Halo Reach E3 Trailer [M-CONF]

Is it still ranked? Because if it is, it's impossible to find a game.
It's still ranked, and it's impossible to find a FUN game - I'm a 16 in there, and I can't remember the last time I went in and DIDN'T play against a team of generals. (I understand that if you're above a 30, you can't find a game at all - but it's bad for EVERYONE, not just high-ranking folks.)

I can imagine you spraying a can of this around your house and suddenly getting the idea for the shop.. :lol
I keep spiders in the house so i have no need for sprays. :D

It was easy to move a few pixels around to turn 'Roach' into 'Reach'.

Sounds about right. :lol Making it unranked might at least make the population go up a bit. (probably not, people don't enjoy objective games anymore, they just want to swing a hammer and boost in Grifball. :| )

I really hoped that it being a double exp would draw more people into it but out of the 4 games I played I only had one good one. With the last game being against generals and boosters who destroyed me. I didn't go back for the rest of weekend :/

So I rebought ODST today :D

Anyone wanna play H3 MP tonight? Or some Firefight?

If you don't mind getting hit with a ghost a few times, we can get some 4 man firefight going on this weekend

Agreed!

Why does it seem like every time I boot this game up on a weekend the Double XP is either Griffball or Living Dead? My God, some variety would be nice. The playlists need to be trimmed as well, there are countless lists that stay under or around 1K people.
I suggest we get more Team Control. Everybody loves that.

As for ATLAS/community, getting the priorities was a bigger hassle than anything else. I had my Sandbox ground based map, Access, all set and ready, but films were hard to come by. To get films, you needed eight players with set schedules and specific game-types which were suited to Halo 3 style MM gametypes. And even if you did send it, there was always a chance of it being denied.

I felt it was a big failure because of it was a Bungie.net Group. It should be based off a website to capture a bigger audience. Maybe "BungieATLAS.com", or something alike. I don't necessarily agree the community is at as much fault as the group itself was for the failure. ForgeHub and many other Bungie.net Groups often tried to capture films and attain play dates.

Also, I was one of those guys who really wished equipment was in ODST, especially for Firefight. Being able to toss down a bubble shield in the middle of the carnage would have been wonderful. I lit up like a Christmas tree when I saw that bubble drop down in the G4 Reach footage. Spartans + AA + Firefight + customization = heaven.

Me too, I think they're really smart bringing back a version of the Bubble Shield. It'll be perfect for Firefight and Campaign co-op (assuming it's in campaign somewhere).

I personally blame it on Heretic, I hate that map for ffa and its the sole reason I wont play the playlist. :lol

Uhhhhhhhh what?

MLG FFA = Heretic/Midship
Heretic/Midship = MLG FFA

What? Why? The techno music in the trailer was a bad call; I don't really like it. I remember, in "The Arbiter," when you grab the Banshee to follow the Heretic Leader, you hear the Incubus music playing. Not a fan.

I can say that this is the only thing I've heard that's disappointed me post-beta. Give me all classical all the time.

Eh. Every Halo game has had a few out there tracks. I still remember being surprised when playing the original Halo for the first time, heading back to the surface after reaching the Cartographer, when a wailing guitar solo breaks out. It was such a contrast with the rest of the orchestral score...but it worked. Halo 2 had the guitar sections (which I liked), Halo 3 toned it down, ODST had smoky sax and heavy guitar riffs. I'm used to this kind of texture from Marty, and am all for it.

That said, I don't care for this particular track at all. But knowing Marty, the Reach score is going to be just fine (the intro music to the clip, plus the Beta title music, say 'hi').

fuck i almost got you before your edit. :lol Techno is amazing when done right. I think Marty could do it. He's done it before!

Well, that demo intro music was one of the best things I've ever heard from Marty. We're just hoping most of the music will sound like that.
Let's not forget the Beta title screen music, or the music from the cinematic trailer. We've heard a lot of music from Reach, only one track of which was not in the classic Halo style. A proportion which is, actually, the classic Halo style.

