GTA VI delayed to November 19 2026

There's a real story here if journalists can dig far enough.

It was initially meant to be released this holiday.
Then, in May, they say they need another 12 months.
But as far back as September, Tom Henderson was saying that he had heard "rumblings" this game was nowhere near ready to ship in Spring 2026.
And now, a few months after that announcement, Take Two come out asking for another year.

My question is this:

What happened in May to lead them to conclude that they can set a date, only for that date to internally be so ridiculous, then undo all of that in November?
My second question is: if they are unable to optimise this game, and have known about it for at least a year or more, what are they going to have to do to make it work?

It sounds like a clusterfuck at Rockstar Games.

Yeah this is me Mr. Apoc, Rockstar's biggest number 1 fan on Neogaf signing off

ridiculous that they are doing this, another year long delay.... and gaslighting us with no screenshots, trailers etc. If they don't care, why should I care

I'm done with this fucking company... DONE
Bro, u gonna double if not tripple dip, like most of us, be honest with urself, its safe space here :messenger_spock:

something is very wrong for them to delay this from this point. why not a few weeks earlier for the traditional end of october release? just an random date instead.

something has gone very wrong with the utilizing the ai for this game i'd expect. the company workers are protesting. it's chaos........
The workers are protesting supposed union busting tactics Rockstar supposedly used by firing 40 employees.

Last rumors I heard was the game is feature and location complete, story and all motion cap/vo and everything is done, but they've entered into a QA nightmare thats far larger than they expected, and they dont want to be the next No Man Sky, Cyberpunk, Starfield with launching in shambles.

Literally expected.

If you believed that release date with this company's track record that's on you.

That said, those PS5 sales eill blow up during that fall. Possible PS5s biggest fall ever.
Wolverine and GTAVI? Holy shit.
Wolverine is getting rekt if they launch same month

This delay means optically they turned this into a $59 game back from a $99 game.

(Real delay reason probably due to online mode and monetization of it)

Don't forget they keep laying off staff

According to Rockster to Bloomberg, the fired employees were leaking information

Grand Theft Auto' Studio Says Fired Employees Were Leaking Information
Yep, thats what Rockstar is saying, but there is a protest going on right outside their HQ building claiming the firing was for union busting.

Erasing all that woke crap

Also all them devs trying to avoid GTA should have had the balls and just released

It's very annoying because I recall several big titles got moved, I don't remember which ones anymore though. If Fable is actually still planned for next year I guess that could easily move into 2027 now, because no way it's earlier than holiday 2026 for that.

LOL. Never trust release dates folks.

Checking the wiki, original release date was about now (late 2025), so the delay is one full year. And that assumes Nov 2026 is true. They'll probably just delay it till 2027 when new consoles come out. Release cross gen versions so current gen gamers and any next gen gamers all buy it together.

It's really hard to tell, between this but mostly the delay, not sunny days at Rockstar.
10000%. I would not want to in the Take 2 boardroom right now, this development has to be going MASSIVELY overbudget, and every delay means Take 2 is showing another horrible quarter.

I think the vast majority of us said "lol, no it'll be delayed again" when they did the first delay. We all knew in our hearts this game wasnt coming in spring 2026

Launch title for next gen consoles

Sucks, but we all knew this was coming.

But being a launch title is terrible if you want 200 million sales of your game

GTA6 will target PS5 because it has 80 million consoles sold (probably 90 million sold by the time the game comes out)

PS6 might get an upgraded version in 2030

Believe this is only the second time they've delayed a game after setting an exact date.

I sold my PS5 three years ago as I was bored with gaming and still haven't pulled the trigger on a Pro as I was waiting for GTA VI. Death Stranding 2 is the only other game I really wanna play, though it's not enough by itself to get me to jump back in. But, at this point I might as well just wait until PS6 as it'll only be coming a year after GTAVI releases and I guess a next-gen upgrade for GTAVI will be in the works for the PS6 launch timeframe.

My only concern though is that spoilers are gonna be hard to avoid, so I might be forced to pick up a PS5 in the end. After barely gaming for so long and GTA VI likely being unavoidable in the media, I'll likely just not be able to resist.

As for the game itself, after all this it really has no choice but to be ground-breaking and mind-bogglingly good.

Would be nice to get another trailer soon to tide us over. They did release Trailer 2 four days after delaying from '2025' to 'May 26th 2006'.

Gotta be honest, I think the whole delay thing is just part of the plan for them now; whether it be a marketing tactic, a means of rallying the workforce to push harder, or both:

If GTA VI has been in conceptualisation since the mid 2010s, in pre-dev since 2018 and full development since 2020 (not to mention the insane budget & man power). Then them dropping a trailer with a '2025' at the end of 2023 while seemingly having an internal 'target' of early 2025, delaying with a hard release date of May 2026 in May of 2025 and then having to delay whole six months longer on top of that to deliver on their vision. This is a studio that's been delivering banger after banger for quarter of a century, are at the height of their game and have Take-Two relying on them to deliver...I have hard time believing they truly thought this was ever gonna be ready for early 2025 or even mid 2026. I think at the very top they knew end of 2026 was it, but on one hand they keep us wanting, they drive up hype and they keep their devs pushing towards a goal that may not be possible but in the end has them working over and above what they would do if they thought they definitely had more time.

Only bummer for me is this was an ideal game to jump back into gaming with during the summer. So the May release date was perfect. Taking care of business in the day then sitting down in the summer evenings to play GTA VI would've been real nice. Late November I'm more jammed up and less likely to have free chunks of time. Feel like the game was just gonna fit that summer vibe too.

Was also wondering if GTA VI might be the game to give the old physical midnight release thing one last hurrah (or even bring a bit of life back to the concept in this digital age). And such a thing is much nicer in May than it is November.

On the plus side, it gives me a little more time to make a decision on a new TV where I'll be playing it. Currently have a C7 55" OLED with premature pixel aging and anything remotely yellow-red looks green on it. Need to upgrade to a 65" Tandem OLED.

Na, I knew it would be delayed again to end of 2026, RDR2 has 2x delays, GTAVI has now.

It'll release in Nov 2026.

Lucky for them, there are plenty of suckers still buying GTAV game and the online.

All will be mild forgotten if they announce the desired RDR2 remaster in the next few months.

Agreed, all will be forgiven if GTAVI has the legs and lasting appeal GTAV had.

Being fall 2026 means it's going to be right at the tail end of the PS5's life too, so we'll likely see a "enhanced" version within a year for the Ps6

Launch PS6 title does not mean skipping PS5, you know.
