Has any PS4/XB1 game really blown you away?

P.T. both blew my mind and deprived me from sleep.

This.

Another game to surprise me is GTA5 which the GB quicklook suckered me into buying a second time. It looks absolutely stunning, just incredible. Wish I could play that first person mode with a CV version Oculus Rift right now.

I'm not a big basketball fan, but graphically the two NBA 2K games blew my mind. Near photo realistic.

In terms of actual gameplay enhancements, no, nothing yet. Everything for the most part looks and feels better than last gen, but that's about it for me at this point.

I'm talking MGS2/Halo/Gears/Uncharted level. For me Second Son came close, great game but not quite there yet. I'm still waiting on that game that really pushes the PS4 with something that really wows me. I'm holing out hope that The Order, Bloodborne or Uncharted 4 does it.

Gameplay-wise just Titanfall. That game is just mesmerizing.

This thread made me purchase Second Son.

By the way, the lack of Drive Club here is crazy. Haters can hate... And man does this game deserve it, but the graphics are absolutely insane.

That was a bad decision, should have waited a month to get the superior Infamous through Plus.

DC will rightfully take its place when weather is available.

Not at all. Solid-Good titles only. WiiU on the other hand has some of the best titles in their respective genre.

2015 will probably be the year the big guys catch up and leave the poor WiiU behind.

Wolfenstein: The New Order.
It's been a while since I played a really captivating FPS with awesome shooting mechanics.

Forza 5 and Horizon 2.

F5 gets some stick, the image quality is rough and some tracks have flat lighting but the game can look really good too. Then there's the frame rate.

Crazy enough, I'd have to say Assassin's Creed 4: Black Flag. Playing that game... everything was just so damn beautiful. The sailing was amazing, everything. It's great that I bought that game with the console, too. Didn't have to wait long to see "oh right, this is why I'm not playing PS3 anymore."

After that, probably P.T. That may be the best looking thing I've ever played on a console. I'd have to think about it, but nothing jumps out to correct me at the moment.

It depends, define "blown away".

Are we talking about graphics, or the game in general, meaning story, gameplay, graphics, everything.

If we are talking the overall game, then no, im not blown away yet by anything. Good games so far, but nothing mind blowing.

In terms of graphics though, yes, I am pretty blown away already.

Killzone Shadow Fall and Infamous Second Son have floored me with their graphics. Especiall ISS. The detail in that game for an open world game is crazy.

Other games tingled my WOW factor as well in terms of visuals, like Far Cry 4 just now, and Shadow of Mordor can look spectacular at times.

Killzone
NBA2K14 (I still get kind of blown away when I watch the intro)
Infamous
Driveclub

Even BF4 because of 64 player mayhem.

No game until now had my jaw dropping

InfamousSS has some neat visuals and SunsetOverdrive has some crazystuff happening with a smooth framerate,
both have a solid draw distance but no...

Nothing on a GodOfWar3, Uncharted2, GearsOfWar level of sexyness until now

IMHO witcher3 too on console will be kind of disappointing too

Great trust on Uncharted4 and Bloodborne for 2015 to set the bar higher, probably TheOrder too will set some achievements in Character Modeling
Hope some underdogs will surprise me too

As I was just saying in the Far Cry 4 topic, the clean, jaggy-free IQ in that game is unprecedented on consoles, I was very much blown away when the opening scene finished and I was able to look around. I thought Second Son did a great job with IQ, but this is significantly better. This "Hybrid Reconstruction Anti-Aliasing" (HRAA) mentioned in the Digital Foundry article is a wonder to behold. You really have to hunt for jaggies to find them, and as they are my biggest pet-peeve this really pleases me.

Also the trees in that game are the best trees in any game, period. Even on very close inspection there's a surprising amount of 3-dimensional stucture, they look stunning, helped further by the smooth edges which normally plagues in-game trees.

Nice mention, thanks, did not know about it

Any news about a FC4 PhotoMode?
Most of recent nextgen console products have some neat tools for ingame photography

From what I've seen, it's a great looking game, but personally I would actually file it under "disappointment" because some of the pre-release materials looked out of this world, yet practically nothing I've seen of the actual game since the launch does. Also, I was spoiled by Horizon 2 which to me looks just as good overall, with some aspects of the presentation looking better, and others looking worse, but from the fantasy fulfillment angle it just takes the cake.

Forza 5 and Horizon 2.

F5 gets some stick, the image quality is rough and some tracks have flat lighting but the game can look really good too. Then there's the frame rate.

These are some of the nicest looking games I've seen, along with Second Son.

Still waiting to be blown away, though.

Forza Horizon. Smooth, beautiful, full of interesting things, expertly crafted, dynamic everything.

Players almost everything out for XO and PS4 and that was the only game that made me really feel next gen.

Nothing so far. I've been really enjoying Destiny despite it's flaws. Titanfall was a blast for a couple of months, but I wouldn't say on any level that I've been 'blown away' yet.