I agree with the Midship part, but for some reason Heretic doesnt seem to play aswell for me, not sure why but I just dont enjoy it on FFA, it seems more clunky and maybe its just me but I dont remember the spawns dictating play as much on Midship.

I think the upbeat tone in that music is a total 180 from where ODST's smokey sax in terms of what it wanted the player to feel. Think about it. The jazz was slow and sombre. You felt somewhat alone (because you don't listen to jazz with friends amirite?). Look to Reach. You've got this lively tempo with a beat that can only be popular with the mass populus of Reach. What would Kat listen to after a debrief to party with the other Spartans? Seeeee?

One thing I really liked about ODST's score is the variety. You have the moody jazz pieces for when you're exploring the city, but you have some really rousing stuff, especially for the finale. Going from H3 to ODST was what really showcased Marty's versatility as a composer for me.

I've liked the Reach stuff I've heard so far, but once the heavy drums started in the music in the recent trailers, it really didn't work for me.

Firefight is going to be 4-5x more fun as a Spartan than as an ODST.

The mere fact that we have shields instead of stamina, and the lack of Black Eye skull automatically means Firefight would be much better, even if nothing else changed.

Red-tint + Black Eye was not a good combination for the eyes.

i didn't like the rocking stuff from the first trailer, nor did I like this techno-ish stuff.
Though I did love that stuff from the first MP trailer, and that wasn't classic marty stuff either.

I'll wait and see but so far Reach music has been strikes and gutters for me.

You only need watch the E3 2010 SP demonstration when Noble 6 looks up at the Saber for the first time. Awesome music there. Classic Marty.

In the beginning of the Beachhead gameplay vid it says specifically "Spartans" along "Firefight". Are they just being consistent with the competitive multiplayer side of things, or is there more to this, something they haven't announced? Like Firefight with Elites against UNSC or ODST:s against Covies? Mnaah.

Whoa. I didn't notice that before.

From right to left, we have the available Load Outs, the Gametype and description, and which side the players are on. It doesnt make sense to include that last one if it's the same every time.

Maybe my idea to let some players play alongside the Covenant as Elites wasn't just crazy speculation.

I dunno if it would be very fun playing as Covenant against UNSC. There wouldn't be a lot of variety in terms of different enemies to fight. It also would seem weird to be killing marines/Spartans. I think they are just being consistent with the multiplayer side of things.

Yeah, I was thinking the same. There could be regular marines with different weapons, ODSTs with different weapons and Spartans with different weapons and armor abilites. Not too much variety there. Of course there could be something else they haven't announced but is related to this. Forerunners? Too much speculation!

It's probably the exact same code as in multiplayer where it is useful to tell you what side you're on. So whilst it's kind of redundant in Firefight, it's not worth the effort to code in a specific exception for such a trivial thing.

/speculation

The new "Beast" mode in Gears 3 is similar to this. For Reach you could fight against Marines, various Spartans with different abilities and positions, ODSTs, and whatever else Bungie may or may not come up with. Maybe they could have Spartan IIIs and Spartan IIs? Different Spartans like Flamethrower Spartans could add in variety:

But really, who wouldn't want to be a suicide bomber grunt?

Nah you're right, they're a little different. I don't know what it is but FFA in Halo 3 is not like it was in Halo 2. Weird. Maybe it was the frag starts in Halo 2 that made it awesome, I don't know.

Maybe I'm reading into things, but In the first seconds of this firefight video It says 'SPARTANS' near the center of the screen. It also uses the Voice actor that was in Generator Defense.

Huge assumption, but what if you could play firefight as the elites. It will say 'ELITES', and it used the Elite voice actor from Generator Defense?

Edit: Thanks to Kibbles for putting the Screenshot right above my post. :lol

I posted this on page 20, someone quoted me, and then you quoted him! And you've never noticed before?! :lol

Well, as I have said before, it is confirmed that there is such thing as a Heretic Elite so I'd say, given some context, we might find ourselves as a bunch of heretics holding up a big floating gas station in a big orange fog... :p

I had not read your post, just the one I was responding to, so I missed your speculation. My apologies. Good grief, relax!
