Halo Reach E3 Trailer [M-CONF]

Sorry if it's a little off topic, but I just had to post this. A fellow JTV streamer started a thread on the MLG forums...

http://www.mlgpro.com/forum/showthread.php?t=320578

Story is that there's a disabled teen(?) on JTV who streams. He's a huge Halo and MLG fan. Has been to an event and everything. The fellow JTV streamer discovered this and started a thread asking for pros to come play with the kid and make his day. They responded in a really amazing way. They're both streaming right now. It's a great story.

http://www.justin.tv/sicknehss(Guy who set it up)

http://www.justin.tv/lilopie123#(This is the disabled kid's stream)

They're trying to get TSquared (his favorite player) on to play with him. Pros that have signed up to play are, Enable, Flamesword, Assault, Ghostayame just to name a few. They're playing the Coach Small of Active Rush and Soldier 187 of Str8 Rippin.

Wow, that's great of them to do that for the guy.

I finally played Halo 3 again a couple of days ago (haven't played in about 5 months). I am so scrubby now. All of that SSFIV drained me of my sklls. I still have the smarts, but my movement and aim is just really sloppy.

Firefight video is indeed beautiful stuff.

Those gold elites look so fucking badass.

I also just beat ODST in 2 player legendary co-op today in a single sitting lasting just under 5 hours. I'm salivating for some Reach right now.

Halo Waypoint ftw again! :D Full match on other map too please?

Please tell me these buildings are unfinished though. Everything is all white and looks so plain and flat.

Finished game is finished. Game was content complete back in April. Everything you see is final, or so close as to be unable to tell the difference.

I was looking around on HBO's forums and came across this.

Remember the list that came out during the Beta that detailed "hidden" data found buried in the Beta files? Well, looks like a modder managed to find some audio to go along with some of that content.

This video, obviously from a hacked and modded Beta source, has the announcer call out during the firing of weapons and other actions.

None of the information is new, as these were found in the previously leaked list, but does point to giving the list partial credability.

Nothing is confirmed from the video, audio samples can be discarded and it's doubtful we'll know for certain if any of this content is included until the game ships.

It's safe to assume our render minutes that we have now carry over into Reach, right? I'm about to purchase some more. Also, I'm enjoying some Halo3. It seems like a lot of the better players have taken a break, because I keep winning games :lol Found the beginning of this multi-team game pretty humorous. The green team didn't even check to see if I was there. In summary, be sure to always check your spawn points ;)

And....what do you guys think tomorrow's BWU will be about? Hopefully I've got the day right this time lol.

Hey You said:
Did anyone else stop to think that since Reach is packed with so much awesome, Microsoft might charge more than the regular $60/whatever price in your country?
Prices were announced already, though.

Small: $60
Medium: $80
WTF: $150

Though it is kinda crazy what they're packing into the game. I've got everything known worked into a draft of the OP for the official thread, and it's already longer than the Halo 3 OP. And that's with integrating some images to reduce text. And to think we need more on Forge, bungie.net, game types, weapons, armor abilities, vehicles and MP/Firefight maps. And whatever else they're cramming in.

There would be riots and pitchforks on fire if that happened.

I'll definitely take a medium. mmm

Can't find the right place to put this, as the old Halo 3 topic is no longer around but I think with Reach this has particular relevance.

ATLAS Community Map Variant Submission Analysis

  • 411 Map submissions for Sandbox.
  • 91 Map submissions for Foundry.
  • 97 Map submissions for any Halo 3 map other than Foundry or Sandbox.
  • Only 599 discernable map submissions were made to the ATLAS group
  • A huge number of map submissions did not meet even the tiniest part of the minimum submission requirements
  • Comments from Bungie had little relevance as whether a map was accepted or not
  • Maps which were frequently reported to have construction errors were rarely pulled for update
  • ATLAS members were rarely given any indication as to whether their maps were being considered
  • Very little real collaboration occurred between Bungie and the bulk of map authors.
  • Many map authors did little to help the other members.

It doesn't make for great reading. It's hard to pin the fault on the failure of ATLAS to live up to certain expectations on either Bungie staff or the community - they both seem responsible for equally important failings. =\

I hope, in light of the future announcement of Forge 2.0, we get another go at ATLAS and hopefully some of the shortcomings, on both sides, can be addressed.

I like most of Deep's recommendations:
Recommendations
1. Map submissions should be an automated process using web forms of some type. Successful submissions generate a membership automatically thus eliminating much of the chafe.
2. Map authors should be informed if their map is being considered for a playlist to prevent repeated updating without cause.
3. Map authors should be informed if their map is not being considered for a playlist with some indication as to why.
4. Bungie should improve its Forge guides with special emphasis on gametype objects and spawning.
5. All cooperative and helpful comments from Bungie should be pinned topics that are easy to find no matter when a member joined.
6. Bungie should keep all ATLAS group members informed of related activities directly and in one location.
7. Never make the Internet a promise you can’t keep.
8. Bungie could submit their map requirements to Forging-centric sites. Those sites could vet maps before submission to Bungie. If a site fails to properly vet maps then they lose their special status, what ever that might be.
9. Map authors could be used as assets for quality control if organized and informed properly.
10. Bungie should provide matchmaking statistics for successful ATLAS maps.
But I especially disagree with #8 (and I'm certain Shishka does as well). To be honest, most if not all of the Forge-centric sites I'm aware of had a bunch of e-drama over what little perceived power they had. IMO, the only people with any power to vet maps should be Bungie, but people who had maps accepted into playlists should have their opinions weighted more heavily for obvious reasons. Or, if not that, they ability to lock threads for maps which did not meet minimum requirements. Honestly, if Shishka had had a moderator, the spam attack would have been halted much, much soon.

