Hackers Who Shut Down PSN and Xbox Live Now Attacking Tor

GAF IRC is a very hostile place. Usually when I have logged in in the past I got bombarded with choice words that would get an average GAF user banned and then some moderator disables my posting abilities. IRC is actually only useable for a select group of people.

Yea Mods there have like an "elite" club going. I was trying to join it when E3 2014 I think was going on and the smart pants there didnt let me post with all the rest of them. Wish a real GAF mod like Bish would make them junior members to see how it feels to treat your kind.

Isn't Tor where Pedos and all kinds of horrible people share illegal stuff.

Not sure I can hate on the squad for this.
>_<

You know who else uses it? Journalists talking to whistle blowers. And people in countries with oppressive regimes that don't want to die for detailing what's really happening in their country or are simply trying to find out truths of the world. Hell governments and militaries use it. It's like saying Bitcoin is bad because some people use it for silk road. Guess what, people use the regular internet and green backs for ill as well as good too.

I don't mean to lash out at you, since obviously you fell victim to propaganda and poor/bias media ... but it's really disheartening to hear tons of people complain about constant surveillance by entities like the NSA, who then turn around and incorrectly attack a technology that is useful in combating that.

I'm curious though, has this group ever stated what their real goal is? Their mission statement?

It seems really odd for hackers to attack both games and a technology for anonymous internet browsing. The Venn diagram between it all has got to practically be a single circle. So what's the end-game here? From the outside at least, this looks to be an incredibly self-destructive cut off your nose situation?

I think she or he means that it's not for everyone, in terms of usability and preference

No I mean the group of people that regularly use the GAF IRC have established a select club and prevent anyone from joining unless EvilLore were to pop in and and give approval or something.

I didn't know there was GAF IRC. Is that the moderators forum, where mods post and everything is liberal to talk even swearing, etc?? Does one have to ask Evillore to get in??

Yup.

Nah its just a few posters that started it up and then hid the identity of it. Basically it gets leaked around industry events when GAF goes down and they don't like anyone crashing the party that they don't approve of. It isn't a mod only thing, although that may exist also, In the deep deep web.

It seems really odd for hackers...
I'll stop you right there. They're not hackers, they're just script-kiddies. Running simple programs written by other people. They couldn't actually "hack" their way out of a paper bag.

I kind of hope they do spread out more. Eventually they're going to start pissing off some real hackers. And getting into TOR runs the risk of costing the wrong kinds of people money. Legitimate users aside, you can't deny that it's used for other stuff as well, and if they threaten to expose the wrong kind of people, the consequences will be a bit heavier than what they've been looking at so far.

But the solution is simple... just don't use TOR while this is happening. Unlike the rest of the web, TOR is just an option, a tiny little corner. Everything else still works fine, not like it's the end of the world for the majority of the users on there.

That's awful and totally against the spirit of these forums.

Now I feel bad bringing it up. Didn't know it was such a big deal. I've only ever seen it mentioned here and there. But last thing I would want to do is piss people off.

Gah. I need to get off GAF. I seem to be on a bad streak today. I accidentally posted an image with a slur in it. Now I posted about something I shouldn't have. Feel like I'm going to cry (sorry, been having a really shit/hard week).

Just going to log off now.

ahh,
well that sucks.

Nah you're fine. Don't be silly.

It really is. Even if there were some "bad apples" joining, the Mod there could just "silence them" and let everyone from the Forum join in, in the conversation. Instead you go there expecting to chat with fellow Gaffers and are unable to post.

I asked one time the Mod or whatever there that I was a GAF member and that I post here all the time yet he said I wasnt a "regular" or some bullshit. Made me feel really bad. Whatever though there is another GAF IRC where they welcome you. Forgot the address but Im sure someone will let you know if you ask for it when big events are happening.

DDoSing in terms of network security is a joke due to how easy it is. In the Cisco material I was reading when studying for my CCNA they even point out that fact, but this is certainly a more interesting "attack" to witness.

I'm interested to see why they'd even want to do this though, because the people they are supposidly targeting are more than likely outnumbered by normal users who want an anonymous connection to things or by journalists. I'd rather them "attack" if you want to call it that services and servers of companies that are either damaging the planet or hurting people.

Then again, those companies probably have a better network security team and a better security setup which these guys probably wouldn't be able to break.

