Halo Reach E3 Trailer [M-CONF]

I doubt I'll get an answer, but what I have I missed for the past 4 days while I've been without power? Anything new announced by Bungie or Microsoft? I'm reading through the Halo 4 being considered thread, but since this is kinda the main one for now I don't want to be too far behind.

Nothing official since E3 to be honest except for some articles and stuff, check back in 7 days for Bungie day.

same here.
It is probably easier for keeping up with things to not have one thread moving at break neck speeds.

Joseph Tung was asked if there would be more than 4 players in firefight and Joseph smiled and had to give a no comment. This suggests that there will be. I think that's about the only thing.

True, though at this rate we'll have a dozen or more before release; I think it will be better for discussion overall though. It will stay more focused.

Remember how we had a feature reveal every week for five weeks or so leading up to the Beta? The two months leading up to Reach's release are going to make that look like a trickle of information. We've got entire feature suites yet to be revealed, in addition to all the maps, vehicles, gametypes and other content. I suspect Bungie Day will be a bit of a kick off for the drum beat building toward launch.

I don't think everyone was in sync on what features were being announced. Brian specifically said Firefight is a four-player co-op mode in several interviews.

Sort of like how, regarding the space combat, we had one video where someone dodged the question about it showing up in other modes; one where a MS rep seemed to imply it (the one that mentioned Aerospace a few pages back); and the Gamespot video where someone from Bungie specifically states space combat is only in that one mission of campaign, and is not featured in MP at all.

I was kind of surpirsed that Firefight was four players given the six we had for NT1, but I figured they were either testing to see if six would work out and it didn't, or the extra two was the "stressed network conditions" part of the gametype description. Regardless, I'm not counting on Firefight having more than four players.

I didn't follow Reach, but I played (and loved) the Beta. One thing I couldn't grasp though, is how a left-handed person (read: me) couldn't change any settings but the trigger. Has there been a word on the control schemes?

I guess not..
 
Hmm, Im enjoying some Halo Waypoint right now. LTTP! If you click on the archives you can see all kinds of goodness. Just watched an old episode of The Spartan Life with guest Louis Wu. Before that, watched some Halo 2 map nostalgia on Headlong. Now I'm re-watching the interview with Lars about Firefight. I want my mind to be blown!!!!!!!

BTW... 1 Week until 7/7/10

Just watched. Good stuff. Wish Reach came out July 14th instead of September 14th. Who was the hip hop guy? He was cracking me up. Cheers to togetherness and brotherhood in Firefight. Joseph Tung is becoming my new favorite Bungie person. He is so even keel. He can get really excited, but his voice is always laid back. And good to see Dan Hsu. Missing his presence at 1up.com.

I'm guessing 8 players, Elites vs Spartans, and of course the other covenant on the Elite side. It would be ridiculously awesome if you can play as Brutes though. Bungle is going all out for this game... Campaign will be insane I'm sure....:D :D I'm more excited for it than anything!

Honestly if it's any more than 4 players Bungie had better make sure their net code is up to scratch, Generator defense was torturous for me, I was planning the next move I would make whenever the game would let me. :lol

Same goes for Halo 3 & ODST co-op and firefight but not to the same degree thankfully.
 
I doubt very much we'll see 8 players, at least in matchmaking. The game needs to be extremely strict about who you get matched with, and making that number higher will dramatically increase the number of games that are laggy. It only takes one to ruin the game.

The problem isn't the netcode, it's players having bad connections. You can compensate for it in multiplayer, because it's asynchronous. You get weird stuff happening or shots not counting, but the game will carry on. You can't do that in campaign because of the AI. If stuff goes missing, it's got to be sent again.

Bungie have been able to improve the netcode, both by matching players up far better, and by making the game send far less data. But it gets to the point where there's nothing else they can do. If the game sends the minimum amount needed and your ISP does a crappy job and loses part of it, then that's not Bungie's fault or the netcode's fault.

My connection isn't the greatest but Generator Defense was fine for me past the first day, simply because I have very little packet loss. And that's the essential thing.

I don't enjoy having to go on the internet to try to decipher what I've read in the game. It's terrible story presentation, and it's why Bungie should lean more towards ODST's story presentation.

I agree with this. I've talked to a few people on here who somehow understood what was happening as they read the Terminals in the game, but personally I didn't have a clue. Sadie's story in ODST was at least understandable and enjoyable as-is without having to go look up what the heck they were talking about.

3 vs. 3 Generator Defense. I'm going with 6 MAX firefight.

Exactly! Sadie's Story is borderline perfect. I would not have ever realised there were references to Dante's Inferno but alas the story was relatively simple and really focused on the details. The hectic ambience as the people struggle to flee the city from the vuvuzela (plasma) wielding World Cup supporters (Covenant), the static as virgil is getting damaged, etc. Emphasis was on all the right aspects and it meant I had a really good story being told in a way that (when you watched them rather than tap RB to play it during the campaign) wasn't too intrusive.

my 2 cents. i hated it. i thought they were incredibly cheesy and didnt fit the mood established by odst or the rest of the halo series.

i like the idea of audio logs, and even prefer them to halo 3's terminals, but sadie was lame.

When every single voice actor in an audiolog series is in contention for the worst actor in Halo, a series not exactly known for its stirring performances, you know you have a problem.

I'm supportive, but not blind, I already knew we would crash and burn with Queiroz' awful management and passionless team. Can't wait for him to gtfo. Thankfully it was just by one goal, and vs a huge title contender like Spain. Felt really bad for Eduardo and Coentrao though.

That and Firefight Voice is now Announcer Voice. Also the Spartans stance is a bit different. (For the better IMO) The pic looks legit though. And I'm hoping its real. :D

There ya have it folks. Also when you look at the Halo Wars Spartan's Belt, it is clearly different from the BWU pics. And in the off screen shot, theres no choice to change belts. That should have been a clue to me right there. Also I feel like 'Hands' and "Feet" aren't nearly as cool as Gauntlets and Grieves.

I guess I jumped the gun a little bit. :lol
