Halo Reach & Bungie at GamesCom 2010

2 Minutes Turkish said:
Well that's the thing.

I've always been a campaign person. I mean I play multiplayer, but SP takes up the bulk of my Halo playtime, and always has.

I mean, I watched the start of the stream, but seeing a vid isn't the same as actually PLAYING it.

As I said, I've organised for the 14th and 15th off work, so playing it now would render that useless. If I get a chance to go down there, I'll have a dabble in Firefight since we played the Beta anyway.

Seeing some new weapons and shit wont hurt.
Stolen is stolen. Your friend stole that game, you playing it is just as bad, especially if you know it's stolen.

GRRRRRRR

I swear some days I want to hunt down SOBs that kill their teammate who has the flag at the last second just so they can get the cap.

I detest that and getting betrayed because you took the weapon some other moron on your team wanted.

I watched some kid pick up the sniper on Valhalla, some teammate with no mic betrays him to get the weapon. Well the one who got betrayed spends the whole rest of the match just cursing at and meleeing the other player.

We loose by only 5 kills, both of them go minus double digits and only one of them has a single kill. Just a horrible way to lose.

This is why I wish friendly fire was off in most playlists.

Yeah no.

Doesn't work that way. If people stopped downloading torrents tomorrow, it wouldn't stop guys doing it for themselves.

So yeah, I get your anger and frustration, but no.

So, I think I may have to take back the bad things about the advertising for reach. These images more than make up for the the underwhelming campaign lately.

To feed my Halo fix, I just went through the level Metropolis from Halo 2 and heard a couple choice lines from the Marine voiced by David Cross:

"Are you made of leprechauns? Cause that was awesome."

Sitting on the side of my tank after I took 2 Wraiths head on: "Ok, I'm leaving. That was crazy. You have a problem."

Ok, so next time someone offers you a test drive in a stolen car that's fine.

The worst part is how no one takes it serious, it's no big deal that you're basically stealing something or taking part in something that is stolen. Your "friend" is no different than if he went to the store and took the game out of the case.

I bolded the part I was referring to.

I'm aware him downloading the game is stealing. That part, I never argued. But saying I'm just as bad is where you're wrong.

He was going to download regardless of whether I play or not. And as I said earlier, IF I can get down there to try it. I said I was torn by my want to play it fresh on launch day, and my desire to just play the fucking game.

So I was merely correcting your overreaction.

Game piracy isn't a 'ignore it and it will go away' problem. So whether I play it or not on the console of a pirate is of no consequence.

Hey guys I was on the B.net forums and someone posted this Samsung Galaxy S commercial. It rips off Halo so bluntly is not even funny.

LINK

I figured it'd be something light, but they really did just buy one of those Chief suits and added stuff on it... :lol

Wow...I want this ad now!

Asking for HaloGAFs opinion on wanting to play a friend's stolen copy of Reach, and then defending your opinion of the situation against advice/opinions offered in response to you, seems a bit counterproductive.

"Hey, can I have some of that money you stole? It's okay for me, because I didn't actually do the stealing."

...Not saying I never stole in my life, but this is the argument you're supporting.

Not reeeeally the same thing.

He did say that in all likelihood he probably wouldn't play.

A few overreacted. Possibly upset they don't have the chance to play early?

Jeez that's totally not the same thing at all :lol .

If I had a friend who had Reach, I'd go over and play some splitscreen multi with him. No campaign, want to keep that fresh for myself. But he's right, that guy would have downloaded it no matter what.

2 Minute Turkish joining him to play some Halo doesn't make him the bad guy here.

I was going to run with the, "come watch a movie with me on this epic TV I just stole" angle.

I mean, he was going to steal it anyways. He already has, in fact. And you're just going to check out some of what it can do. It's not like your refusal to to watch the movie affects the theft of TVs, right? Might as well.

But that's me. Stealing is stealing. It's a cancer on the hobby I love.

This what I was going to say.

Turkish in other posts has intimated that he'll be buying reach AND the reach 360. So it's not like bungie and ms are losing a sale.

It'd be no different to him being friends with a reviewer. He's trying it out (possibly)

Yeah stealing sucks and all but fuck me some in here need to calm down.
Reviewers don't steal their copies.

He never said that he wouldn't buy the game because his friend pirated. I'm not defending the piracy, but did you really compare it to driving a stolen car?

You know, I think I will come watch your stolen TV. I mean, I'm going to buy a TV soon so it's okay.

