Gran Turismo 7 Review Thread

This cafe mode is like crack! Definitely the best campaign mode in a GT game.

This weekend I thought I would do a couple races, then go back to Elden Ring. But ended up playing GT for 19hrs. :messenger_tears_of_joy:

I really like the RT mode for replays. Even if it is 30 fps. It just looks so different from last gen racing games in this mode. Its just too bad the menus become 30fps when in this mode. But I feel its still worth it overall. Man, when watching a replay of a race at night, and the brake rotors start glowing red, and casting this warm red glow of light. That's hot!

Apples to oranges? How? Last time I saw Forza is also a racing game, or am I looking at the wrong thing here?

All I'm saying is that people are boasting that GT7 is the "bets game ever with a Metacritic of 88" when other games, in the exact same genre, have higher scores.
FH5 is far more open to more players than a sim circuit racer that is obvious. They are both great games but also very different.

Who cares? GT4 had an 89 and was significantly better than GT3 despite GT3's meta of 95.

I've never been into any driving sims but decided to give GT7 a go after watching that state of play. I think the graphics, campaign and dual sense implementation is whats winning me over to like a driving sim. I thought it would be VR and that was pretty cool with DriveClub, but that didn't really do it. I know some swear by the steering wheel and pedals but I wasn't going to make that much of an investment leap into a genre I don't normally like.

It also helps that you can just see and feel the passion they put into this game. I'm not a car guy, but anything taught to you passionately can demand respect. Without the dualsense I think it would feel too much like the other games I've tried in the past.

Or is it just one of Phil's balls in my throat?

Gran Turismo 7 Review: Country club racing - Stevivor 7.5/10

It's far from the lowest score the game has on Metacritic.

And people give poor Stevivor shit over their supposed harsh reviews lol.

Only because their 'harsh reviews' seem to be all saved for PlayStation exclusives.... for some reason he doesn't go so hard on Insomniac games but they seem to be the exception.

The guy also has a load of pics and clips of him acting like an Xbox fanboy....which would be fine if it didn't affect his scores.

Finally.
This is guaranteed to be an unbiased review because they had to buy their own copy instead of getting one for free from Sony.

"Gran Turismo 7 absolutely slays Forza Horizon 5 – and by extension any other Forza titles released in the last 5 years – when it comes to the racing."

Same publication gives Forza Horizon 5 a 10/10 and GT7 a 7.5/10

OMG, that is embarrassing. Same reviewer?

That publication is a joke with its scoring. I guess they are just continuing the trend.

And he still couldn't give a Sony exclusive a score he's ever given to an Xbox exclusive. Incredible.
All PS exclusives go from 35 to 80 and Xbox exclusives go from 85 to 100 lmao.
He'll always be banned from getting Sony review code again
I'm not sure if it's all a single person but it's clear there's some bias at that place, either an individual or collectively. The easiest way to see if a review site is a little fishy is to see how much it sways from the aggregate score for the games. stevivior consistently has Sony games sway way below the average aggregate score and MS games sway way above. That trend continued with GT7 for them as expected.

Anyway, I don't want to give that place any more attention than it deserves.
For people who have the game, what wheel are you using if any? I'm looking for a PS5 wheel at the moment and would appreciate some recommendations.

Not going to hold brief for him, but he clearly puts a disclaimer there ‘when it comes to the racing’

Want to do the right thing and add the stuff he didn’t like?

That is great, because he will always be able to deliver truly unbiased reviews then.

Or salty reviews because he has been completely ignored by Sony.

You can't possibly believe that all MS games deserves scores between 100 and 85 while all Sony scores go from 35 and 80, come of now. If you don't see any bias here then you're like that place.

You fell for the bait lol

Haven't played a GT since I was a kid and hated these games since they weren't "fun" and I just couldn't get the turns right. But I've become a fan of F1 in recent years and have had an itch to play a serious racing game like this.

It's awesome! Usually can't play a game for more than an hour these days (elden ring, horizon already in my backlog) but I played GT7 all weekend

Hello hello.

How is this game in 2023? Did Polyphony ever sort out the in game market/grinding for credits/MTX situation?

I think I completed the game and doing the extra cafe menus.
After basically finishing everything with little or no problem, up comes the Light Weight K Cup race.
And this brings up the main issue with this style of play.
I buy the car they suggest you use (because I don't own one of the required) The Honda S660.
On a 5 lap race, I am barely passing the 15th car during lap 4.
Never had this issue on a prior race.
By giving the 3 top cars a 1/2 lap lead and not letting you do any major upgrades, it makes the race a chore.
Can't change tires, can't go above 400.
I wish there was an option to turn off the PS1 era "our AI is so bad we have to give all other cars a huge head start" mode, at least for races where it really is unfair.
BTW, I know that isn't solely a Gran Turismo problem but I thought it would have been solved by now.
I miss the days of using a Genie on a PS2 and removing requirements.
I would lap those fools on my racing Supra. ;)

Made a crappy phPBB forum once ... once.
I agree, its a not a race it's purely playing catch up and if they go off into the distance you might as well quit.

I've always hated that you have to start fucking last every race.
