Halo 3 trailer on xbox live now.

Fixed.

One thing worth mentioning is some of the game comparisons going on here (and I wish you guys would shut the fuck up with it all, but whatever) are all in fairly tight environments, not lots of visibility. It's been established that the trailer is realtime. There's not debate over that, period. Bungie has said a few times now that the crater is over three miles in diameter.

Three miles. With all the ships, that detailed MC model, the city in the background (Frankie specified that's an actual location, built in geometry, not a skybox). I think the detail looks fantastic, but the sheer freaking scope there is what gets me. And it's beautiful, which is something all the Halo games have been.

But continue on with the rest of this insipid debate.

I would just like to point out that 3d enviroment there ain't close to foreground one when it comes to texture/3d details of course(because it doesn't need to be since you can't actually go there, it's far away eye-candy. Though I know you know this.). And the mountains, city & ships in the very far distance is a painting despite what Frankie said(maybe he meant that you can walk there and it will be a full geometric city when you get closer). Of course, he could be refering to some crude 3D boxes.

Its kinda pathetic that you have to resort to labelling people to get your point across. I knew its gonna be endless bickering thats why I put up the bet so the discussion can continue, so why don't you just man up and take the bet.

You can believe what was shown to be achievable if not surpassed as much as it pleases you. But I say the final retail version would not look anywhere near as good as what was shown, not that it matters, because Halo is about gameplay not awesome graphics, which brings up the question of why they did not show any gameplay at all because If it was all real time as you and others suggested, It looks like they have enough assets to show what could be representative of gameplay. Development must still be in the early stages, what you saw was highly probable to be CG renders.

Something tells me that this guy has no idea what a CG render is. (And that he is very pathetically defending his rather feable point).

pffftt.. Pointless circular drivel. I'm bookmarking this thread.

Bookmark away, all I'm saying is that you clearly do not know what a CG render is.

Halo 3 could look like an Atari 2600 game by the time is releases and that wouldn't change the evident truth of the above statement.

How have my point that it doesn't look as good as CG been proven wrong?

Also funny how with a 360 game CG is any computer generated graphics but with PS3 it's top of the line Pixar movie type CG.

It wouldn't matter I wrote a 10 page post on the subject or a 3 word "retarded" sentence, the response would still be the same.

People who think the final game 'can't' look like this clearly haven't seen the best looking x360 titles.
In fact there's nothing beyond what we've played on microsoft console in this trailer...actually, i can't see what's so remarkable about it besides the fact that it's halo.
Technically speaking it's not that great, seriously.

Haven't you guys figured out Nithr yet? :lol

Yeah alot of people seem to have trouble getting that I don't think it looks like CG (the type of CG that is usually associated with these type of discussions but strangely not in this case).

Even you know what I mean. You're not that far gone yet.

Nope I do not know what you mean then. That I will pick up Halo 3 on day 1 just like I did with Halo and Halo 2? Is that what you mean?

uh.. the trailer is obviously real-time, anyone thinking this is prerendered has no clue about the state of realtime graphics today

and I agree with some people here.. it looks nice, but hardly better than some things I have seen in realtime on 360

Just remember you chose to play stupid when confronted. It will make all the difference later.

Oh wow...

Is it going to really take a literal hammer to the skull for you to get that everything shown in the trailer was where Bungie was at at that point in time with playable code actually running on the 360 hardware, and not a damn render?

What the hell are you blabbering about talking about "shown to be achievable"? With that teaser, they've shown where they were - they've even passed that by now... good Lord... is comprehension that hard for you?

This game has got to be the best looking thing you've ever seen, and it's just clawing at your feeble heart for you to go to all this trouble despite Bungie saying in the most understandable way that this is actual in-game "we're this far with playable code" stuff... AND despite Gamespot seeing the damn scene getting controlled before their very eyes with the 360 controller and the 360 dev kit right in front of them...

And you know what's the funniest thing? It's only going to get soooooooo much better looking in the end, since they still have so far to go... but then again, you'd probably be in denial despite somebody popping the disk in right in front of you when the game is out on shelves and playing it right in front of you...

I hope someone from Bungie sees this thread, and they see how awesome their game really looks based on these comments, when they still have so much more to add... this thread is one hell of a compliment - looking so good that these people can't believe it's not CG... go Bungie!

Oh look, another know-it-all who apparently knows more than Bungie themselves, and knows what's true and what's not... wow.

I mean, if this guy says that Frankie, who actually WORKS at Bungie, gets to play and see the game everyday, is lying, well damn, he must be right!

Another huge compliment for you guys at Bungie! Here's another guy who's in disbelief...

