i've got 3, i recently tried to downgrade from 3 to 2, but found it was impossible to actually sell a fucking guitar. everyone just wanted to trade. so i did a trade for a cheaper guitar + cash

Been playing forever but I’m pretty average overall. Started when I was about twelve and stopped for about ten years. Got back into it a couple years and got hooked again. I just feel I hit my peak. Still have my Ibanez rg series but prefer just playing my acoustic. Easier to just pick up when I’m bored.

Its easier then ever to learn with YouTube and all these Apps or whatever. Back when I was a teen I learned everything I know through someone else or tabs. Still don’t know how to read notes though.

I've got a Mexican Stratocaster and a Yamaha FS800 acoustic . Both are basically just collecting dust nowadays, but I'll pick up the Strat every now and again, and just mess around (unplugged) while I'm watching TV.

I was never any good - just one of those guys that could fool a non-guitar player into thinking he could actually play.

I play but I don't have an amp right now (well I have one but it's not here), couldn't use one in my current flat anyway. I have a small tabletop thing you plug into a PC but it has a bit of lag and I never liked it much.

Been playing a bit more now during lockdown, but I feel like I plateaued ages ago. When I started playing I just learned a lot of rock / metal songs, and there's usually a huge gap between the melody/rhythm parts and the solos, and I never got over that hump. Should probably take lessons at some point, maybe that'd help.

I used to play a bit but haven't picked up my guitar for about fifteen years until quite recently.

My son is starting to learn how to play so I've picked it up a few times recently. Hopefully I'll keep it going but I've been trying to learn a few new songs and I've found if I don't play them for a couple of days I've forgotten how to play them.

How do you like the ESP? I own an LTD 100 FM. It's a decent, bang-for-your-buck machine.

I got a knockoff stratocaster, too, my first electric guitar.

I mostly play rock/metal with a Vox AD50 tube/valve amp. My friend gave it to me when he moved out of town. Lots of cool effects to mess around with. I also have a Peavey Vypyr for practicing.

I have a couple acoustic guitar, too. Nothing fancy, just 70 dollar traditional Jameson found on Amazon and an 80 dollar Rogue from Sweewater. You really can't go wrong with a cheap acoustic either. They usually sound just as great as the really expensive ones, although not as nice on the feeling of the frets.

Anyways, I like to jam with friends, got a few projects/albums. Started my channel doing lots of covers, but I mostly stick to beats/instrumentals, much easier to produce than live instruments :

Any classical guitar players here?

Like many, the epidemic has given me much more time to practice. I bought a classical guitar a few years back, got to a basic beginner level, then left it at a friend's place for a few years (expected to be back to pick it up very quickly, but it ended up being a few years).

I've been going through Hal Leonard beginner book, spending an hour a day playing. Been making good, steady progress since the lockdown. Once I'm down with the book, I intend to subscribe to this guy's Patreon and get tabs for the various game covers he does. These are some of my favourites:










I'll probably start off with the Metroid one, as that seems relatively simple to play:

I mostly play classical guitar, but I don’t own a guitar at the moment as I have been travelling for a few years and just relying kn whatever the hostel has.

I was listening to a recording of a song I am working on today, and the little pauses while I think of what is coming next pain me greatly.

It's not bad. I'm not the biggest fan of SG shape and the melted look of the ESP isn't my favorite. But it feels pretty good to play and the active pickups make a pretty good sound.
I'm kinda over painted and lacquered necks though.

Hey! That's a cool thread. I've been playing guitar since 1991 but by no means I'm a great guitar player. I'm not a shredder but I can play a lot of stuff that pleases my ears! lol Riffing is my business.

My current equipment: a modded SG Special, an Epiphone 7 String Les Paul from 2001 (limited ed) and an Ibanez RG8 for my djenty needs! lol

This is the only amp I have now. The Line 6 solid state. I had to sell the tube amp a couple years ago.

It's been sitting for almost a year. I also had a Schecter Hellraiser C1 at one point. Very nice guitar with a set of active EMGs.

So when I'm not working and wishing I could play the guitar some more, I'm working on these custom models. It's a hobby I really enjoy.

I haven't practiced anything new in awhile, but I do twiddle out a few chords just to keep the callouses up. I would like to learn more about chord progressions and scales but I don't know where to start. I have a pick but I tend to fingerpick/strum on my acoustic.

Well the Ibanez was a bust. It had some pretty shit wiring and guitar center wanted money to fix it even though I'd only had it for 2 days. Granted it was a used guitar, but w/e.

I traded it for a blue schecter with EMGs and I have to say it's pretty damn nice too.

I recorded a simple riff with it if anyone wants to hear it.

Maybe it's just because I can't sing, but for some reason regular guitar never interested me, whereas classical/Spanish guitar attracted me straight away. This was one of the musicians who inspired me to take it up. She plays traditional Chinese pipa songs on a classical guitar. These look insanely hard, so I think being able to play these will be a 10 year goal:






I really like Ana Vidovic's Asturias:




I'm currently trying to master ascending and descending slurs. One of the things I like most about learning the guitar is how your brain and hands just seem to just work stuff out on their own. Often I'll be struggling and cursing myself for lack of progress, and then the next day things just seem to work and my fingers know where they need to be. I'm practicing an hour a day since the lockdown and hope I can carry on once normal life resumes.

My Dad was/is still a massive guitar collector and gave me the chance to play most of those. He's still collecting and owns a rare double-necked Gibson Les Paul prototype (marked: Murphy -Shaws 1971 Registration: 1). He got that for trading a Rickenbaker 12-string back in the late-70's. still

I used to play Fender Telecaster more than anything else. That was my go-to guitar. I needed something with 24-frets and settled with the Ibanez RG600 for a few years until I was able to find the PRS Custom 24 to replace it with.

Yeah, took awhile for me, too. There's still a stigma in baby-boomer guitar players that swear by only Gibson or Fender. I figure my Dad's one of those guys because he's never shown remote interest in the two PRS' I've owned.

Who really got Paul Reed Smith famous/recognized, btw...was it Carlos Santana or someone else? I know Santana helped push him as a reference to many veteran Gibson players in the late 80's. Sting, Mike Oldfield, and a few others had traded out their previous endorsements for PRS by 1990.

You'll find a better one than me. The newer models are coming down in price-going up in quality.
