GTAIV Exclusive DLC bigger than anyone thought?

Jtrizzy said:
Seems like they kind of back off that comment in the second blog post.

Yeah he backpedaled - "People are claiming that Microsoft announced the game would be as big as Vice City/San Andreas."

People are claiming that because he gave that impression on the blog.

It's not hard to figure this out if the PS3 gets no DLC and the 360 gets SA sized DLC that the 360 is the version for the hardcore followers to only get, no doubt, barring any performance differences that may or may not be present in the other console version.

Anyone know if the PS3 version is going to take advantage of 7.1lpcm audio by chance though? I haven't seen it mentioned.

Lots of these sandbox games hitting this year it seems. GTA IV, Saints Row 2, inFamous, Prototype(?)... is APB hitting this year too? Definitely a good time if you're big into these types of games.

I'm really confused. I don't know what to do.
Please Rockstar say something clear about that so i can buy a 360 if the 360 version is really the definitive one.
Or has it already done ?

Holy fuck spwolf. Take off the jacket and stay awhile will ya? This is exclusive content to the 360. Not, it comes out later on the PS3 or it can come out at the same time. BOTH MS and R* have now said that. Do you need a signed affidavit from god? If you want to get the PS3 version, that's fine. Have a blast. Remember, according to most Sony fans, no one is going to play the DLC anyway. So, what's the fuss?

Put your jacket in the fucking closet.

lol. Why so freakin defensive? I just wanted to see where Rockstar said what was said on that blog ("Definitive version"). Point me. Educate me. I am not doubting it, I just want to see. Thanks a lot!

oh, thats official PR from Rockstar? He said this and that when asked this and that? :lol

Man, I just wish you guys dont get dissapointed at the end. Would suck for you.

I just hope PS3 version does not play worse. That would be deal breaker for me.

that would be great if it did, but I bet its just going to be 5.1DD same as 360's version

Man, I hope not, that's actually a massive selling point to me, and I would actually consider losing out on that DLC if it took advantage of that. Such a beautiful feature for me. Other MP games have done it, so I'm holding out on my hopes. Especially how audio rich GTA's are, I'd be all over that.

If they're squeezing the game and audio on to a 7.2GB disc then that leaves another 42GB for 7.1 audio.

Considering encoding to 5.1 AND 7.1 from masters isn't technically challenging or time consuming I'd expect PS3 GTAIV to sport 7.1 lossless audio.

As much as I want to believe it, if the DLC is as big as San Andreas or Vice City we are looking at a download taking up 2 to 3gb hdd space.

On a 12GB hdd? This is a lot of storage to dedicate to one game.

Who said all of the resources had to be in the download? I'm sure the DLC will most likely use plenty of resources on the game disc.

GTA IV on 360 FTW.

No price has been discussed yet. It’s up to Rockstar on whether or not they will charge for it

Wait a minute... so what about those $50mln. Wasn't it supposed to be an advance on sales ?

The drive won't be able to read that HUGE ammount of uncompressed audio data and stream the game data at the same time.

Oh wait. They could require an 8GB intallation to allow the drive read the uncompressd audio from the disc. :p

:lol

Seriously, that's all i can think of.

:lol to the bitter tears of PS3 owners coming up with outlandish theories on how the DLC will become available to them

:lol to the 360 owners rubbing it in, saying to buy a 360 if you want the "DEFINITIVE" version

:lol to R* if they think i'm buying this for the PS3 for more than $19.99 after telling me how "DEFINITIVE" the 360 version is

What if the exclusive DLC for 360 was a year's worth of rumors?

:lol

And it would be represented by like floating 3D Gossip Rags you had to find throughout the city.

You Have Found Rumor 25/200!

"As I said, MS has bad luck when it comes to the world 'exclusive', so maybe the exclusive DLC is just a few blocks, and a couple of lame missions."

BIP!

Meh, this whole DLC shit sucks ass :/ I can't believe that Rockstar might actually trick some people into buying GTA IV for PS3 and X360...