I'd laugh if the hackers got hacked in return.

Now that would be hilarious.

They actually got exposed already by a group of hackers that resulted in their Twitter getting taken over and eventually suspended, and their data being doxxed.
All the drug cartels and whatnot really have to do at this point is google for a minute, and they could go to town.

Given the fact family members of them were listed there, I sincerely hope that those are not going to be involved in this in any shape or form, but I fear that they might also be harmed as "collateral damage".

I guess their goal is represented by your avatar (no offense, obviously). The 4Chan for the Lulz mentality.

I feel like I might be breaking the law just for asking, but how would one go about if you wanted to access this deep web, and potentially see all the crap there is? It's not like there is a specific forum for the different kinds of criminal activities or a search engine for the unlisted stuff, is there? :lol

I don't know why you'd want to see child pornography.

I found a donation site to fund "Islamic armed struggle" in North America when I tried deep web the first time.

Yeah, that place is like the Terminus System.

They love running their mouths on social media, Darkode forums and their open chat platform @ lizardpatrol[dot]com so reputation and bragging rights seems to be the main motivator.

Their attracks on XBox and PSN weren't particularly sophisticated so we can rule out 'advertising' for a mercenary BotNet (some operators attack to show off the ability of their slaved network but there is no such chatter on hacking forums that I'm aware of.)

This might explain their shift to TOR relays - their hacking ability was questioned by black hats and security experts alike and the 'script kiddie' label must have stung them. Maybe by disrupting TOR, they're trying to regain their credibility and show they can do more than straightforward layer7-DDOS attacks on soft targets.

I don't know why you'd want to see child pornography.

I dont know if your joking or not but be careful with your words buddy it could look like your making nasty accusations that if said to the wrong person in the wrong place at wrong time, could be taken seriously for the other person

There was an article in Time about tor and the deep web. It's all bad, scary stuff. Like, you can hire hitmen there. I would absolutely not want to mess with the people who use tor.

Edit: sorry, I shouldn't say all bad. There are legitimate reasons to want to protect your own privacy online. But there are a bunch of scary people I wouldn't want to cross there.

Seems like it isn't affecting them much.

Tor Project statement on today's attack.

This looks like a regular attempt at a Sybil attack: the attackers have signed up
many new relays in hopes of becoming a large fraction of the network.
But even though they are running thousands of new relays, their relays
currently make up less than 1% of the Tor network by capacity. We are
working now to remove these relays from the network before they become
a threat, and we don't expect any anonymity or performance effects based
on what we've seen so far.

So is it true that Lizard Squad has issued a direct chanllenge Anonymous?? Just read that Anon told them to stand down on hacking Tor and they said "Make us" or something to that effect?.

Hoo boy

As much as im on team Anon....

For some hack group trying to be taking serious on more political level they also act childish "dont fuck with...." really? c'mon!

Edit: lol at Anon telling to stand down, they know Lizard aren't gonna do that, they want Lizard to challenge them, and they got their wish

I dont understand one thing. If finest squad doxed lizard squad and assuming the dox is true (as finest insists) then why isn't the FBI catching these assholes already?

Many minors and informants among them and a complicated burden of proof. It's a pain to investigate and a mess to prosecute... way less straightforward than it seems

But lizard squad doesn't really seem to care? They're still posting as though nothing happened. Doesn't really make sense to be honest.

So... so far, this looks like it's not having much effect.

Tor deals with way worse threats on a daily basis than some run-of-the-mill hackers. It'll be fine.

However, if worrying leads to a grey hat VS black hat hacker fight, then sign me up for PANIC!

This has only been going on for a few days and likely the companies involved have not even pressed charges (usually the priority is security and service, then internal analysis, then working with the authorities.)

I don't know the FBI but if they're anything like their European counterparts, you're not going to see spectacular arrests that soon after the fact. Also, who knows where these clowns are in the world - that's a mess to sort out and make actionable too.

LS are def ScriptKiddies before anyone misunderstands me....

but remember the time people use to call Anon ScriptKiddies until they hijacked CNN live on Air and also many Twitter accounts and other stuff

People need to understand that while some or even a majority of the people apart of these groups are scriptkiddies the rest do know their shit and are most likely telling everyone else what to do and how to do it.