There is also a new post-ZBR post on Noble Actual

Responsibility for equally important failings =/= equally responsibility for overall failings

For example, it's the community's fault for not properly utilizing the ATLAS system in greater numbers and also for continuously submitting many numbers of maps, repeatedly, that didn't even follow the basic guidelines.

Bungie is at fault for not providing enough feedback to satisfy those that participated and also failed to properly communicate to standard expected or wanted by the map makers.

Just examples, those are equally important failings on both sides, but (from my own observations) I believe there's more needed to be done on Bungie's side of things versus the communities'.

Generally speaking ATLAS needs more Bungie or Bungie sided staff, folks that have the sole responsibility of managing the particular ATLAS sub community alone. It's a demanding position and will probably be more so with Reach - it needs a human's full attention.

*Not that I'm trying to put blame on specifics, nor am I going to go on at length about the issue. And just in my, limited, opinion.

Why does it seem like every time I boot this game up on a weekend the Double XP is either Griffball or Living Dead? My God, some variety would be nice. The playlists need to be trimmed as well, there are countless lists that stay under or around 1K people.

It was Team Throwback last weekend.

I was really wanting to play some living dead this weekend so that got me excited. Last weekend was Team Throwback. I loves me some grifball too! :P I was actually hoping it would be either a toss up between living dead and griffball so I'm glad I got one of them at least. :D

Like MLG FFA. According to foruns, people want it. The numbers tell a different story.

Atlas opened up around November 2008 and was locked around August 2009, less than a year (9 months) later due to a spammer. The group has remained locked ever since. Even if more people wanted to participate they couldn't.

Dani said:

While you admit Bungie's faults in the matter I still think you severely underestimate their role.

The lack of feedback in Atlas was laughable. They sent one lone employee to manage the entire group and even then it was far from his top priority. The amount of submissions initially were quite healthy and it wasn't until everyone began to see how futile their efforts were, that the submissions slowed and eventually stopped. Unlike other games with map editors Halo doesn't have a custom lobby search. If map creators wanted to enjoy the fruits of the effort they had to gather others to play them or hope that other little communities got a hold of them to play, otherwise, it was pretty much all for nothing. Bungie's choice to restrict online searches to MM only makes them responsible for seeing these creations reach the masses.

Forgers were lucky to even get a single response for Bungie for their submission, and if Shishka happened to reply even once to say "you have an overlapping spawn in red base" chances were you'd never hear from him again. There were a handful of maps that made it into MM proper, but a sizable group were able to get into special limited-time playlists. This playlist was handled so poorly nothing was gained from it other than a few forger's pride of seeing their maps every once and a while and a little variety every other month. It was updated a total of 3 times and it's veto data was never used to move any of the maps from that playlist to MM proper nor remove the terrible maps out of the playlist.

There was little to no incentive for most people to go through the submission process, the fact that so many did for as long as they did is testament to the community's desire to see their map and others' enjoyed in MM. Sure there are a ton of idiots on Bnet and improper submissions/feedback is to be expect, but to blame the community for Atlas's failings in the least is utterly ridiculous. Atlas lived and died on how much resources Bungie wanted to provide it. Yes, they didn't owe anyone anything, they never had to create forge or Atlas in the first place and their community involvement would still be leagues beyond their competitors, but that doesn't change how much untapped potential Atlas had and why/how Bungie failed.

The great majority of the Halo playbase has been trimmed down to borderline retards who'd much rather play Griffball or Living Dead than anything else.

I think you summed up the general feelings that many folks got that participated in and followed ATLAS have, Easy.

I guess I don't want to say much about it as it's not my place to discuss it as I shelved any of my own personal plans to participate in it for my own reasons.

I just hope ATLAS is included in Bungie's plans for Reach's post release support and, whatever lessons there are, have been learnt going forward with it. I fully agree with you about there being, still, untapped potential with ATLAS.

Yes, that's the part I intended to end my post with but forgot. I've said it before but no matter how fuck-awesome Reach's map editor is, it'll still depend on how Bungie handles the integration into MM. It's hard for me to believe that Bungie will dump a ton of time into creating a great editor just to limit it to custom games. If I had to guess I'd say Reach's map editor will be awesome and content will eventually find its way to MM to a greater extent. It's just that any description of Atlas and community content integration in Halo 3 other than a huge disappointment on Bungie's part is just plain wrong.