Why don't I see this kind of crap in other game threads? Are they not good-looking enough to get a denial treatment? We even got somebody posting Final Fantasy CGI for comparison in here (and please keep that sh*t out of here, thanks) - I don't see that in other threads...

Keep working hard Bungie - keep showcasing that talent of yours, and keep these guys in disbelief...

i have to admit the trailer looked cool, BUT and this a big problem....

1. No info to the story
2. what happened to Kortana
3. NO IN-GAME FOOTAGE

whoawhoawhoa, stop the party.

I think he's onto something here.

It's almost as if it was designed to be a teaser...

The proof of it being real-time is in the fact that Bungie showed off the engine to selected people, running through the teaser, stopping to see the sights and new technology in real-time etc, much like Kojima did with the Metal Gears Solid 4 teaser.

Wether you mean to say that gameplay will not look like that, well that's another discussion and you can be of that opinion. But it seems irrelevant at this point where no gameplay has actually been witnessed.

You've gotta be freakin' kidding yourself here. :lol

Why did Nithr post in this thread anyway :lol?

m0dus: you lost a lot of blood on that one guy, I applaud you :lol

It's in the mail with your six level playable demo.
zomg - Halo 3 confirmed to have at least six levels!!!

But seriously - it's an announcement teaser and is pretty comparable in purpose to the Halo 2 announcement teaser. In fact, they are constructed and paced similarly. (1st half focused on MC walking from point A to point B while distorted voice-overs play, then pan to reveal Covenant swarming over Earth.) It's a teaser, and a good one at that.

omg hot! something else to watch 100 times in a row
The funny thing is, I *just* got done watching the trailer again. I watch it every day before I leave work. The radio got stolen out of my car a while ago, so I listen to music at the end of the day so I have something in my head for the drive home. Lately it's been this music.

and here I thought I was leaving work now. :lol

Now, we have these movies in just about every flavor you can imagine, and there's a full HD one coming to Xbox Live Marketplace sometime soon (in a week or two),

wooooooooo

And if you look very, very carefully, you'll see hints of things to come. Nothing too dramatic, but the fans will spot stuff, of that we're certain.

woooooooooooo x10

Jim McQuillan, our long time partner at Film Oasis and now full-time Bungie employee,
Awesome, those guys rock.

Now, we have these movies in just about every flavor you can imagine, and there's a full HD one coming to Xbox Live Marketplace sometime soon (in a week or two), so make sure you choose the correct file to download. Our advice is to right-click and save your preferred format. Do not attempt to stream the big ones - especially the full HD 720p one.
hell yes.

Hot. Even better HD version coming to live = hotter.

Mmmm.

Edit: Where the **** is my trailer music mp3?

I got the quicktime HD version, and there's some neat things you can see on their monitors if you pause it.

3:00 has the new marine character models. helmet, visor, mic, etc
3:03 has the brutes, and a new weapon. It looks like the blade from the Brute shot but its on a handgun.

There's probably more, thats just the stuff that I noticed.

jetpack elites? Those things are brutes!

Hmm yea, looking at it again you're right.

I don't remember the Brutes having that gear on them in Halo 2 although it's been a while since I played the single player.

This is like the Halo-2-we-swear-to-god-its-realtime CG trailer all over again. The new halo is their flagship title so you know its gonna be awesome but you can't possibibly fall for it a second time can you? :/

Halo 3 Teaser is a target....

I think I'll be spending some quality time with this later tonight. Lots of snippets of footage.

I both love and hate this stuff. Love it 'cause it's Halo 3, and I get to see it right now.. and the music rocks... and it's beautiful.

HATE it cause I won't be playing it anytime soon. *sobs*

Yeah, I have mixed feelings about this as well. Bungie left us hanging a bit after Halo 2, and now they're going to end it all with #3.

The end of the trilogy. :(

I'm sure there will be other explorations into the story, but this it seems counterintuitive that MS/Bungie would want to kill off a cash cow like Halo. I have faith in Bungie though. Overall, they're one of my all-time favorite developers- console and PC.

I was pretty impressed by the trailer, but what made the whole thing for me was the music. Though I'm only a lukewarm fan of the actual Halo games (good multiplayer though) I've always been a fan of the soundtrack.

I realize this is a bump of an old thread, but it seemed like the one most suited for this particular bit of news, which I don't think warranted its own.

The music track to this trailer is now available on iTunes for the standard $0.99. I was kind of hoping it would be free and released over Bungie.net, but it is a piece of original music, and so the reasoning to release it this way is pretty sound. Anyways, there were requests for the track in this thread, so now, six months later, it's available. :)
