Halo |OT13|

A few things:
-1 Flag/Bomb has no place on Coagulation, replace with Neutral Bomb.
-Gemini is primarily an Oddball/KOTH map, Flag on it was always weird because of how the teleporter affected routes.
-2 Flag/Bomb on Headlong? Ew.
-Add Midship 2 Bomb/Neutral Bomb/Oddball/KOTH.
-Lockout Oddball addition.
-1 Bomb Ivory Tower was great. Two arming spots!

-Orbital is terrible, nobody should ever look at it except as a tutorial of what not to do.
-Last Resort's objective modes were marred by its horrible base design. Giant empty room, no cover for carriers. Zanzi/Last Resort were decent Snipers maps, but were not good for regular Slayer due to their compartmentalization.

Reach objective:

Zealot (2 Flag, Neutral Bomb)
Countdown (2 Flag)
Powerhouse (KOTH (?), 1 Flag)
Anchor 9 (2 Flag, 2 Bomb, Neutral Bomb)

Not counting remakes. I am totally apathetic towards Halo 4's objective gametypes, so that's a list for someone else to make.

Solid additions and I agree with almost all of them, I'll let some other responses come in and then post an updated version towards a top of page soon.

All this hatred towards this game makes me wonder what Halo 5 will be like. Will they try to progress and improve the same features that were in Halo: Reach and Halo 4? Go back to Halo 2/3 style? Or try something new?

I can't see them scrapping everything they added to Halo 4.

The only hope we have for a Halo CE/2 experience is either Halo 2 Anniversary, or a spinoff game. It would be awesome if 343 did a spinoff that featured the chief before CE.

I'd actually like it if all the maps went free and were required for matchmaking, even if I had already paid for them. I would personally get more value from them because they would be integrated into the game in a balanced way.

After some games, here is my impression of the actual Crimson Map Pack.

Death barriers ] (Rocks / Open space) with things [ Base ] (Rocks / Open space) with things [ Wall / Limit

Same idea, different designs.

[/troll]

I'll label this the multiplayer experience approach. In an attempt to stave off complaints can we agree on a decent clear cut list of experiences we enjoy in through all Halo games? Maybe this can help guide 343i about what it is the community actually wants.

I've completed CE, Halo 2 & Halo 3. If I have time I'll add Reach & Halo 4.
Map list

I see why you are trying to do, but I disagree with half the maps on there and people are going to disagree with my opinion. Their will never be a set of maps that everyone will agree with. And construct was a better koth map than slayer

Whoever came up with the idea to start charging for map packs is a wiener.

Barlow, if you make a thread, you know as well as I do it won't accomplish anything. I mean, I agree with your feelings for the most part, but all that thread will be is a torch and pitchforks rally.

Then go ahead and make the thread.

When I said someone I meant not me. I don't care enough to do it. I'm just tired of putting up with 343. I know a thread would be pointless.

Maybe Halo 5 will be better but I'm not sure if I'll still be playing Halo by then.

There are a lot of dumb design decisions in Halo 4's multiplayer, but reacting to DLC release problems like 343 intentionally did it to frustrate Halo fans is stupid. Many other games have had DLC release problems, it is not uncommon. I feel like many people in this thread are taking their frustration with the game itself and putting it on 343 for problems that are likely Microsoft/Xbox Live's fault. The unwarranted anger/hatred in this thread is kind of sad.

Initially I was saying I liked 90-95% of the game. I think I'm now at between 65-80%.

They need to update the following to make this a stellar game, many here agree the core game of grenades and weapons has been nailed and improved out of sight. The changes need to make this game the Halo it can be:

1. Introduce smaller maps, just like Lockout, Guardian, The Pit etc.

2. Clean up objective by allowing dropping of the flag, keep the Waypoint if you must. Again introduce some smaller maps here. Regicide FFA sucks, team regicide is pure gold, CTF needs some tweaks, assault should come back, extraction can go die and just be dominion as it is anyhow.

3. Fix the bugs, 343i have been responsive here but need more transparent communication or even official forums to discuss with the actual developers/designers AND the community.

