Gravity Rush (Vita) review thread

Guys, that is NOT the UK/European cover, the one we've got is in line with every other region. This is the European cover:

I hope that's true, online stores all have that one, I figured Sony went crazy and decided to give us a silly one in the op for no reason.

Good news.

Yeah, the US version is so much better, must be the first time that I prefer the US one over a European cover, so hopefully we get the same box art.

Can you confirm it?
It's on Sony's official website. The cover in the OP originated from GameKult a long while ago, just shortly after SCEE changed their mind and changed Gravity Rush to a retail release, but it was never posted by any other sites. Considering it doesn't even have the "memory card required" logo it's safe to assume that it was a working cover.

What's the best gameplay videos I should be watching?
I know next to nothing about the game, and my Vita is the most dormant system I've ever owned. Open to some experiments.

That art for the UK box is really nice, but not boxart material.

GAF always complains that video games reviews are meaningless because of the perception among the public that games need to get an 8 or higher to be considered decent. Then Jim Sterling gives a game a 6.5 and everyone shits on him for giving a bad review to a game that you haven't even played yet.

Make up your mind ReviewGAF or just admit you let hype get in the way of taking honest reviews seriously.

First off, GAF isn't a person. Odds are that the people who complain about journalists handing out high scores easily aren't the same people complaining about Destructoid's review.

Also, there are plenty of people on GAF that have played the game. It's been out in Japan for months now, and some imported it. Not to mention a lot of journalists/reviewers post on GAF. shidoshi did the EGM review for instance. Try to remember that next time before throwing around generalizations and making assumptions.

I almost forgot about this game, having preordered on Amazon for $20 ages ago when the Vita came out. It's about time I play my Vita again. Seems the reviews are all over the place, but this was my most hyped Vita game and one of the reasons why I bought one. I'm excited!

Going through the reviews, and ran into this bit in the Joystiq one.

Since you spend so much time just traveling from thing to thing in games, especially open-world ones, I'm surprised more attention isn't paid to making that fun. By putting so much joy in the navigation of the world, Gravity Rush shares space in my mind with standouts like Batman: Arkham City and Jet Set Radio.

Jet Set Radio is among my favorite games period. And while I haven't gotten around to playing all of Arkham City, the traversal mechanics seemed great in the demo (not to mention I loved the first game).

Hype just reached dangerous high levels now.

$20? Damn.

Currently still my game of the year.

Can't agree with the combat complaints at all. Lock on would totally ruin the point.

Game took me 14 hours to complete on my first go, and I'm a fast gamer generally.

What do you mean? It has one 6.5, one 7.5, and the rest were 8 or higher. And even those two kind-of-low ones were largely positive.

Isn't there a collecting component? Joystiq mentioned something about it.

Sad that it's not getting the review scores it deserves, but like Sin & Punishment 2 it'll be remembered by actual gamers as an all-time classic despite being unfairly criticized by mongoloid reviewers.

The best part is that they fail to recognize their own hypocrisy, anyone lowballs the score they expected and they are up in arms with this reason and that reason for why the review is bullshit. Why don't the super high scores get the same scrutiny? Nobody doubts the 9s or the 9.5s. Seems pretty damned obvious that they are invested in the game being good and hate to see anyone say otherwise.

But it's being very well-received :|

and he's always an extraordinarily negative poster.

As I said in the other thread... I really can't wait for it. I had trouble with the combat when I played the demo a few months ago, but it seemed like something you needed to warm up to, and I only played for about five minutes, maybe a little more. I've had a Vita since a week after launch, but this will only be my second Vita game for it (I loaded up on PSP games since I didn't have one for the last half of the PSP's life). I'm really looking forward to it

I don't know why some people care so much. Find a a few reviewers who agree with you most of the time and you're golden.

It may have already been done, but I hope there's a patch out for this that enables network features. If Uncharted did it, I don't see a reason why this can't.

You collect gems to level up your abilities. That's about it.

Trying to collect every gem seen eventually became a little mini-game in itself, much like the Crackdown orb hunting but a lot more fun for me without the limitations of gravity.

I remember Takao was supposed to be doing it but...well we saw what happened there.
He's still doing it isn't he, someone in some other topic said he would be unbanned a few days beforehand.
Can't say I know who he is though, what did he do to get banned?

I believe it's next week. I've been playing the Japanese one for a while now. It'll be nice to know what the hell is being said :lol

Awesome. Thanks :)

I dl'ed the JP demo, but decided I didn't want to go through the hassle of rearranging my bubbles whenever I wanted to play it. :/

Loved what I did play, though. This and MGS on the same day. :D

BTW who's doing the OT?

Takao will be doing the OT when he comes back a few days before the game's release (I'm helping him on visual assets). Can't say exactly why he was banned in the first place either ! He comes back on june 9th and will post the thread right away.

just being overall annoying in the vita threads

Oh, ok, that's more or less what he told me too. :D

Already paid for, it just needs to fall through my letter box. I never bothered to download the Japanese demo so I'm super hyped up for this.
