Great PSP D-pad mod for games like SFA3.

Interesting... wonder if I can find a way to do this without a hot glue gun. I don't have one and tracking one down in China would be an... interesting experience. I'd really rather just have the topper that comes with SFA3^^.

I just got my white PSP this week. I'm having NO problem at all pulling off any moves in SF.

The PSP d-pad is honestly the 2nd best D-pad this current gen. Its still not close but its next to the Micro d-pad with 360 being the worst. For somthing so easy to do, I don't understand why these companies are giving the d-pad the shaft.

I'm so tempted to try this...I'm having all sorts of problems pulling off a simple uppercut motion consistantly on the pad and the analog stick.

but will it work for contra?

oh it does. ok then, gotta try this! :)

Well in my case, it would be a minimal risk, as I have a 'junk' PSP that I can pull parts from (the input cable for the d-pad is borked, and the power switch is broken but everything else in it works fine). I just have to put together all the necessary parts. I'm wondering where I'd come up with the glue gun, primarily.

I didn't even use a hot glue gun. Actually I did but it kept making it to thick that the pad wouldn't even move, so I just took it off and tried it without it and so far it's worked great.

Hrms. May try to do this over the weekend. If I do, I'll post impressions as to how difficult it is / how well it works out.

Cheers.

I just did it, minus the hot glue and using a piece of clear plastic the same shape as the back of the d-pad plastic piece itself (rather than the NES-shaped d-pad 'cross' suggested on the page). The whole thing took about 5 minutes. The difference was immediate and massive. Anyone who has had their PSP for more than 90 days has nothing to lose by doing this (your warranty has already expired) and everything to gain. Very, very cool. Hopefully Sony will see this and fix it themselves in the next hardware revision. :D

Whee! This is EXACTLY the solution we stumbled across here ourselves-- cut a piece of plastic in the exact shape to fit it to the back of the d-pad.

And it's ludicrous how much of a difference such a simple mod makes. WTF Sony, your pad was merely lacking a few mm of plastic to turn the pad from shit to really good?