Haha yup. When MLG FFA was added, I was thrilled. I played around 75 games I think, got a 42 or 43 and stopped. Part of it may be that FFA isnt all that great in Halo 3. Also, in Halo 2 of you played mlg ffa, it was in custom games with your friends. For the h3 playlist, you gotta go in alone. It's just more fun playing with friemds in 4v4.

Think there was ~350 people in Snipers last night :(

As for ATLAS, hopefully it'll be seen as a meaty and important enough role that it'll be part of someone's official job description. If not commited to like that, it becomes too easy for people to be re-assigned to a new task deemed more important to their actual job.

bored bored bored. was messing around with some of the renders on bungie.net, because I wanted to dink around in photoshop some more. Really, all I did was cut the models out and paste them against a cool background found on the internets (haha that's all i ever do I'm so talented :lol ). I've got to get the blurriness eliminated, somehow.

I personally blame it on Heretic, I hate that map for ffa and its the sole reason I wont play the playlist. :lol

On another note, I REALLY wish Social Slayer was 4v4, im using Mythic to get my social 4v4 slayer fix, but the playlist gets a bit boring when your restricted to the same few maps (I LOVE Citadel now though, that map needs more recognition). and as much as everyone will say "Just go play Team Slayer", im not putting my rank on the line playing it solo, with the huge potential to get derankers and afk'ers on my team.

Seriously the smaller maps are just too chaotic to be fun 5v5, we have BTB and Squad battle for the larger numbers so 5v5 Social Slayer seems a little redundant, we all know 4v4 is Halo at its best
maybe?
(unless your in a Banshee BTB) :D .

sorry for posting this twice, but this version might look better as a desktop background. And I couldn't justify adding more cowbell zeouterlimits ;)

It's a cowbell, that's all the justification needed!

Actually looking at it, has there been any mention of Engineers in Reach?

lol yeah. I almost didn't include the brute at all(I'm not a huge fan) So he gets his small spotlight off to the side. But that would make an awesome skull... mini-brutes or varmints skull.

Wasn't there an out-of-focus shot in one of the vidocs that looked identical to an engineer sitting idle? I'm pretty sure I remember the speculation. Regardless, that's hardly a confirmation.

There was a shot of one in a vidoc, yes. In this vidoc.

Edit:
Here

Btw, I noticed this structure
2w2r1mp.jpg

It looks a lot like the forerunner structure in Halo 2's last level, when Sgt. Johnson gets in the Scarab. Or even in Halo CE's The Silent Cartographer, also a forerunner structure. Probably doesn't mean anything since that's just a test scenario, but you never know.

It basically comes down to this. For ATLAS to work Bungie needs more than just Shishka managing it. It's obvious that he didn't/couldn't spend the time needed for the group to work smoothly and correctly. What they need is another person whose entire job is to manage community content for it to work properly.
Hey Bungie feel free to pm me. I need a new job

Problems with ATLAS:

- Someone from bnet made Colonaide
- Someone from Bungie put Colonaide up on MM

QED Problems from both sides :p

I joke, I joke :p

I attribute most issues with Atlas to the fact that it, like the map creation tools in Foundry and Sandbox, were an after the fact addition to the game. I think Shishka did a pretty good job with an incredibly difficult proposition: set up a way to filter maps from millions of players into a handful that could hit matchmaking. Given limited resources and no in-place pipeline to assist him, I thought it went pretty well overall. The problems were problems that stemmed from the fact that Forge shipped as a tool that was not intended to do what we ended up using it for, and the only way to find good content was to sift through manually in Atlus.

Like most things in Reach, I'm expecting the process to change. I think we'll probably see a better set of tools for map creation (at the least, a set of Sandbox type templates), and a pipeline built into the game/bungie.net for the community to filter content into matchmaking (with Bungie testing maps when selecting what to roll out at the end of the process) without resorting to brute force forum sifting.

Okay, this is way frickin' late, because I posted a note yesterday that I couldn't read Ghal's Twitter list and then headed out to my daughter's graduation... just getting back to GAF now.

I realized that I'd already seen a list of Bungie employee Twitter feeds compiled - so I knew it had to be done. I did some searching on the HBO forum, and came up with Andrew Davis' list:

http://twitter.com/agdtinman/bungie

I compared that syntax to Ghal's list, and tried this, instead:

http://twitter.com/GhaleonEB/bungie

Works fine for non-Twitter members. :D

They seem to be not-completely-overlapping, so if you want a lot of Bungie-related Twitter feeds, check 'em both.
Sweet. I updated my list to be best of breed. :D

I still can't figure out why one lets you view it, but mind doesn't. I've checked both the list and overall profile settings to make sure they're both set to public, and they are. Grrrr.

To be honest, I dont think user made maps are the best thing for matchmaking its very rare for a user made map to actually even play well, the gameplay flow is usually pretty bad, plus they never exactly look great.

I would rather play the Pit, then play the vast majority of user made maps, so im glad Shishka was really conservative with Atlas, at the end of the day if he opened the floodgates, getting a good map online might be horrible I think he handled it well personally.