4. Complete the missing features and comment on a time frame e.g. not before XMAS or 3 months away. Not knowing about file share is a joke.

5. Spartan Ops needs more variety and locations, I think we are all seeing good things for the second half of SPOPS. Everyone loves the CGI but I think most would have preferred the resource investment in actual mini campaign like missions. Reduce to 3 focused and unique core missions per week, in game cinematics with your progressive character etc.

6. Take in more commnuuity feedback regarding specific playlist settings and maps. There is no reason they can't have in game opt in voting on some basic features or questionnaires or official forum voting polls advertised in game to automatically collate player feedback to join with their other game statistics/tracking.

Which ever map this one is:

The name of the map is in the post you just quoted, lol. That's Wreckage.

The lighting I mentioned being particularly outstanding (Especially when you compare it to some of the modest or overblown lighting in a lot of other Halo 4 maps) is on the Harvest map, which is the long human CTF map with the rocky Warthog ramps along the sides.

It's the type of aesthetic I like that reminds me of early mourning. Also, It hits a sweet spot with the HDR, the camera doesn't have to constantly re-adapt the exposure because there is a good mix of contrast and color all around. The sunlight is pretty bright, but it reaches around corners and bounces off the metallic walkways and diffuses into the walls and into the crevices and corners of the human structures down the center of the map.

Unlike other bright and metallic human maps, such as complex, (which has decent lighting by comparison) a lot of the map is not in direct sunlight, because of the trains, catwalks and various glass and metal emplacements overhead. So, you get a lot of warm indirect ambient light from the sun that looks awesome.

I actually got the ODST achievement while on a man-cannon.. very rare occasion while everyone else gets it some other irrelevant way.

I'd suggest with a little iteration and input the list could potentially become a blueprint for 50-85% of what a developer needs at concept and testing stages of maps/settings.

I'm not trying to make a 100% here you go developer list, it's more about finding out the major trends and covering the minor wants as best you can. The community and analysis is more than capable of delivering a 50-85% list and the developer can do their own ideas for the other 15-50%. Seems like the perfect balance to me and helps speed things up. Seriously have 10 years how do we not have a core set of less than 3 playlists with settings that make everyone more than 75% happy?

Halo 4 was close to this but too much 343i putting their own stamp on it. It should be the community that puts the stamp on things and he developer has room to innovate and be creative.

If they don't fix Halo 4 they can forget about 5. You don't have the install base on a new system and Halo 5 has to be the system seller.

Only problem? They lost the Halo fan. Such a poor read by them when half of the Halo fans were on the fence after Reach so what do they do? They expand on every single thing we hated about Reach.

Still free. Cool. Feel bad because a friend that I barely plays bought the Season Pass for whenever he has time to actually play.

I just played my first two matches on the new maps. One match on Shatter and then the other on Harvest.

Those maps are so similar. The fact that they both got greenlit and paced in the same map pack is mind blowing. It is an absurd decision.

Don't assume about everyone.

Great post. I instantly liked Harvest's aesthetic when I saw it. The map just feels solid all around (save for the framerate problems).

I agree - Harvest is the best of the three. However the framerate issues are a bit intense at times - and I still have the issue roughly once a match where all game sounds simply stop. It usually happens after a Warthog drives close by and/or explodes.

Off topic, but i think Spartan Ops needs to be scrapped for 5.

rename flood infection again and create a zombies/survival mode called flood where we kill waves of flood.

firefight was shit because survival modes only work with mindless bullet sponge AI. Having a survival mode with normal Halo enemy AI was an asinine move.

BR Slayer was a thing.

^Almost makes me think all the nonsense was added late into development.

Looks that way. There's no points, text, ordnance, AA, or anything in that image. Just BR Slayer.

ok, its 90% correct. Is that better? The population tells you a lot. A proper Halo release and everyone is playing CoD on their console.

Disgrace.

