns just to try it out. In the context of the game making tracks by tweaking variables is the only solution that makes sense in my opinion. Maybe they'll go nuts in GT6 with the course generation stuff but there's so damn much stuff that I can't be bothered by the "shallowness" of the editor. It's great for randomly generated rally courses and will spice up online races nicely.

I dunno. I'm disappointed I can't make a cork-screw elevation or overpasses on the track. Like I said, I think Mod Nation and Little Big Planet spoiled me on user generated content as anything I think up I can generally do (within limits) on those. Random course design + tweaking "points" isn't the same. :(

I have the Driving Force Pro (Official wheel of GT4) and I'm enjoying the hell out of the game. So the Driving Force GT - which basically just has a different button layout than mine - should be just fine.

I turned Power Steering on, and force feedback at level 8 out of 10 to give it a good feeling of resistance. On corners it has a great feeling of being able to tell what the tires are doing through your hands, so to speak.

It's great dude... I love it. The pedals are the weakest part of the package imo. Kinda cheap feeling and no clutch, but they get the job done and I don't feel like breaking and accelerating are really affected. If I make a mistake, I never blame the pedals. Also, the wheel is a bit smaller, but honestly... who cares?

This is a great wheel. If you have more money to spend, there are better wheels out there, but I don't think for a second you'd regret purchasing the DFGT. I had a better one for a while, but I don't regret "downgrading" since then. I don't play racers quite as much as some people, and the DFGT seems like the perfect fit for me... quality wheel (that feels realistic) at a good price.
Cool, thanks for the impressions to the both of you! :)

Where is my screen-tearing Polyphony?! I been playing for 6 hours now and haven't seen any tearing yet! I might have to return mine for another copy which has the screen-tearing feature because I'm feeling left out. :(

Let me add to them, I just got my DFGT and GT5 last night, it's my first FF wheel and it's awesome. The feedback is really strong and it makes the game so much better.

Happy now Fersis? :D

Sucks that I still have to sleep. I though I wouldn't have to do that once I got GT5... :lol

The "Grand Tour" Special is really nice, but I suck at the rally races. Gotta practice :-/

I'm not one to notice that generally either. If anything, the only thing I notice in games is pop-in, but meh. I don't see craziness in what I've played so far in GT5.

I can live with the game looking like "GT3 HD" for alot of the time because it's so much fun to just drive cars in it and the content seems almost limitless. What suprised and dissapointed me was the near constant sub 60 fps framerate and tearing I encountered playing the first cup in Suzuka and SS5. That's not right.

Are those of you who are using steering wheel faring better in attaining those golds in the subjected classes?

In every racing game I've ever played I do far worse with a wheel, but it's the more fun experience. Less things to deal with when using a controller and more precise imo.

I wish I had your eyes. frames rate drops as well... Both these drop when I move from my lcd to the plasma though. I don't know if it is just tracks or whether my tv settings come into question.

Dual-shock is kind of good for those who were interested. You can still feel the car so to speak.

Let's get gaf stats going. who is on the highest level on gaf at the moment? is it amar? he got the game earliest...

Has the
"Tank Car"
shown up in the used lot for anyone else? Didn't have the funds to acquire it but sure looked like a blast to drive.

Hmm, I'm using plasma. Fairly sure I had my 200hz motion smoothing bullshit turned off too, so it may have something to do with plasma vs LCD, you may be onto something there.

How do I get the Top Gear Test Track in Arcade mode? I'm past level 4 and my brother says I've unlocked it but it's no where to be seen when I go to use it in Arcade.

Edit: No worries guys, google search is my friend.

Amazing, amazing, amazing, amazing, amazing. Even better than I hoped. Got it from amazon yesterday afternoon and brought it home to play with my bro over TG. We stayed up till 1 am playing with my dad. Taking turns on the 2p mode, trying out different cars and tracks, an laughing hysterically at every crash, screw up, and spin out as we tried to outdo, out maneuver, and out drive each other.

It felt like being a kid again with my bro, sneaking in game after addictive game while stifling laughter to keep from waking our parents. Only now my dad was in on it too, laughing just as much along with us. Towards the end of the night "just one more game" turned into another half dozen before we finally relented.

I haven't played video games likethis since the SNES and early PS1 days and now I'm doing it again with GT5 and it's so fuckong good. And this is just the first peel of the deeply layered onion that is GT5. It's gonna be an incredible ride.

I'm pretty sure you have to Gold the Top Gear challenge. Good luck with that one :lol

You'll never look at old VW buses the same again.

You have to get gold in the SambaBus Special Event.

it's just less, not non existant... but it might just be certain tracks though...

I'm using a Driving Force Pro, and after I mucked around with the settings (I think I set it to Professional) I've noticed the wheel requires a lot more rotations to pull it around corners. Am I at a disadvantage if I leave the wheel on amateur settings?

Also I want to buy an R32 GTR, and I notice that there is one Vspec II in the dealership, and a few others in the used car section. Are these all premium models or are there some standard and premium models of the same car?

That is awesome man. You playing with a wheel?

My sister came over to my place earlier today we also played some 2 player in GT5. I agree that it was pretty cool :) This was also when i especially noticed that GT5 actually has some nice speed feeling to it, especially from the bumper cam.

Found a used Dodge viper GTS '99 for 60K! Already own a Used NSX. Just like the old days :D

All I need now is a good EVO and I think world domination comes soon after.

Fuck this game, I have to get Gold on this shitty event in order to freely use the Test Track, mind-boggling decisions from PD once again. Not only that but the game is tearing to hell and back whilst I'm trying.

It's so infuriating when you miss a gold time by like 0.2 secs :lol

Anyone else jumping out of their seats and pumping your fists after 'golding' your licenses?

After a few of them i think it's sort of a requirement

feels like "FUCK YEAH I CAN BEAT ANY TOP RACER IN THE WORLD NOW!"

only until the next license test fucks you until you cry

Also the music for gold trophy is all like "you've climbed a mighty hill, you deserve a pat on the back". At least, that's what it sounds like in my head.

I haven't tried to gold them yet, but if anyone completing the SambaBus race without cursing, then they have a ton of patience. At one point I flipped off one of the SambaBus and started cursing when I tried to overtake it on Bacharach and just barely clipped its back end, which of course disqualified my near flawless run up to that point.

Overtake on the turn from followthrough RIGHT BEFORE Gambon. Watch your speed, avoid the red cones. Cut corners when possible. It's do-able. If I can figure out how to export my replay file and someone wants to upload it to their Youtube account, I would. But it's probably longer than 10 mins.

Finally got my copy. Really enjoy the driving, even with just the DS3. Damn wheel stand is still on its way. Can't wait to play with my DFGT.

I got lucky with that one, only took me about 5 attempts... with some 'minor' collisions to keep me on track, which thankfully didn't disqualify me. :D

Thanks, do you mean Bacarach? I've been doing that, and to be fair I've been bombing through most corners pretty successfully. What peeves me though is how I'm not allowed to nudge the opposition yet the game has no qualms about them side swiping me at corners.

As much as I'm raging, I do love this game. The driving physics have been notched up from Prologue massively.
