Have you ever bought a console just for ONE game?

SNES for Street Fighter II
Xbox - Halo
Wii - Muramasa
Vita - Gravity Rush

For the most part I knew other games were coming but these pushed me to buy. My other consoles I just picked up by default once enough games were out.

When I first bought my PS2, I was only interested in FFX. Of course, it ended up being a great purchase since by the end of the console, the library of games was fantastic.

GameCube for Smash Brothers Melee
360 for Oblivion (my PC sucked at the time and I loved me some Daggerfall and Morrowind)
N64 for Mario 64

"Have you ever bought a console just for ONE game?"

It always starts that way for me. The one-must have.
Then once I have the system I begin to dive into the other interesting looking exclusives.

a SNES for Super Mario World

an N64 for Mario 64

a PS2 for GTA 3
(the next day, an Xbox for Halo)

I imported a Japanese-modded-for-US(-used-in-UK) Gamecube for Rogue Leader

a 360 for Dead Rising (after seeing it at E3 '06)

I *thiiiiink* I got a Wii for Mario Galaxy (or maybe Prime 3?)

preordered a PS4, not really for one game, but my PC not being good enough for BF4 made me pre-order BF4 :)

I bought a Vita for Persona 4 Golden, and a PS4 for MGS4. Wound up enjoying a load of other games on those two systems too.

Vita for P4G. No regrets at all. :)

Vita for P4G.

Worth it even more in the long run for being able to play old FF's and Disgaea on the go.

must...resis....urge to buy P4 Golden and REbuy Vita........

DC - Sonic Adventure
GBC - Pokemon Silver
GC - RE Remake
Xbox - SWTOR
Wii U - MH3U
3DSXL - Pokemon X or Y (ended up getting X)
PSP - Untold Legends
N64 - Diddy Kong Racing

I got a PS2 near the end of the gen for the Jak series. I made a mistake getting an original Xbox last gen, the PS2 was incredible.

heh, when I returned to Pokemon in 2011 I bought a 3ds OG just so I could play the DS games. Best purchase I've ever made in hindsight.

yeah, I'm not the only one who bought the 360 for Tales of Vesperia...
Well I first rented it, and after seeing how awesome ToV was I went ahead and bought one.

I bought the PS3 after I read that there would be a Zone of the Enders 3... heh... I've never been so wrong... instead we got 15 more MGS games. Thanks Kojima.
But I didn't regret getting the PS3, turned out to be an awesome console with a lot of games. Add PS+ to that and I'm stuck at about 10+ games that I still need to start not to mention the ones I still need to finish.

PS1 for SotN back in 1998. I abhorred the 3D graphics/gameplay that were all the rage (Tomb Raider et. al.) so not much interested me on the platform at the time.

Also ended up picking Alundra that same winter. Another solid buy!

Yep. Like the OP I bought the gamecube for RE: Remake lol. I was in Canada at the time and got it pre-owned at EB with couple of gamepads. Picked up Mario Party and Mario Kart as well. I didn't regret it.

I would never pick up a console at launch just for one game though.

I'm not counting cases like Super Mario 64, which obviously sold the N64 to me, but several other games came out for it that became must haves for me. So I'm reall talking consoles I wouldn't buy again if this one game wasn't there:

Saturn: NiGHTS into Dreams
Neo Geo Pocket Color: Sonic the Hedgehog Pocket Adventure
Virtual Boy: Wario Land VB
PS Vita: Monkey Ball Banana Splitz

3DS for AA5.

Second I'm done with AA5 I'm selling it. Haven't touched it in months otherwise.

Maybe you should try Virtue's Last Reward afterwards. Also there's Ace Attorney VS Layton still coming, as an Ace Attorney fan you should want to play that, too, don't you?

Yeah happens all the time actually. Makes sense if you think about it, consoles are always looking for that one big title that's going to drive sales. I think for most of us it was probably similar games depending on what console you are discussing. Resident Evil Remake is what pushed me to get a Gamecube, Sonic Adventure for Dreamcast, Tekken for the Playstation One, and from the current generation Gears of War for 360.

Oddly enough this is actually the first time there are games for an upcoming launch I really want to play but I am not buying the system right away (Killer Instinct, Crimson Dragon + Xbox One.)

I bought a Gamecube for Resident Evil 4. It was being hailed as one of the greatest games ever (and it is) and one day I walk in into a store and GCs were being sold for the price of the game with the game included. Paid 60E for GC+RES4 bundle, so I don't know if I actually bought the console and they gave me a game, or if I bought the game and they gave me a console.

Worth it.

I have never understood the concept of buying a console for one game, because inevitably there are going to be more games for that console you'll enjoy. So in all honesty, it's never really about one game, even though it may feel like that the day you buy it.

Clearly there was other stuff I figured I'd play on the system as well, but AW was the game that pushed me to finally get a 360.

One particular game is usually the tipping point, but I wouldn't buy a system if I didn't know it had other games I was interested in further down the line.

360 - Dead Rising (but also Oblivion)
PS3 - Demon's Souls

I want to add SFC - Super Ghouls & Ghosts, but I knew I wanted it for Mario World & SF2, as well as others probably.

Maybe you should try Virtue's Last Reward afterwards. Also there's Ace Attorney VS Layton still coming, as an Ace Attorney fan you should want to play that, too, don't you?

Have it for Vita and AA vs Layton is meh.

I've played through Project X Zone and Fire Emblem too. Got Animal Crossing so play with friends but that never ended up happening.

360 for....

FEZ.

Ended up getting a bunch of other games/exclusives too, but most all of it I ended up trading in and repurchasing on PC (FEZ included).

Bought N64 just for Mario 64, bought Dreamcast for Sonic Adventure, bought Gamecube for Smash Bros Melee, bought an Xbox 360 for......Bioshock :(.

The PSP at launch for GT Mobile. I ended up not being happy to have to wait years for that to come out, I thought it would be n almost launch title.