A halo 2/3 remake could have been done and everyone would still be playing cod. Cod is like the apple of the gaming industry. Release the same product over and over again and everyone will go ape shit over it even though it isn't the greatest product out their

Hmmmmm, I am trying to download the map on my old xbox 360 that I gave to my bro, with his account and the Specialization code I just got, but it is listed as 800 MS points in the marketplace window when I load it from inside the Halo 4 menu. I tried rebooting as well.

Is the glitch patched or am I missing some important step?

More COD VS Halo stuff.

SMGs are/were overpowered in Blackops 2. Vonderhaar said "We couldn't pay people to play them in testing, online we can't stop people from using them. They were overpowered, so they are getting tweaked."

Developers admitting their tests flawed and making adjustments to weapons? What is this?!? INSANITY.

P.S. Nerf boltshot.

Sounds like it's been fixed.

I think it was just the reveal strategy. Illustrating that the "core" was still Halo. Strafe, BR, jumps, etc. It worked, going by how often that .gif was posted. Then they introduced the stuff they layered atop it.

Man, Treyarch's community support is Bungiean, or better, these days.

The hint was in the score.

There have been so many bungles with this game... Communcations with fans, Specialisations, Map Pack not available for LE, then free maps for everyone... I just can't get my head around how so many of these mistakes have happened. The people at 343 have all shipped a "AAA" game right?

Nope. Still not buying it. Population decrease was inevitable with the huge popularity increase in CoD (and other shooters). If Halo 3 launched today I'd bet you'd see something similar. To the same degree? Maybe not, but you can't just say "less people now 100% positively means that 343 lost everyone that likes Halo and there were no other outside influences."

Let's be realistic in our arguments at least.

I'm okay with free maps. maps should always be free eventually. However, MS needs to make it up to Season pass holders, i would be pissssseddddd

I have no issue with the additions of Reach or Halo 4. I enjoy having a new game and new mechanics to play with. Armour lock and the bolt shot range/reload glitch suck but overall I enjoy infinity slayer and all that comes with it. It needs tweaks to smooth it out though. It's great they have consolidated the playlists but created distinct settings for each.

I can see 343i trying to create custom versions of Flood, Oddball and return objective back to its former glory days. Kudos to them for reading the previous games success, creating their own Halo but more iterations and smaller maps need to come to the forefront now.

Weekly playlist changes are welcomed, bug fixes are welcomed and map packs being released quickly are all good things. We now need tweaks and smaller arena style maps which will cater for both hardcore and default playlists/settings while being played as slayer or objective. I'm not an MLG play at all but examples like The Pit as slayer or CTF or assault are cornerstone Halo to me. They need to essentially replace Slayer Pro with an MLG playlist/setting and give it FFA & 4v4 or 5v5 as separated. If they can move objective to have a little more flexibility like dropping the flag then great.

With some work Halo 4 has the potential to be the best and most diverse Halo to date. In my opinion they need to be more on the ground with the fans and less about their own vision. From what I've seen and heard recently I suggest hiring Bravo is a fine example of stepping in the right direction. I want them to be the developer but I want a large chunk of that to be direct from the player base.

Its paywalled in the DLC playlist and marketed as a 'new mode' - I doubt it will be in general matchmaking.

I would say Microsoft are being greedy and using it as a marketing ploy... but they have been very generous to Halo fans* with this map pack.

* - not including Halo fans outside America or Halo fans who are stupid enough to pay money in advance.

Never again man. I bought the console and pre ordered every version of Halo and the best version always. That LE was a disgrace, all digital bullshit. Hell, even the console didn't come with the map pack. This may be it for me.

I made a post months ago before release. It said who cares if the CORE is there cause you play with the skin and the skeleton. You have to deal with everything thats in the game.

All Halo's need are a new coat of paint, that is currently aligned with the system we have. If you have a shitty 360 as your system you make it as good as possible that still allows the skeleton to not be crushed. They don't do that though, they allow the skin to crush the skeleton. Its a balance and they will get it right for Halo 5. Halo 5 will be 60fps and will have dedicated servers. It will have the most solid foundation that any Halo has ever had. From there the options to do whatever will be available but not forced.
