Gran Turismo Sport Beta Thread

Definitely a T300 if you have the money! [well if you have even quite a bit more money, wait for the new GTS wheel or get a Fanatec V2 + GIMX(or ChronusMAX)]
The GT Omega stand that Gutterboy44 posted about a few back is probably the best solution, I have a wheelstand pro, it's really solid and inexpensive. I don't feel the need to upgrade. Wouldn't recommend standard Playseats, they're not bad, but not great value in my experience, better to upgrade the GT Omega stand to a full rig then.

But for me personally, if I had no real interest in other Playstation exclusives, it wouldn't be worth the money to buy a console for GTS. This still feels a lot like GT5 and GT6. I don't feel a jump to next-gen, for me even Forza's jump felt bigger (admittedly I never played 4).

On the good side, it feels like GT and GT games are pretty great(FFB is definitely better than Forza's, far more like a car), it's far from revolutionary, the only really amazing thing are the replays.

If I was really itching for a new GT game, but didn't have a PS4 and no interest in other Playstation exclusives, I'd probably force myself to wait for Black Friday, then buy a T300, a PS4 slim in a GTS bundle (or even a used original PS4) and half a year of PS+, not earlier.

That wheel money is definitely not wasted if you play other sims on PC, even if you were always fine with how your DFGT felt.

Slim?!?! Pro will be the best experience for this.

My first go at doing this stuff so it doesn't really look how I was wanting it to look. :)

If the game had proper collision physics instead of bumper car physics maybe ghosting wouldn't be needed.

With SR it almost guarantees you get good racing, but mistakes, bumps, accidents happen its part of racing..but a gentle touch side to side with the current physics can send you flying offtrack... i was really hoping that PD would finally sort collisions in GT Sport :
Yeah. I've never liked Forza nearly as much just for that reason. The cars have such fragile grip already so when you touch somebody, it can send you flying off the track. Same with Car Project but I think. GT is much better especially if you're on super soft tyres, but still could be better.

Hey, if he has a 4k TV, sure, I'd probably go all the way then too.
But if he doesn't and only buys the PS4 for this one game, I'd stick to Slim or used, framerate seems fine no boost mode needed for me.

Let's wait until the game is released, with damages and weather conditions. Might be a different story then...

To be fair to all these more realistic games, at high-speeds, a quick bump from a vector other than your own should cause wheel slip that can totally mess you up, especially if you get into a correction sway. You're right that more simplistic impact models can make it feel like a silly "glass roads" mode for what feels like an arbitrary window of time.

This is what I'm waiting to see. GT6 was the last PS3 I put a significant amount of time in and loved it. So if GT Sport is everything I hope it will be a system seller for me. I have the Switch purchase out of the way and my PC is upgraded a little to the point it should last me the next few years. Nothing stopping getting a PS4 now and GT is a game that would push me finally where others I thought would but didn't in the end.

I don't see a need for a Pro simply because I don't have a 4K TV. Hell I still have a 720p tv that has worked well for me all this time with my setup. I care more about performance though so would like to see how the final game runs. There really hasn't been that big of a difference has there between performance on the PS4 (original or slim) compared to the Pro has there?

We don't know if GTS has been optimised for the Pro yet, or if the final game brings performance issues to the vanilla PS4. Assetto Corsa and pCARS both got big boosts with the Pro though. Both hit a solid 60fps now UNLESS IT'S IN EXTREEEEEEEEEEEEEEME WEATHER.

Those were simply bad console ports though right? I would assume GTS should be optimized for the PS4 as that model has the largest user base compared to the Pro and it is a first party game. I guess the revised question is has Sony's first party titles ever had a large improvement from original/slim to Pro?

I would think they shouldn't. I mean I would be very surprised if GTS or any first party title was designed for the Pro first and then forced on to the original models.

Why? If you say something is rock solid then....it's rock solid, no?

Edited my original post. In normal driving conditions it's a solid 60fps, which is good for all fans of racing games everywhere. We all love all driving games because we are fans of driving games.

If you had no problems with GT5 and GT6's framerates...then I think GTS will be ok for you. I can't imagine it could be worse (5 and 6's framerates were terrible terrible imo...).

But if you expect rock solid framerates in GTS...then: wait and see.

I don't think there will be any problem with framerates in GTS. Fully expecting a locked 60 even on the vanilla if the beta is anything to go by. Kaz seems to have *thankfully* prioritised this again after some years in the wilderness.