Anyone who believes the episodes are respectively Vice City and San Andreas is crazy.
Let's put things in perspective:

Vice City and San Andreas, together, sold well over $1 billion.

$50 million for the episodes equals ~$70 million in sales.

1000 million <> 70 million

:/

I'll be buying the ps3 version without remorse due to lack of a xbox360, the main game will be epic anyway.

You are going to regret this when the awesome, that is the dlc, rolls around. It will instantly make your game a sub par experience at best. If you like games you better get the 360 version at all costs.

Wait.. there are people ACTUALLY hoping that Rockstar sticks it to MS with the DLC? :lol

How fanboyish can someone possibly get? If you don't give a damn about getting potentially worthwhile extra content then by all means go pick up the PS3 version, but don't sick to the lowest depths of fanboy hell by suggesting that you would like to see Rockstar stick it to MS on the DLC SIMPLY because some of you are so jaded in your console loyalism that you are willing to gladly purchase the potentially less complete gaming experience of the 2 versions of the game.

Now as I said before if you don't give a damn about DLC regardless of how substantial it is fine, but to the very fact that some are hoping Rockstar sticks it to Microsoft pretty much proves that you have a great deal of interest in this DLC in the first place and are just hoping for the sake of your petty fanboyism that it doesn't end up being worth it so you don't feel stupid later on. :lol

interesting and good post. i lol with you sir.

it might even stop our games from playing eh? Afterall, MS did pay 50,000,000 dollars for it.

Well I gotta say the comments from Rockstar are a bit funny.

They mention how they don't want to get dragged into this console war, yet they are the ones offering exclusive DLC on one platform and saying it is the definitive version.

I'm getting GTA4 on 360 btw, but it is funny how things change when you get 50 million dollars in your back pocket.

They might not WANT to cheap out the PS3 userbase, but they do have a deal with Microsoft. I'm offering you 50 millions to develop an expansion, would you say no?

I wouldn't be surprised if R* is playing both sides and will also cut a deal with Sony to do some disc-based extra content for GTA IV.

I wouldn't be surprised if their contract with Microsoft precludes them from doing this.

What's new about Rockstar taking deals on the GTA series?

Given the likely size of the DLC for this game (and also factoring in those XBL Originals they offer) I gotta wonder just how long those who have the 20 gig hard drive (like me) can hold out without buying the Elite hard drive out since you only get 12 gigs of usable space O_o

[edit]Perhaps Rockstar might wanna think about releasing the DLC as a disc based product too?

Would probably be hard as the missions will involve the original landmass.

Edit: Unless the disc contained it all except the orignal story & missions.

I wouldn't be surprised if that contract is time-based or has certain loopholes that would allow R* to also make more money selling extra content for the PS3 version...but hey I guess we'll just have to wait and see how it all turns out.

In the end, all we know is that such outcome is just wishful speculation from one side of the fence.

At this point.

LIttleberu why ask a rhetorical question. :P

I know why they are doing it. I just find the flip flop funny.

Doubtful. It is possible though Sony is trying to work something out with the next real retail disc GTA game.

I take it you haven't seen the Shivering Isles expansion disc for 360?

I would say the 360 version has the edge right now because of the exclusive content, but who knows, maybe the PS3 version is gonna be better technically?

Personally, even though I don't own either console, if I did own both consoles the DLC wouldn't be such a big deal for me in my decision, mainly because I'm a cheapskate and I don't like paying for games after I've purchased them already.

How does it work exactly? Is the standard world of Oblivion just empty of quests (meaning the disc is standalone) until you reach the Shivering isle dimension or do you actually have to swap? Or is installation the only option?

It's for installation only.

previously on systemwarz:

"360 is getting stuff ps3 won't be getting. 360 owners will have to pay for it.
it will be substantial to the GTA experience, but it won't be a step up like VC or SA ( because VC and SA implemented entire new features like flying, diet, bikes, plus big graphical overhauls ). the core story, multiplayer and feature set will be equal on both. the performance of said game on the different consoles is unknown. "

That to me is the biggest issue on which version to get. It will be a lot more interesting if the PS3 version plays like ass compared to 360 than DLC