This got me thinking though, what was the last game that truly blew me away and made me think 'wow'. In all honesty, nothing in years. Maybe Mass Effect. I'm not sure I even expect to have my mind blown anymore. But this is a whole other line of discourse entirely.

Tomorrow Children Alpha is really special, its rendering and resulting presentation is really like anything I've ever seen in a game.

So which ones succeeded in Blowing.
And which ones atleast didnt blow....granted none have blown you away id just like to get a gauge of the games youve played that were decent, and those that truly were garbage.

Note. I dont have many NextGen games, but ill be coming into some money soon and ill be binge buying soon.

Try Resogun and Diablo 3 for non-sucky blowing. Just a cool hint of a breeze.

Sunset overdrive. Huge number of enemies, gorgeous colors, awesome partical effects, and all wrapped up in a completely new, fresh experience. It's going to be a long while before I play something that hits me as good as SO did.

Uhm, well people are saying FC4 is the best looking game this gen so when i get that today then it may be that. GTA V looks fucking insane from what I've seen in the snapmatic thread, but here is my list for what I've played.

Infamous:SS
Driveclub (without all of its problems)
TLOU in 60 fps.....jesus

@OP

Not really, but Wolfenstein had some nice bits. Discovering the Infamous:SS photomode was also a quite remarkable moment.

And I really liked the tailing MP in Watch_Dodges - but I'm not sure if this really counts as a PS4/XB1 game.

Definitely Second Son. I haven't played a ton of releases this year, but I found myself taking in the visuals more than playing the game at some points.

Diablo 3 on PS4 is great. inFamous and Driveclub for all the wrong reasons. And Titanfall for being the best shooter I've played in ages, as well as Sunset Overdrive for being the best game I played this year. Gives me all kinds of hope for Ratchet and Clank.

GTA V on ps4. The amount of grass is unparalleled.

Nah. Skyrim on my 2011 pc had better foliage render distances.

Not for me. I love my ps4 but it feels like it's just there to bridge the gap between my last-gen gamer pc and a true next-gen pc once the price and time is right.

Don't want to be controversial, but Assassin's Creed Unity is the first game that blows me away on PS4 (it blows me away even more on PC, but I played also on my brother's PS4). When stars align and this game runs properly, it shows probably the first true next-gen experience.

For comparison, I finished I:SS but that city never felt as alive as Paris and gameplay was old and boring. Therefore it didn't blow me away as much.

I'll have to say my experiences with Ryse/Sunset Overdrive/Titanfall have been amazing on my XBONE. The Demo of Forza Horizon 2 was stellar and will make me buy it shortly as well.

I will say though that this gen has not blown me away with load times. They have been pretty bad across the board in most games. Ryse Multiplayer was the worst offender of that.

Graphically, I'm impressed

Technically, I'm impressed too,
but not too much!

Forza Horizon 2 - The general next gen feel of the racing/open world
Sunset Overdrive - The mission where you get the sword, so much chaos on screen!
Battlefield 4 - Seeing the water on launch day made go :O
Forza 5 - The impulse triggers made the racing feel very intuitive

Two thoughts on reading this thread as a recent (last two weeks) PS4 owner.

1) Kinda sad how many of those games mentioned are ports or remakes (even cross-gen)

2) I really need to play Shadow of Mordor. Bought it and think I'll love it based on what I've head, but Destiny is like crack.

Infamous:SS
Destiny
Shadow of Mordor
the CoD:AW single player campaign

mind you, i've had a decentish PC for the last few years, so it's more like

FINALLY, I can play games like this on the couch

How is it sad? Ports can still be significantly better looking than their counterparts (in the case of the DW series) and remakes can change a great deal (in the case of GTAV). Good games are good games, people are too hung up on where they came from and what they are.

Anyway:

Resogun was amazing. I never liked side scrolling shooters but man, something about that addictive nature of saving, boosting, keep my score up, and taking on those bullet hell bosses got me in some way.

SW4 is probably my favorite musou at the moment. No fps drops unless things get ridiculous is what I've always wanted, plus the hyper system extends combos by a great deal.

Driveclub, despite those awful connection issues, looks and plays great.

LBP3 (IT'S A "PORT" SO IT DOESN'T COUNT LALALALALA) is a huge evolution on what the series can do. The community levels I found today are leaps and bounds in quality over the previous games. Layers and new character properties are a breath of fresh air.

MGS GZ (IT'S A CROSS GEN GAME LALALA) feels so organic compared to the other games. Like natural stealth. It was heart-racing to not rely on tools and just outright getting sneaky.

P.T. was horrifying, and not in just a jumpscare way.

The Evil Within (CROSS GEN LOL) brought me back to the days of RE4.

Damn, I have a lot more than I thought I would, and I'm still missing a few. They aren't all console exclusive games, but they are titles of this generation that stand as definitive version (not including PC versions, of course).
