That's a real capture.Gattsu25 said:Damn...my memory must be off or something because I never remembered PD:Z looking anywhere near that good. Is that a bullshot or off-screen picture?
dark10x said:Noticed I mentioned their framerate failure? It was a serious problem. The game was a seriously flawed piece of software, but it did some things very well. It should never have been a launch title.
Some PDZ shots for comparison fun...

and it's art of course. PDZ overuses just about every flashy thing it can do. way over done HDR, bloom, bump mapping (parallax i think but could be displacement, been a while), and reflections.dark10x said:That's a real capture.
The problem with PDZ is its HDR lighting usage. Like PGR3, certain positions would result in a dull haze. There are some REALLY ugly locations in the game as well. The jungle area is one of the best, I thought, along with the second and third missions.

I popped in the beta again, just now, and gave it a once-more through. As I said, many of the effects are subtle, if not understated. Since we're, at this point, used to shit litterally blooming / blowing up in our faces, it's understandable that people might sense a void when the game doesn't blind you with specular highlights on every surface, or overdone bloom effects washing everything out. that being said, what is there is indeed awesome--I dunno, maybe I'm just too impressed with valhalla's lighting, water effects, foliage, and textures (esp. the central structures.). Going back and forth between it and Halo 2, there is honestly no comparison.

GSG Flash said:Well, I still don't think that's a good excuse, the first trailer for Halo 3 showed us that it can be one of the best looking games on the 360, no matter if they meant the art direction to be in place for the Xbox, if they reached that target, I still think that trailer looks great but the Halo 3 we're seeing right now doesn't.
No...and I'm not slamming Halo 3 either. I think it looks fine, just a bit disappointing. I'm sure it will look a lot nicer in single player on my own TV, however.Speevy said:dark10x, are you playing the Halo beta right now?
meltpotato said:it's no excuse. it's reality- for better or worse. how is the trailer much different? i'm sure you will see the battle-worn MC with long draw-distance in the single-player.
GSG Flash said:You can't really go out and say it's reality unless you are one of the developers on the team making the game, unless you are which then...well...errr
I for one think the established art direction for the series is not holding the game back graphically. Maybe the game will look better in single player (although Halo 2 to me looked superb in both multi and single) but GOW has already shown us the 360 can pump out nice visuals in both single and multi. I'm not willing to give Bungie a free get out of jail card just because this is Halo 3.

Feel free to go look at my scores on Bungie.net and you'll find no MP for Halo2 and all of one game for H3. You can take all the offense you want to being called a fanboy, but even a brief perusal of your posts tels the story to anyone who cares.

I'd love to, but I'm not about to buy Crackdown and I can see no other way. I'm a HUGE Halo fan (as my long defense rants should show you), but I'm not going to buy a game I found boring for a 3 week trial period of Halo 3.Tieno said:go play the beta
