So the grass is no longer a killer?
Looks like it.

Amazon sent me an email as they changed the release date to November 1. Emails says because of the publisher, but who knows.

Well up until now I'm pretty sure most people assumed that the bumpers and stuff coming loose was going to be reserved for race cars, now that we see it on production cars I don't think we can say anything about what the final damage will be like until the final version is shown. Since chances are anything we assume right now is probably going to be wrong.

It wasn't really an assumption though as Kaz said that race cars would receive more damage than production cars. Although it's worth noting that despite all the beating that the FT-86 took, the hood never came up. And that's one thing that does come up on the Impreza. And the engine is modeled under that hood. Which is what he meant about race cars receiving more modeling than production cars.

Damage on normal cars, I knew it!
Might be limited to prototypes though...

Or what is always being referred to as the "road car damage" might actually involve loose bodyparts after all. And the "race car damage" will add the deformation.

I spent 12 hours without GAF, then i come back and see 130 new posts on the GT5 thread.

"good, that means we got some news"

TREE TALK!

:(

At least FT86 damaged saved the day.

Man that guy who posted earlier in the thread hit the nail on the head and it never really struck me until now. I hate all of those idiots who get to play GT5 who can't drive for shit or don't even care about the game but still get to play it and post videos of their shitty fucking driving.

So pretty much everyone that's got to play GT5 up to this point.

i just think people who whine about trees are probably not interested in the game in the first place. When you disregard all the new features in this game for the sake of friggin trees then it simply raises a red flag. Just whining for the sake of whining.

Like one poster said, Thank Goodness Polyphony had their priorities where it mattered. Damage and night racing instead of trees

Basically yes. PD should release some videos or something that shows of the new driving physics, awesome turns, overtaking etc that we should be getting in these gameplay videos but because people can't fucking drive we don't know shit and have to make assumptions. God only knows what we'd get if these assholes were driving on Pro Physics! :|

You know, even though it really sucks that PD takes forever, watching that video of the driver animating makes you realize WHY they take forever. There is no detail that goes unnoticed by those developers. In some respects, this is a bit of a curse, but when you finally do get the project in your hands, you know it is a quality project.

Except for GT4, what a letdown :)

This vid does a good job of showing off the physics

A lap around the Nurburgring by one of the best GT players and the physics are even giving him trouble.

Bah. GT4 is better then 3 in every way. It's only a let down cause GT3 was the most amazing thing ever.

I really wanted online play. But it was still really impressive to have so many cars and such. It just felt kind of like a vanity project. They were not very ambitious in terms of pushing the game offerings forward. But it is good to see they have entirely rewritten their driving model for GT5.

you haven't seen the trees yet, have you?

I think what annoys me about the damage and impact physics is that it's so obvious the cars aren't hitting the environment, they are hitting an invisible wall about an inch or two away from the wall

Took way too long for that bumper to come off. He wrecked plenty of times before it came loose. But better to have it than to not I suppose. :)

It seems like that's one of those things that they're tinkering with. I remember some complaining that parts on the Impreza would come loose too easily.

Didn't they have a poll asking how severe the damage should be? Maybe they changed it to meet the results from that.

Some GT fan site might've done that but Polyphony didn't. Kaz has said that the damage level will be extensive but people shouldn't expect to see the cars completely totaled.

On the subject of cars, Der_Meister just mentioned on GTplanet that Polyphony was at McLaren headquarters today photographing and getting data for the MP4-12C and F1-GTR.

Waiting patiently here but goodness me GOW III and FFXIII have released now, surely within the next month GT5 should get the spotlight. If it is indeed releasing at the end of this year we will get some information about mentioned features such as the head tracking........will be great to see how that works. We pretty much know all that needs to be known about the game, seeing a lot of it in motion would be great though.

Yeah, it doesn't necessarily mean that they'll be in GT5. But it's certainly a possibility since they're still modeling and adding new cars. Which is probably why Kaz doesn't want to give a solid number when it comes to the car count.

Every time I see a video of someone showing off the cosmetic damage, I always think its inclusion is a waste of effort. I mean, at first it seemed like the holy grail for GT, but when you see someone drive like so much of a moron that the whole game would be unplayable, for the payoff of the paintwork being a little scratched or a bumper hanging a little bit off, you have to wonder why PD would even bother.

