GT5 News - Nurburgring update (pre-E3 edition)

Ok, where's my Gran Turismo 5 demo in 2010? I don't give a fuck about Prologue anymore, give me Tokyo Route 246 with my Subaru Impreza.

FM3 does it on the car you are driving at least. I kind of think its a waste.

Dirt 2 and NFS Shift have that too ;)

I think it is a pretty cool effect, I would take that over evolving trees and skid marks :P

It'll probably come a few weeks before the game is released. And given that we don't have a date for the release, there's no telling when that demo will come.

You can find the same view in Prologue in replay mode, gameplay and replay roof cameras are very different, second one is more cinematic...

I rarely looked at the replays from any other angle than bumper cam for time trial purposes but lately I've been soaking in replays on the TT from the default roadside cameras and it's so godamn beautiful. I think the body roll and suspension behaviour looks more realistic than other recently released sims and even highly held ones like LFS.

I like to purposefully get my car off balance and rock it violently and to watch the replays. Nothing looks broken or out of the ordinary when it comes to how the body sways and suspension behaves. Still think the tire model is off but lets leave that discussion for when the game is actually out.

Haven't checked out the other views yet...

Its one of those things that always make you say "holy shit" though. Consistently too. GT5's reflections are near perfect it just needs this one thing for perfection.

I hope the will re-implement replay features like being able to let the camera focus on multiple cars instead of only one car. It was nice to see that the camera was on top of the action when it mattered the most. Newer games haven't even come close at matching this level of quality in replays.

Do we have any idea on SuperGT damage specs? I guess we don't know for sure about anything now that damage other than some paint scrapes has appeared on normal cars.

E3 hype!

It should be whatever the damage model ends up being for NASCAR and WRC cars.

And Coiler has mentioned that there are a bunch of other videos coming also.

There was a Race Driver game on PS2 with it too.

edit: who needs tree physics when you have dandelion physics! :lol

well... i don't know about the other games you guys mentioned here. PGR4 did it but it's just a trick to make you believe you are seeing the "reflection" of other cars. it's actually the image of the previous frame rotated and distorted and mapped onto the surface of the car. it's not real reflection.

It looks like the AI has received a nice upgrade. The person playing is actually a good driver and he isn't able to make it to make it out of 7th position (which is where he started). Also around 4:10 you can see him stab the brakes to make a turn and the AI driver swerves around him to overtake instead of just ramming him. The AI drivers seem to make a lot of mistakes too as you can regularly see dirt fly off because they run off the track.

The Nurburgring also seems to be much bumpier than it was in GT4.

Not exactly sure how that's not a 'real' reflection since other techniques are essentially the same just using a different image as the reflection. It's a really good technique for hood cam, cockpit view, and anything that has the scene to be reflected contained entirely in the FOV. It results in basically perfect reflections with minimal cost.

I really hope GT5 employs the same trick because it works great in the cases where it's applicable.

Heaven called, they want it back.

I've said it before, but I feel the (strange) need to reiterate; it's incredibly annoying that nothing new has been revealed in a while, and PD has the worst PR machine in the whole Sony stable. They simply fail at rolling out new info to appease fans and take down worries of different kinds; one could argue that there's no need just because the series is so humongous, but still... Hopefully around E3 time (preferrably much earlier) some new SOLID info will be out.

(yet I already know I'll be suckered back to this thread again and again, and leave even more worried :( )

Why blame Polyphony for something that's Sony's doing?

They're just holding back for E3, hell if this is as good as I think it's going to be it'll probably end up stealing the show from the motion control madness :lol

Mother fucking huge card to play at a conference, regardless of how much is known/not known, it's true megaton face melting material to do a massive GT blowout on a 23612936" Bravia at a huge games show.

The AI did get a nice upgrade. I'm leaning towards getting the game now. :D

I got my tax refund debit card today, once the actual money is loaded onto it, I'm getting the Fanatec 911 Turbo S Pure wheel. I'll buy the shifter, Clubsport pedals, and the PS3 dongle later as I'm saving up for a racing seat to put it all in. :D

The sheer quality and quantity in terms of content and polish of this game almost makes it a robbery for it to only cost what a normal game would. Although with a steering wheel and other accesories it goes up but still.

You're probably right, I was thinking they added the cars into a full environment map but I only remember seeing it in hood view.

Starfox adventures did terrible things with that technique by mapping it to background water instead of objects. Works well enough when it's done right.

This already happened in prologue as I once proved >.<

I know what Kaz said about not following other racing games, but I think he's lying, that Forza forced Polyphony to step their game up... and it looks like they did.

Competition is a beautiful thing. :D

Oh look, here is a race course with fresh dandelions. The dandelions grew this morning so you can blow them in the wind! Don't mind the other hundred race events that took place at this course. They grew just for your race! :lol

Nifty but not necessary. ;)

Wow is all I can say!

I'm a bit upset though as I just came to the realization that the countless hours of mastering Nurburgring in GT4 won't really carry over into GT5. I will basically have to relearn the tracks due to the new physics. Some of my trusted driving lines will have to be adjusted slightly and I will have to adjust speed for various corners obviously. I basically knew this from the TT but I think I was in denial up until now. But that is the love of the series, countless hours attempting to drive the perfect lap(s) with the perfect time(s).

GT5 will also be much harder in Pro mode, as you mentioned the AI has really improved even though they do make slight errors. I hope we get to see more smart moves by the AI in the coming future. More than ever proper car tuning will be crucial in the most advanced events.

Also is it me or does the drafting seem to have been toned down a bit? I need to view the video a few more times to take it all in.

Seeing as how I'm gonna be in Japan in April, I'm hoping there's some place I can go to play this early. I know there's a brand new Sony Style store in Nagoya, so I wonder if it'll be showcasing a bunch of 3D games.

Can anyone .gif around the 6:55-7:00 mark in the Nurburgring video SS posted! There is some nice suspension work happening in the AI car out in front.

well, i was simply stating the fact: it is not "real" because it is not real. you only see it at a particular angle with over the hood/roof camera views because that's the only angle where the reversed frame-buffer image looks somewhat like the reflection. you won't see car reflections when you are using any other camera angles because the trick dose not work anymore.

anyways, it's not like i'm against this technology. if it enhances the racing experience then go for it. i'm only curious because some folks mentioned they saw car reflections in the GT5 vid. i'm not sure i saw it. and if it's in gt5, i wonder how PD implemented it.

Why is the game being promoted so strangely? It's like these videos leak from GT players. Can't polyphony give some nice direct feed to 1up or something...

And trees were to... nah :lol

But yeah an incredible touch to detail is always something PD will have. That's where they'll remain a step above the rest unless someone spends the time to get to such a level.

There's a reason you can't pump a GT game out every year or two, finally we're about to have more proof of why.

In due time. Pretty sure we're gonna get a blowout at E3, and a release date.

Short answer: It's GT.
Long answer: I have none.

Why would you want 1up or any of the other crappy sites to give you GT video's? Most of them have crappy video players, the best place to view GT video's is from GT's official site. Though if the appeared a day or two earlier on Gamersyde I would be pleased.
