Halo Reach Off Screen Images

I am impressed that people are seeing significant differences in those screens....the quality is piss poor, but if somebody told me these were from 3, I wouldn't have anyway to say otherwise.

Regardless, this wasn't meant for public consumption, so no judgement should be passed until it is properly revealed
It should be clear to anyone who's seen Halo 3, that these aren't from Halo 3.

Isn't Reach supposed to be a prequel? Why do the weapons look more advanced?

The BR looks like a predecessor to the one we know from Halo 3. But yes, I was kinda thinking the same thing when I saw the Spartan Laser.

God damnit. I know this. I've read the books, the comics and still I make a mistake like that.:(

Oh, at least I think the screens show potential.

Bungie are doing take-home netcode tests. Make sense that'd involve a portion of MS test.
Someone (Bungie or MS) along the way messed up big time, whether they put up the pics or they let someone they know take pics/left alone with Reach.

New engine perhaps, but if juding by the screens and gameplay descriptions it's the same first-person game we've gotten the past 3 times. Thought this was going to be something totally new, but Bungie is still being Bungie.

Then again, Halo used to be a 3rd person shooter for PC (an awesome looking one at that), so maybe there's some hope.

Why would you say something like that? We pretty much know absolutely NOTHING about the gameplay. Why do people continue to make such stupid assumptions like this?

Based on the OPs-post and Bungies history?
Let's just see how stupid of an assumption it is when the game is properly revealed.

What gameplay description? We know nothing of gameplay. At all. And how do a few stills of someone standing still, holding a gun, tell you anything about a game?

Oh shit, I hear there may be things that require you to shoot. FUCK THIS SAME GAME BULLSHIT!

You're probably right, but I wouldn't go there at this point.

Oh, you mean these details?

Gameplay Details:

Campaign
Elites - Better than monkeys!
Privacy - potential drop in, drop out co-op multiplayer

New Carbine
new carbine that shoots needles, and explodes when 3 needles are hit

BR

it is a one shot battle rifle with 12 rounds, pretty powerful and effective long range.

Perks

This is what the HUD looks like. In the bottom left, you can see your squadmates health and names.
Right above the radar shows what perks you are carrying. When I played there were 3 perks-sprinting, cloaking, and halogram.
The sprinting makes you run when you hold LB,
cloaking makes you invisible (when you cloak your radar jams and you can't really hear anything around you).
The halogram creates a hologram of yourself, so enemies will shoot at both.

Wow, that really tells us a lot...

Weapons:
New Needler-based Heavy Weapon - Looks like a Covenant version of the Spartan Laser!
BR - It's back with a new look!
AR - Same old, MLG favourite!
Needler - Now with more pink!
Laser - Red eye again!

Just getting a deja vu that's all.
But I could very well be proven wrong, which is why I added that last sentence in my post that you might have missed in all your eager to click the quote button.

Edit: People are too hasty in all their fanboy rage to actually interept the meaning of a post so I'm not gonna bother.

We didn't miss that. It just makes no sense to jump to the conclusions you did based on leaked screenshots that tell us almost nothing.

Huh...

Halo 3 Spartan Laser polycount is 2511. If they start doing what some other game studios do with their first person weapon models(only model the parts that you'll actually see in first person), then they're saving quit a bit, and can put more detail into what you see. All the extra little details in the Reach Splaser is probably only an additional 500-1000 polys. Really not that much of a difference.

And on top of that, IF Campaign and Multiplayer are on separate discs, they have far more space for larger textures, and mesh data.

So, Halo 3 Engine could handle the models, yes, but it wouldn't be practical, especially considering those same models would have to be used in Halo 3 multiplayer.

I just realized they already started doing this with some weapons in Halo 3...

I'm going to save this thread for the day the Halo Reach official thread is up and running and post alpha game play is shown. Everyone who's saying it's just another Halo that we're tired of are going to eat their own fecal matter in disgust of their past assumptions.

The environments are clearly faaar from finished or just placeholders. The stuff that looks somewhat done...meaning the weapons, looks great imo. Overall the colors look more realistic, i like that :)
They are cheap offscreen pics though, so it could look totaly different on real screenshots.

Yes, finally. Always wanted the battle rifle to be like it was in the Halo 2 E3 demo :D

that texture that seems to bother everyone doesn't look to be blurry or particularly bad per se, it just seems to be super stretched to cover a polygonal model that is just too big.
that's probably the main reason one would think it's a placeholder, it's just not ment to be there and used instead of having an untextured surface in the middle of the level, even if it's still wip.

