Have you ever bought a game because a hot girl/guy was in it

No, if anything it has the opposite effect. Sex is great and all but when devs try to appeal to my baser instincts with their character designs it just has the opposite of the intended effect in that it turns me away from the game.

Consciously? no. I never went to the store thinking "I'll get some games with boobies!"

Sub-consciously/indirectly? Probably yes, maybe the attractive guy/girl just managed to capture my attention for long enough to make me interested in the game.

I bought Batman Arkham Asylum because I found the Batman model very hot.

I'm not a fan of Batman. What's more, I've never seen any Batman film or TV series in my life, I haven't read any Batman comic either.

I don't regret it, the game was really good.

Edit: I did the same with Uncharted Collection for Nathan Drake, I regret getting this one because I didn't like the games.

As a general rule, it'd incentivise me to buy a game, but I wouldn't get one solely for that reason.

The exception is Date A Live games, which I'll import even though I can't understand Japanese. Because:

It's been a factor a few times, but pretty much only when the game is at least reasonably well liked aside from any such character designs. Vice City, Tomb Raider Legend, and the Shantae series are the ones that come to mind.

I think there have been games I've looked into because it has a character design I've liked, but no, I've never purchased a game solely because of character designs.

No, I don't think I've ever bought a game specifically because of attractive character design. That doesn't mean there aren't loads of characters I've thought are cute/pretty/cool/handsome/whatever amidst the casts of the games I've bought though. Someone upthread mentioned Lin from Advance Wars: Dark Conflict, yeah, I thought that was attractive character design too, but I bought the game because I love
turn-based strategy and was buying it day one regardless.

If anything, overt attempts to sell through sexuality like Senran Kagura makes it more likely I'll just skip past it and assume the game is trash (even if it isn't).

Em... FF X-2 before FF X because of Yuna... Probably some PS1 and Dreamcast games because of the cover arts with character but nothing in particular comes to mind.

Zelda: Hyrule Warriors -- "Man, Dynasty Warriors games are boring. But, damn, Link looks great with that scarf. And... OH DAMN THAT ZELDA ARMOR DRESS okay I guess I'll try it out" -- Played through the main game, but not all the side stuff because ahahahahaha yeah no.

Reverse example: Bayonetta: "Man you know I don't mind sexy ladies in games or anything but I feel like that's all this game has got going for it, like why would I play it?"
Eventually people started talking more about how amazing the actual game was and not just how the main character looked, and then I got to *really* understand what Bayonetta's appearance was all about. Now she's my favorite character in games.

Bonus points: Dead or Alive. I mean, yeah.

So sex sells in the end.

Congrats to the sincere souls in this thread, at least there are still some people around that are not ashamed of their humanity.

I don't know if it's ever been the sole reason for a purchase but it certainly got me interested in DoA.

Also, back in the day I really like soul calibur 4's character creator as you could make some really good looking female characters. So I put hundred of hours into SC4 just to unlock all the character creation pieces and make a girl for each moveset.

Creating attractive women in character creators has become one of my favorite things to do and the idea of that will sometimes really sell me on a game but I still don't think it's ever been the #1 reason for a purchase. The game still needs to be a good game.

Skyrim mods are pretty cool.

It would be extreamly painful...
I don't get it. We live in a golden age of porn. We have (easy) access to a nigh-endless supply of masturbation material. So why do people need their video games to be all sexed up? It just strikes me as so unnecessary.

"Unnecessary", "need", these are such odd terms when referring to a luxury product like a videogame.

People enjoy playing videogames. They also enjoy looking at sexy people. It makes sense then that there would be push for combinations of the two.

We don't need it, but we want it, and is a supply to fill that demand. Removing that demand would likely involve the sterilisation of the entirety of the human race, which would have side effects. (And even then, I don't think you would remove the demand entirely)

Someone else made a good point earlier, which makes this easier to answer: I can definitely say that there are games that I would not have purchased were the protagonists or characters in it ugly or unattractive.

There are rarely games out there that have what I consider a "Hot Girl". So no.

Maybe a hot woman?

If you didn't think She-Ra was sexy as hell when you were 6 years old, y'all don't have genitals

Even found time to wear eye-shadow along with battling the forces of evil lolololol

Didnt like the design of Masters of the Universe in general, when compared to Thundercats.

I liked Gadget from Rescue Rangers back then. Unfortunately I didnt play the NES game, though I read a full strategy guide with maps in the official Nintendo magazine

Chara design is a big part of why I would be interested or not in a game, cool/good-looking/sexy character is usually a big positive for me. Like I have Darksiders in my steam library but the chara design alone make me put it very low in my backlog, if tomorow the game allowed me to play it as say... 2B, I would probably at least try it asap.

No I haven't and I think it would be kinda silly. To me it seems similar to listening to music of Ariana Grande because she is attractive. Though, if the point of the game is to titillate the player, like Criminal Girls or DOAX then it would make sense to buy the game with attractive characters in it. Then again, my purchasing decision wasn't mainly made because of hot character but because of the overall sexual/sexualized content. But if I'm comparing two RPG:s for example, the attractiveness of the character(s) wouldn't weigh much in my purchasing decision. I'd rather go for the critically acclaimed title, the game with more interesting setting or premise, developer pedigree etc. The list goes on for a long time before it gets to hotness of the characters.

I'd have to lie to deny that the design of the female characters was what got me interested in the Dead or Alive series. Turns out those games are also fun to play.

Command and Conquer Red Alert

Tanya is hot, I totally bought this game for the kickass Tanya cutscenes

Command and Conquer Red Alert 2

Tanya is still hot, a little sexualised... but ok, still has some kickass scenes

Command and Conquer Red Alert 3

What the hell did EA do to Westwood to deserve this? They killed Tanya and Westwood... I never forgave EA for this!

I mean look at this shit

Yes. Especially when it comes to fighting games with dlc costumes like in DOA. It was definitely a deciding factor in purchasing Overwatch and Haydee on PC.

Nope. If anything "hot" characters that are intended to be a selling point are usually a big turn off for me from buying/playing a game. At most, I ignore it and they're indifferent if it's a game I want to play regardless.

Do dating sims count? If not, then I don't think I ever bought a game because of hot guys.
I do get very attached to characters while playing a game though. That's why fan art exists. That usually develops over the interactions in the game though, hot guys happen to be jerks a lot unfortunately.

Oh well, I did buy Dragon Age Inquisition when it was on sale on Origin for 5€, fully intending to play it for the dating sim aspects. It's a pretty shoddy sim, I have to say, but had some well written parts.
Eventually I killed a lot of High Dragons waiting to make Adoribull happen. Do people play these games for the combat normally??
