BeeDog said:Since I actually feel pinpointed by the "meltdown" posts :lol , I feel the need to explain myself; I have Gran Turismo 3 and 4 (only played the second game a little bit), and played them both for God knows how long. I love the series, I love the Pokémon-styled "gotta-catch-'em-all" game structure (since it fulfills my OCD needs), I love the classy presentation, I love the driving model etc. etc. etc.
It's just that the handling of the marketing aspect completely fucking blows (time to get a fucking community manager), and I also dislike the fact that Kaz seems to be completely out of touch and goes driving and using the company money to do stupid shit instead of actually finishing up the game.
By the look of some of the posts in here, any critique of the development of the game is deemed as trolling, which is untrue in many cases. It's just that they've janked us around long enough; it's time to spill the beans.

Firewire said:I don't think anybody is pointing you out, and if they are fuck em.
But why do you have to worry about the marketing? Will how its marketed change the game at all for you? And Kaz is plenty rich, I doubt he uses PD/Sony funds to jet set and race in events. I'm sure some of them are covered by PD/Sony when GT5 is on show but you are reaching a bit. And 1 man doesn't make or break the game, there are over 150 people at PD I think, I'm pretty sure when Kaz takes off for a couple of days that the team keeps working away.
Actually I think their marketting has been clever. They don't need to market to those who will already buy the game (GT5 Prologue marketting was excellent) - they need to market to car enthusiasts. If these people get interested in it, not only will they buy GT5 - they'll buy a PS3 to go with it.BeeDog said:Since I actually feel pinpointed by the "meltdown" posts :lol , I feel the need to explain myself; I have Gran Turismo 3 and 4 (only played the second game a little bit), and played them both for God knows how long. offshore said:You know, how it's marketed won't affect the game, but it could have an impact for PS3 gamers. If GT5 is marketed well and sells PS3's as well as software units, it sends the message to third parties that exclusive PS3 games can sell well, can help sell hardware, and that Sony has got its marketing skills back.
A well marketed GT5 would give Sony more leverage in trying to secure third party exclusive games, or DLC, associating games with PlayStation again, etc, rather than the 360. I think all PS3 gamers should be interested in how GT5 is marketed. That's how I see it anyway.
BeeDog said:I guess I phrased the marketing thing wrong; what I meant with marketing was simply how they roll out the info about the game (e.g. nothing concrete about the game's feature set is known).
Lagspike_exe said:Marketing won't affect the game, but it will send the message that exclusive PS3 games sell well? And the previous exclusives failed to sell? :lol
offshore said:You do know there's a difference between selling, and selling extremely well, right? Look at Gears of War. Both games are pretty average games that should hover around 2.5 million, but they've both blown past 5 million each, thanks to a great marketing campaign. Why do you think most third party games are promoted for the 360 over the PS3? Because publishers are more comfortable with MS's effective advertising.
Sure, It Only Does Everything are fun adverts, but are they effective? Do they help sell the PS3 and its games? NPD results seem to suggest not, as the 360 has beaten the PS3 every month this year. Have PS3 exclusive games failed to sell? No. Have they failed when compared to 360 exclusive games? Abso-fucking-lutely.
And as a matter of fact I do watch the Champions League, and have you seen the PS3 idents? A tiny PS3 logo crammed in the bottom of the screen that no fucker can see; compared to MasterCard, Ford, Heineken etc, who have their logos planted firmly in the centre of the screen that every fucker can see, Sony's marketing is ineffective.

It's stuff like this that actually ends up in the mainstream media. Not a new screenshot, trailer or some random bits of info.Rapping Granny said:Oh yeah guys here is another video showing a real driver playing the game, and no new information about the game. Jesus the marketing for this game fucking blows chunks.

The only reason you could give that actually makes a tiny bit of sense is the lack of proper 3D trees. However, that's a sacrifice they had to make to make the actual track and cars as detailed as possible.
And to keep the frame rate at 60fps.
In 1080p.
With debris flying everywhere.
At night.
In the rain.
With 16 cars on track.
If you say the track was bland. That's just how it is. It's Indianapolis.

I thought it looked bad despite the bland track, but I'm sure the final version of the game will look much better.
