GT5 News - Nurburgring update (pre-E3 edition)

What looks so remarkable in that video? Asking just out of curiosity, since I don't see anything new that we haven't seen 3296872089672867 times before.

Nothing looks remarkable, but some of the footage definitely looks more refined...at least I think so.

one part of that video shows that it's the final lap and he's still at 12/12 place... dose he suck at the game???? *runs...

I was just going to comment on the performance of a 5 time DTM champion, but the GT5 simulation probably pales in comparison to the to the custom simulator he uses at Mercedes/AMG.

Some pretty impressive meltdowns around here :o

I have a feeling the backlash for this game is gonna be reaaaally bad.

It happens with every GT game. Most of the people who bitch and complain don't really seem to bother to play them though. Wait for the "I saw this video and the "_____" just sucked!"

The official GT5 thread will be great for the ignore list though.

GT5 is probably the game with the most expectation to deliver on. I'm afraid that it might not match up to some peoples expectations.

Since I actually feel pinpointed by the "meltdown" posts :lol , I feel the need to explain myself; I have Gran Turismo 3 and 4 (only played the second game a little bit), and played them both for God knows how long. I love the series, I love the Pokémon-styled "gotta-catch-'em-all" game structure (since it fulfills my OCD needs), I love the classy presentation, I love the driving model etc. etc. etc.

It's just that the handling of the marketing aspect completely fucking blows (time to get a fucking community manager), and I also dislike the fact that Kaz seems to be completely out of touch and goes driving and using the company money to do stupid shit instead of actually finishing up the game.

By the look of some of the posts in here, any critique of the development of the game is deemed as trolling, which is untrue in many cases. It's just that they've janked us around long enough; it's time to spill the beans.

I don't think anybody is pointing you out, and if they are fuck em.

But why do you have to worry about the marketing? Will how its marketed change the game at all for you? And Kaz is plenty rich, I doubt he uses PD/Sony funds to jet set and race in events. I'm sure some of them are covered by PD/Sony when GT5 is on show but you are reaching a bit. And 1 man doesn't make or break the game, there are over 150 people at PD I think, I'm pretty sure when Kaz takes off for a couple of days that the team keeps working away.

The endless story of GT5.
Prologue was alright but the last demo was terrible in graphics anybody know why they did this??

About expectations...

If you enjoyed prologue to some degree (with all its faults), rest assured GT5 will deliver, since it will most likely it improve in every aspect compared to prologue.
It wont be perfect (no game is), it just comes down if you have fun with it.

That's how I see it anyways...

It was a 200mb time trial... It wasn't meant to show off graphics, but the new physics, which were awesome.

Don't worry. I'm with you. I refused to be Kaz's bitch anymore... at least until he shows me something real good....

I guess I phrased the marketing thing wrong; what I meant with marketing was simply how they roll out the info about the game (e.g. nothing concrete about the game's feature set is known). I couldn't care less about the actual marketing (e.g. commercials, ads etc.) since I don't give a shit about sales numbers. :)

You know, how it's marketed won't affect the game, but it could have an impact for PS3 gamers. If GT5 is marketed well and sells PS3's as well as software units, it sends the message to third parties that exclusive PS3 games can sell well, can help sell hardware, and that Sony has got its marketing skills back.

A well marketed GT5 would give Sony more leverage in trying to secure third party exclusive games, or DLC, associating games with PlayStation again, etc, rather than the 360. I think all PS3 gamers should be interested in how GT5 is marketed. That's how I see it anyway.

Actually I think their marketting has been clever. They don't need to market to those who will already buy the game (GT5 Prologue marketting was excellent) - they need to market to car enthusiasts. If these people get interested in it, not only will they buy GT5 - they'll buy a PS3 to go with it.

What? :lol

Marketing won't affect the game, but it will send the message that exclusive PS3 games sell well? And the previous exclusives failed to sell? :lol And no one knows that GT5 is one of the biggest IPs in the industry? :lol

Sony needs back its marketing skills? :lol Do you watch Championship League, for example? Sony marketing everywhere. Kevin Butler?

GT5 securing 3rd party exclusives, you say? IT ONLY DOES EVERYTHING® indeed. :lol

First give a solid release date, then and only then release the details.?

You do know there's a difference between selling, and selling extremely well, right? Look at Gears of War. Both games are pretty average games that should hover around 2.5 million, but they've both blown past 5 million each, thanks to a great marketing campaign. Why do you think most third party games are promoted for the 360 over the PS3? Because publishers are more comfortable with MS's effective advertising.