For a more arcadey racer that relies on the spectacle of big crashes, it's damn essential, but for a sim that has you completely out of the race if you have so much as a bad spin, it makes next to no difference. Basically, if you ever have a crash that would noticeably damage your car in this, you'd have already thrown the event away, so I don't see the value in continuing to drive around with a damaged vehicle.

While great for us consumers I have to admit that I'm surprised GT5 is going to have so much content. With the shit that is DLC this generation it's shocking Sony are allowing so much content to be in GT5 instead of selling it as £10 car packs 2 months after release.

It will probably still happen but seriously with the content promised in the retail release the need for DLC seems silly.

There are always new cars, and there are a lot of tracks.

I was thinking about DLC the other day. I mean it would be so easy for Kaz to go into the office tomorrow and say "no, we're not going to put all 1000 cars in the game; let's put in 500, and then let's release the other 500 as packs on PSN every month." In this day and age, it's pretty admirable they've chosen not to do that.

Sadly, the damage in itself is very crappy.

I would expect at least their damage to reach the quality of, let's way, last gen's TOCA 2 and TOCA 3. Right now they aren't even near what Codemasters could do like 10 years ago.

oh well, I fear they just put some damage in there just so people can stop saying there's isn't any. It really looks like an afterthought right now. Not even Forza 3 good.

.

We probably have the iTunes style GTHD to thank for that. There was a very negative reaction to it and now they seem to be making a point to pack everything they possibly can into GT5. Kaz has made a point in a recent interview that everything they want in the game will be there and that they aren't going to hold anything back to try to sell to us at a later date.

I don't think the developer can choose if the game does or does not get DLC, in this case it seems to be one where Sony gave PD the go ahead to make the game as meaty as possible. If I am wrong and Yamauchi can choose then it's just a case where he takes pride in the games he develops.

Once GT 1 sold 10 million Yamauchi money must have stopped being an issue for him, he must be swimming in his pool full of it as we speak. So as I said his motivation for still making games would be more for enjoyment than anything else.

Wish I was like that but sadly that is not the case, 4 more years to go and I shall be charging £500 for teeth whitening. :D

Uggh...looks ridiculous. Rather have scratches on this car than this sort of "damage".

SolidSnakex said:
It's because they haven't implemented deformation damage into the builds we've seen yet. Kaz said that the team that's doing the damage is making a deformation system that's based on the speed and angle that you hit a car or object rather than a predetermined model.

If they had to choose one or the other they should go with deformation with no parts falling off. Like Project Gotham.

Seeing pieces hang off while keeping their perfect shape is way too surreal.

I'm not buying GT5. This thread convinced me that trees need Crysis-approval or it's a no buy. Oh and they need to confirm that staring at in-game sun for more than a minute makes you go blind. Also, if they don't show ambulance show up and perform CPR on the driver when you crash the car, I'm selling my PS3.

Oh God, I wanna to drive that.

I just want an AI that doesn't plow through me because I'm in their predetermined racing line, and maybe better sounding sounds. Fuck trees, damage, and 360 degree rendered cockpits.

And you better be able to drive off cliffs this time. Grand Canyon track with barriers? lol

Fuck yeah! Oh and there should be an in-game Insurance. If you crash, your insurance would rack up and collection agency would come knocking at your door.

It ain't about driving anymore. It's about LIVING THE LIFE, BITCHES! I NEED MY SIMS IN THIS SO-CALLED SIMULATOR! I've had more fun with The Sims than that piece of shit Prologue! I mean I own a PSEye. My face better be plastered in the fucking game in driver's license like Burnout Paradise! I don't care if they are ripping them off... they've been ripping off Forze, Rock N' Roll Racing, Mario Kart and Halo.. everyone knows that!

Oh and whenever you unlock a car, you better fucking pay brokerage fee and license plate renewal every year! WTF GUERRILLA? FIX DIZ SHIET!! PD JUST SHOT THEMSELVES IN FOOT!

I have no doubt that the game will have DLC and Kaz has never denied that the game will eventually get DLC. All he's said is that when it ships it'll be the game that they wanted to ship. Nothing is going to be cut to make a date and later sold to the player. Which will be nice because it will be like getting a game from previous gens when developers had to pack everything they had into the initial release because DLC wasn't an option.

I would gladly pay for a GT classic map pack and a classic race car pack.

Reading the past few pages, I'm sure glad I don't have a problem with how the trees look. Am I the only one who thinks they've looked fine in motion in pretty much every GT5 video out there? Maybe I just haven't been paying enough attention to them (:lol)
