GripShift (PS3) Revealed

Finally!

Looks damn impressive for 3 months work.

While there's no track editor, Sidhe Interactive has mentioned they plan to support this with downloadable content. And, hey, maybe they'll port tracks we make with the PSP track editor if we ask them nicely?

Sony needs to get those 'Playstation Cards' out, goddamn. :/

No credit card?

Paying online on the store doesnt seem too bad. People here say that you get to pay the exact amount that it costs, unlike Wii/X360

lookin foward to this. the game made a good impression on me for the psp, and definitely showed potential in a sequel or something like this. hopefully this will be what i wanted it to be. :)

Yes, as long as the amount is over $5. Otherwise you have to put a minimum $5 in your PS Store Wallet.

Is this still from Sidhe Interactive? Mario, gime us something to look forward to PS3 please :D
I like Gripshift but just sequel wont do, we need some new elements in the game :D Maybe new weapons, It would be cool to have something like gravity change for the opponents for example make the car super heavy so they cant go through the loop-way and such. And longer track please.

Can one of the Sidhe dudes confirm if there will be online rankings? Mario?

There will be online rankings for the Challenge Mode. In fact, there is a seperate leaderboard for each of the three goals on each of the levels.

Also to clarify, there are 150 new and remixed levels in total, with 25 of those being race tracks.

Very clean,

Will certainly buy for only $10

Did you guys update the musics as well?

Most of the music from the original is still in there, but there is now a wider selection of music including a number of new artists (almost 40 tracks in all). You also have the ability to only enable the tracks you want to hear in the playlist option.

The screens look great so far, and $9.99 is a good price for this game.

I don't know how many people here have played the PSP version, but it's a fun little game that blends racing, platforming, and puzzle solving. I've seen it described as "Super Monkey Ball on wheels", which is probably a good way of summing it up. I suggest reading this thread if you're not familiar with the PSP game and would like more information.

Cool! PS3 Lemmings has online rankings, and that helped give the game an added layer of replayability. Are you familiar with the way that game does it? I think Lemmings handles the online rankings pretty well, where you can see the top 5 players worldwide (and how you compare), as well as how you stack up to buddies on your personal buddy list. The only thing I would have added to that is the ability to view a larger portion of the scoreboad rather than just the top 5, maybe even seeing all of the rankings by flipping through the list a page at a time.

I'm glad to hear that there are separate lists for each of the goals, too.

Liked teh first one, definitive purchase.....If Sony just released the darned Cards...I want to buy Lemmings..Sudoku...some PSOne games...Blast Factor..too.

Yet..because for whatever reason, Puerto Rico is not in their list I can't put my actual address in the credit card..heck, I had to put that I live in Ohio..just to create an account at the Network...

I emailed them, on day one..regarding that matter...received a reply 4 days later, just saying that they were going to look into it..

At least when this happened with the 360 too, MS quickly updated everything and added PR and other countries to the list during the launch week...but come on Sony, a month..and still nothing?? :(

Mario, do something!! :(

This was very good on the PSP. Microsoft really blew it when they were unresponsive for so long on the application to make this for XBLA. MS, you guys need to get it together, hire more people if needed.

I'll pick this up once I have a TV that can actually play this on high-def on my PS3. :(

i'm impressed -- didn't expect such a big improvement over the psp version. which is a great game, incidentally.

150 levels
25 tracks
Online leaderboards
720p visuals
The awesome gameplay from the PSP version
and 4 player online

for only $10?

Mario, take my money now. Just take it.

I think GripShift allows you to view the top 1,000 (its stores at least that many anyway), although there is no buddy list functionality from memory.

Times are also stored down to a 1000th of a second, calculated by extrapolating at what point during a frame you would have crossed the finish line, so there is usually always an opportunity to improve on a posted time.

Like Lemmings, the GripShift demo will also give you the ability to get on the full version high score tables.

I hope 3rd parties are following Sony's lead with actually putting effort into their downloadable games. Any time someone says "Oh, smaller companies can't afford to do anything risky or original on the PS3, I'm like "WTF DOWNLOADS!".

Nice.

Mario, any new visual themes or is it the same four from the PSP version?

How big is the download?

Any chance of a track editor as a separate download somewhere down the road?

Or Maybe a track editor for the pc that you can use to upload your tracks to the PS3. :?

Gripshift is one of those hidden gems of gaming. It was a shame people didn't jump all over that game for trying something new and fresh. The PS3 version looks amazing and I can't wait to relive that experience with what looks to be a fantastic upgrade!

Still the 4 original general themes (Desert, Ice, Jungle, and Horror), but there are new skyboxes and lighting variants for each.

There should be a bunch of new media released early next week, so you'll get to see a wider sample of the new graphics in the next few days.

How big is the download?

Under 300MB for the full version. Demo is around 120MB from memory.

Yes, that is planned.

That's all I need to hear! Hope the game does well enough that the track editor stays in the plans.

Do you guys find out directly how many people buy your game via the online store or does that information have to get passed to you by Sony?

so with the 4 player multiplayer I cannot call up 3 other buddies on my list? if true, bummer.
10 dollars seems like a steal regardless, it will be mine. :)

We find out indirectly, but should be able to get accurate numbers fairly regularly.

That is currently the case. We hope to resolve that later with a free patch, assuming Sony allows us to do that.

You need credit cards for this shit? Hmm, I've given up on them long ago. I hope that they come out with cards a la MS points

Mario,

1. voice chat in multi player games?
2. can we listen to our own music off the ps3 hdd in game instead of game music?
3. please make a R-TYPE style side scrolling shooter next for PSN....these new consoles with the hidef screens are just shouting out for killer side scrollers

yeah, because it's too hard to see when you pay 800 points that it is actually $10.

I hope so too. That would top priority imo if Sony allows you to do so. :)

They were supposed to come around launch and not exactly at launch. I suppose now is still around launch but I didnt expect anything this late. Theres already input in the account management for Playstation Card Codes. The problem is that there are no playstation cards out yet so you can't fill it in with anything. :/

Do you have a debit card? Because I don't have any credit cards, and debit has always worked for XBL Marketplace and PS Store for me.