Shogun What were those hand-phones you were talking about a few days ago...?
Also the last few pages have been awesome... :P :lol

-I personally think this would ruin Halo.
Why is that?
I wouldn't want it turned off it more competitive playlists. However, in the more social, guest filled playlists it really is hugely annoying.

Reach Console is being put on hold for me when it comes out.

Already have a limited and legendary pre-ordered. I own 2 copies of every Halo game bar Halo CE which came with my Green original Xbox.

I was only contemplating TRYING the game, not playing it to completion so I don't have to buy it.

I know, but you know what I'm gutting at.

He's being given an opportunity to play a game early. How that copy was acquired is out of his control.

He's still buying it.

-I see your point. The reason I like it is because at any point you can blast your teamate in the face with a shotgun if you need to. In a lot of shooters without FF people do super annoying things like pile up in doorways so that you can't get past. For me it adds a realism to the game that keeps it interesting. I can't count how many hilarious film clips I've seen that wouldn't exist if FF was off.

Go and have fun. We may try to convince you that it's morally unacceptable but it's only because deep down we wish we had a friend with Halo: Reach.

It's really just a philosophical question. Make it more generalized, and the situation is: someone has stolen something and wants to show it off. Does the fact that you plan to buy the same item a short time later make going to check it out okay? I wouldn't, because I hate the reality of game piracy. But I can see both sides, and do not condemn him should he decide to go.

Turkish, you asked for opinions. You sure got'em. :p

Back before the 360 came out, I developing a friendship with someone at work, a fellow gamer. Turns out he had a modded Xbox 1 with an epic hard drive and nearly every released game on it. I learned of this when he invited me to come over and check it out.

We are no longer friends.

This is what I figured.

As I said though, I know myself, and If I'm there with a copy in front of me I'll want to play the SP. And I've already organised 2 days off to absolutely rape through the campaign, so I don't want to ruin that.

So there's a good chance I wont go at all. It's not like he lives next door to me anyway. It's an effort to get there and I'm a lazy person.

But I was given the option, and no one here could honestly admit it wouldn't be tempting.

Sure did. Thanks. I feel bad now. Oh well, I think I'll keep it to myself now regardless of the outcome. I'll see you online anyway on the 14th.

I have a mate with a JTagged console, the same dude that let me play Sonic 4 early, and he has Reach.

Should I spoil it for myself? Or resist.

Not sure what to do.

Kick him in the junk, IMO.

Semantics are so much fun! Let's have a semantics party.

And "GAF hates copying" is about all that needed to be said on the subject. Why people ask opinions on this stuff is beyond me. Do you need your fun legitimized or something?

Wow......this is definately rooting out those who aren't against video game piracy. Don't deny it, you're not using any of the arguements that actual pirates haven't used.

Really? If your friend had a pirated version of Halo Reach on his 360 and offered you to play it, you wouldn't? I'm buying the Legendary edition the first day it comes out, but if presented the option I would play it early on a friend's 360. I wouldn't pirate it myself or purchase a pirated copy but I don't really see the harm in playing it at a friend's house.

Basically this argument of piracy is moot because 99.9% of everyone on the internet has pirated something at some point. Ye without sin cast the first stone.

Dear Abusive Teammate,

The reason your team 'suck so bad' is because you came into the game with your shitty complaining attitude and whined about their performance from the bat. You caused them to be annoyed and disinterested in the victory because it would have meant something to you to win. Your asinine insults and truculent whining piss guaranteed we would not only take the loss just to hurt you, but we never once tried to help you when you were being punked ruthlessly by the lead Shawshankers from the opposing team. In short, I am glad they rectally flushed you and I am happy knowing that almost every experience you have in life is frustrating and difficult and that you will never realize it's YOU not them.

On that note, the past week has also 'rooted out' a bunch of people who are really devoted to towing the company line. After months of straining for clues it was pretty strange to suddenly hear all these cries of 'no spoilers I only wanna see what bungie shows me' to the point of not wanting to know map counts and armor options. Also the amount of seemingly personal rage and hate directed at the modders over the fact that Reach leaked - which in of itself was unsurprising if not expected - came off as fairly sycophantic to the publishers as well.

Maybe it's the close relationship GAF and the industry have, with so many members of Bungie and 343 posting regularly here that causes the fan group to sort of fall in line with the 'official' policies. Good job community directors!

This is just something I've observed personally after quite a few years of posting at less mainstream communities. NeoGAF is uniquely straight laced.