Sure, It Only Does Everything are fun adverts, but are they effective? Do they help sell the PS3 and its games? NPD results seem to suggest not, as the 360 has beaten the PS3 every month this year. Have PS3 exclusive games failed to sell? No. Have they failed when compared to 360 exclusive games? Abso-fucking-lutely.

And as a matter of fact I do watch the Champions League, and have you seen the PS3 idents? A tiny PS3 logo crammed in the bottom of the screen that no fucker can see; compared to MasterCard, Ford, Heineken etc, who have their logos planted firmly in the centre of the screen that every fucker can see, Sony's marketing is ineffective.

What the hell are you talking about? They have billboards everywhere. Especially those behind the net (which I assume cost more). Champions League looks like "PlayStation League" at times :lol

As for GT5... yeah, that franchise kinda turned into a marketing device for car manufacturers.

Why was it terrible ?

The only reason you could give that actually makes a tiny bit of sense is the lack of proper 3D trees. However, that's a sacrifice they had to make to make the actual track and cars as detailed as possible.

And to keep the frame rate at 60fps.
In 1080p.
With debris flying everywhere.
At night.
In the rain.
With 16 cars on track.

If you say the track was bland. That's just how it is. It's Indianapolis.

I thought it looked great, but whenever I saw screenshots posted, yeah they looked terrible. That track didn't translate very well to screens.

But hey, 200mb. I'm sure it doesn't represent the final game at all.

marketing lolz.. marketing is for people who are "outside" the industry, not for us.

i just want the game penetrating my ps3's tray

Ahah, sorry about that. I'm not even a Roma supporter. I used to like Juventus from back in the Michel Platini days. Don't really follow soccer nowadays, unless it's World Cup and Italy does good.

Oh yeah guys here is another video showing a real driver playing the game, and no new information about the game. OHHH FUCK YEAH INSTA BUY, REVOLUTION OF THE RACING GENRE.

Jesus the marketing for this game fucking blows chunks.

It's stuff like this that actually ends up in the mainstream media. Not a new screenshot, trailer or some random bits of info.

What the... :lol

1st, how the hell, I mean, HOW THE HELL, do you now how much Gears would sell without marketing? :lol

Games are promoted with 360 logo because Microsoft pays for the part (or the entire) marketing campaign. Do you really think someone would chose to ignore half of the market because of "Microsoft's effective marketing"? What does Microsoft's marketing have to do with a random 3rd party game marketing campaign?

How exactly are you judging effectiveness of a marketing campaign (in this case it only does everything)? Judging by NPD? Are you aware of the fact that the PS3 sells in $299 and $399 flavors, while 360 is running with $199 and $299. With the $199 SKU accounting for around 50% of the sales. So, with a price difference like this one, how exactly are you comparing them? Are you aware of the fact that marketing is here just to PUSH a product, not to make someone COMPLETELY unintrested in it to to buy it. If somebody wants to play Halo with his/her friends, he/she isn't gong to buy a PS3. Can you understand that marketing isn't the ONLY factor that influences sales. I still remember your meltdowns in a thread where you were screaming that Sony's GT5 Fall console push is going to get slaughtered by Microsoft and it's Natal marketing blitz. :lol

What exclusives are you comparing? Gears of War and Halo on the MS side, I presume? To exactly what are you comparing them on the Sony side? Uncharted? Do you know Does anyone know how much Uncharted 2 even sold? God of War 3? Besides, Halo doesn't really have a sales-quantity contender from Sony... until Gran Turismo 5 arrives. Which is sure to outsell it in Europe and Japan and probably world wide combined.

Your CL paragraph is pure insanity. :lol
PS3 sign isn't visible? Are you blind? :lol
It's like EVERYWHERE. Sony Bravia is EVERYWHERE. Championship League is always like HEINEKEN FORD MASTER CARD SPONSORED BY SONY MAKE.BELIEVE /end
If that's not visible, then, really, I don't know what the hell is. :lol

Sony's marketing is ineffective.:lol OMG.:lol

I thought it looked bad despite the bland track, but I'm sure the final version of the game will look much better.

I'm guessing this is only exclusive to EU Mercedes Benz Dealerships? ;_;

My family owns a fleet of Mercedes vehicles(myself included), so I'm at the dealership every now and then buying parts.

I figured most of the customers wont bother with it(given their age demographic :P) so I might as well take the initative and show them how its done
hopefully without embrassing myself in the process
:lol

Can you please show me the math you used to figure out that GoW is only worth 2.5 million sales?
