I would have cried when it happened, but it's really looking like they should have pushed Rock Band into next year when they could keep up with instrument production. I hope they are recalling/asking stores to set aside the stand alone games and providing refunds to people who are stuck with an unplayable game until the guitars are out.
Microsoft better not cave, I cant really play with the strat, I love the buttons but really need the click of the Les Paul strummer to play fast sections.
I already regretted buying GH3 before this fiasco, but GH4 is now a definite no-buy, if things don't change.

Activision probably told Sony, "Don't release the patch or we no longer make PS3 games." Sony obviously has to comply. Now their are small rumours they go after the 360 camp. Forcing harmonix to develop a patch for their game otherwise they pull their game library from Microsoft.
Their reason for it could be people who have not bought anything yet will probably only get one or the other and they assume because theirs is only 100$ people will learn that way. But it's stupid because many people would buy both. If Activision made RB guitars compatible everyone with a PS3 would eventually buy both. There would almost not be a reason if you truly liked these music games.
It's stupid though because people liked using the LP guitar because of it's better build and people would have probably bought a 2nd LP to use with GH and rockband. All they are doing now is looking like the bad guy.
Now they have a worse rep than Sony's PR staff and this is only making them look like the next EA (giant corperation that doesn't give a FLYING FUCK about its customers).

Correct me if I am wrong. Wasn't RB orignially programmed to work with GH3's guitar, then some "glitch" happened so they were forced to release a patch? And obviously, Activision must give them the green light at first place, explicitly or implicitly. Why does Activision do a 180 turn all of sudden?

Wrong. Activision and Blizzard, whilst under the same banner, will most likely hold separate rights to design and implementation decisions for their separate franchises. So cursing Blizzard Entertainment has absolutely no relevance for this situation.
I'm in the camp that believes RB shouldn't have gambled on third party peripherals if they really cared about their fans in the first place.

They are releasing stand alone guitars, come the spring. The problem is what am I and countless others going to do in the mean time. Play single player on both version, instead of the way they are supposed to be played... with friends.

Let's say Sony releases the patch against Activision's will. If Activision pulls out of the PS3 game making, they can't make as much money. If Activision sues and Sony gets pissed off by that and pulls their license, Activision make less money.
Heck, and by not allowing the patch to be released they lose potential revenue from GH3 bundle/guitar sales from RB players.
I've probly got a bit of this backwards, but as I see it, the only good option for revenue, public image and for consumers is to release the patch.

It would be really cool of EA to offer a rebate on the stand-alone guitars (when they're released) to anyone who bought the PS3 game-only versions. Say, have a printable form on their website, and you'd cut out the UPC from the game and send it in with the form and receive a $20 rebate for your wait.

Yea they could probably twist microsoft's arm they same way they did sony's. Tell them to stop Rock Band's DLC or online patchs until they remove the LP from the game. Otherwise every Activision game will be PS3/Wii exclusive. Obviously Microsoft wants it's Tony hawk games.FF_VIII said:

Their class balancing is complete and utter trash with any given class being overpowered as hell one month and completely gimped the next. And for as much money pouring into the game, they reinvest so little of it back into the game that its disgusting. They are even too cheap to buy some more servers to host arena matches, so queues to actually play the game are staggeringly long because they had to hardcap the amount of matches because of infrastructure concerns (something they admit they have no intention of truly fixing). I'm literally ashamed to be playing the damn game anymore, but they've essentially crushed the competition and as a pvp focused mmo player, playing on dead servers of better games doesnt really work.