This is so close to perfection. Just need better textures on the interior.

Shouldn't you wait for the new T700 to come out so the T300 will drop in price?

I thought GTS beta did not have their damage model implemented? Or are we just looking at collision dynamics?

The cockpit view is kind of a mess right now. I stopped using it, despite being a 100% cockpit view driver in all racing games. The bad FOV, the over exaggerated window reflections (you would put anti glare coating on a race car window or wear a polarized visor if your windshield was reflecting as bad as it does in this game) transmission whine to engine noise ratio way off, especially in MR cars, and last but not least, lack of seat adjustment and not being able to disable the arms and wheel. In HDR I don't get the overly dark cockpits, but then again I am not exactly looking at my dash when driving. I would like a look to apex setting as well.

I ll believe it when I see it. I think it will be fine without rain...but under rain? I don't think so... I hope I am wrong though as a good framerate is THE most important thing for me...far before anything else..

Is there rain in GTS, or just a wet track?

Lol, no. Even on 1080 it'll be so much better aliasing and other effects.

I never heard the name T700 before, but if that's what the GTS wheel will be called, then:
Definitely a T300 if you have the money! [well if you have even quite a bit more money, wait for the new GTS wheel or get a Fanatec V2 + GIMX(or ChronusMAX)]
But just waiting for it in hope of a price drop is not a good idea, in my opinion. Very different market if what Kaz said is true and it will be a direct drive wheel. The higher demand for PS4 wheels when GTS and pCARS2 will be out, will influence the T300 price far more (meaning "up", summer 2014 I paid 236€ for my Thrustmaster TX directly at Amazon non-marketplace, a year later when pCARS1 was out and Forza 6 big in the media, they wanted 389€).
However you might find good deals on a T500 or a Fanatec V2 if the GTS wheel will indeed be direct drive, not more than 799€ and getting good reviews [but so far I still doubt it will really be direct drive and we don't know when Fanatec's direct drive wheel will be out, might be a 2018 release].

That would be good if so. The damage shown pre-release to GT5 looked fantastic before it was pulled, so it's possible. Anyone have *that* blue Subaru gif handy?

Please stop. People ridiculed that system xD.
Its dead. Racing sims have never been able to model damage properly: mesh deformation. Most of the time, you have specifics parts falling off or cosmetic changes. I would keep expectations in check.

"So far" framerate is absolutely "rock solid" in general gameplay..........Replay's are not. Weather is of course the unknown at this point...

Look at BeamNG.drive
raw

It can be done, but 1) our hardware is not ready (that physics engine runs at 2000fps and even that should probably be higher to look more realistic or if we ever want to get chassis-flex out of that system) and 2) the tech is still underdeveloped.... and 3) you have to model the full underbody and what's under the hood (development time would be intense).

I don't think it will ever be accurate: thats a leading computational science field and implementing such calculations in a game engine would break all costs.

All thats needed is something that looks realistic. Even making it look realistic would require a ton of effort that I think many racing developers simply do not see worth it at this point in time.

Most damage is limited to what car manufacturers allow. A manufacturer isn't going to allow their production cars to be destroyed realistically in a game, full race cars shouldn't be an issue though.

The thing about crashing is that I think GT is more of a Kaz's perfect world simulator than a racing simulator, and ideally no one should be crashing his cars so therefore he doesn't bother working on crashes.

Exactly, not every manufacturer will agree to this. Soft body physics are fine but can't be done with licensed cars.

Other titles manage. PD doesn't want to. It's been that way for years. Won't affect sales or enjoyment, as it's always proven.

It's crazy to see the same rehashed discussions every version. Let it go folks. Enjoy the photorealism and enjoyable sim. Call it a day. GT is like it's own genre of car game. The focus is on something else. All in all, damage does add an extra element of strategy online. But it's rare you get to play with good people online let alone non trolls that will just wreck everyone at lap 1. It's in other enjoyable games, like pcars. I'll probably get both and alternate. Whatever their formula is. It works every time. We put up with all the delays too. There is something to be said about this franchise and it's personality. Interactive car porn is a pretty solid feat in itself. I think that's sort of the point.

Anyone have any beta codes? Please.

Butter everyone up then beg for a code! I SEE WHAT YOU DID THERE!

I'd love to see what times you'd be able to pull mind 8)