:)

Reach is like Earth's equivalent in the Halo universe. It's a very important planet and I imagine, the story would go that many new weapons were being developed on Reach that weren't in widespread USNC circulation yet.

Oh why did you have to mention Linda?

Where did Halsey take her? What did she know?..... Halp.

You're thinking about Kelly. Dr. Halsey didn't take Linda anywhere. Also, your answers lie within Ghosts of Onyx.

Sorry yeah...

But my answers don't.... i want to know what happened after onyx... it's possible a huge paradox exists in time and they actually stepped back and became the forerunners in the first place.

it would explain why cortana has this uncanny sense of things in the books. sort of.

Halo Reach: Tom Morello edition

This is brilliant. They can save manufacturing costs on helmets too by simply visiting Walmarts, Best Buys, EBs and Sears' around the country and picking up the thousands of unsold ones from Halo 3 that I see littered all over gaming stores. Limited my ass :lol

Welcome to the world of playing sequels for any franchise. If you don't like it, you need to find a new hobby.

There are more cries about trolling than there actually is any. Predictably from a certain avatar'd set of users.

I predict it'll be a long time before we see proper Reach screenshots now, with Bungie seeing the reaction to these. At least it makes a change to the Halo 2 and 3 first showings that turned out to be smoke and mirrors bullshit way above what the actual release would be capable of.

Seriously? Because I read all the posts and this thread IS full of trolls.

And Bungie won't show us a thing 'til christmas. They love keeping everything in a secret. So even though these pictures got out, they'll just ignore it.

What you're reading is a Halo thread that isn't filled with people masturbating to Battle Rifle jokes. Not trolling, just not everyone is as enthusiastic about "yet another Halo" as a certain subset. Yeah theres the occasional troll, but nothing that warrants the pathetic sobbing and calling for bans thats been on show here in this thread.

Re-read first pages.
People obviously came into this thread to leave a post that wouldn't contribute at all to the topic.

"Aw another halo?"
"same engine"

Not going to discuss it anymore though. Seems to have calmed down.

It's not going to be that long at all if you have read some there actual comments. This ain't going to change a thing and yea there are some people that deserve some perms in here because they simply don't troll in here they troll everywhere which is completely different. Your arguments are getting pretty tiresome at this point.

Ok, I admit I have no idea what the Tom Morello MEME is, but Im pretty sure there is no way it could be funny enough for the entire thread to be ruined by it.

You know your whole second paragraph there is general Halo troll right?

Here's to hoping the animation in this game is vastly improved, the talk of Bungie finally using motion capture for this game has me cautiously optimistic.

Also it'd be nice to get a Halo game where the humans didn't look like they had a horrible skin condition.

Well they have a nice excuse to throw in zany shit, because of the fate of Reach. They could have test sites and new developments there without it being out of place with the timeline.

I actually like their animation, but you're right mo cap would definitely look better
This has not been confirmed, right?

Bungie held take-home playtests last week, where tons of employees took a dev kit home for feedback and to test the net code over PartnerNet on home connections. My guess: One of the participants has a friend over to show him teh sweet new Halos. "Friend" snaps cell phone pics while he's over. And here we are.

I peronsonally don't think you're trolling. You want Halo to undergo a dramatic change. You don't want 'Halo with changes & improvements', you want a new Halo.
That'll probably be whatever 343 does.
The problem is, for those interested, when Bungie announced Halo: Reach and said it was an fps, most of us interested got a vague idea as to what it would be. A H1-to-H2 level change. Graphics, scope, gameplay additions, continued multiplayer growth (there appears to be a class/squad system).
Frankly, I think your complaints are fine, some of us disagree with your expectations, but I understand them.

As for the calling of bans, people just literally just decrying the very series in 2 words, surely you'd agree that's not on?

The guy who originally got the credit for leaking the pictures was "ToM MoreLLO" from the MLG forums. In order to "prove" it was his leak, he put the pictures in MS Paint and wrote his name all over them.

I don't think it's too weird for the Spartan Laser to look 'more advanced' or whatever. Aren't prototypes often more advanced than the final model? Look at concept cars...they have to take stuff out to put them into production. I guess someone looked at the Spartan Laser and was like 'we don't need this screen here' and removed it to cut down manufacturing costs.
