Have you ever played a PERFECT game?

no, and I don't think there's such a thing.

but bloodborne gets pretty close to it (that thing that not is)
Not to be a dick but how can you call a game perfect (or close to it) that hasn't been released yet..?

I would hesitate to call any game perfect but I guess I will list the ones I think came close.

Metroid prime: I think the reason why 2 and 3 are so different from the first, was that trying to surpass the first in a meaningful way was a fools errand.

Super Smash Bros. Melee: Some of the games more competive mechanics (like increased hit stun and non snap ledges) actually made it a more enjoyable game even in casual. There was a lot more hilarious combos in FFA thanks to the larger hitstun and those "aww, so close!" ledge moments are pretty much gone now. Those were actually a lot of fun and made for a good laugh, even if I was the one falling towards my death.

I definitely played some games that came close:

Portal.
Advance Wars 2: Black Hole Rising
The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time

Shadow of the Colossus. Nothing has yet replicated the feeling of riding your horse around a world you know NOTHING about, but are captivated by that very mystery. The only sensation that comes close is the feeling of dread, terror, and most importantly guilt, when you realize that you have no choice but to kill.

Oh and Portal 2, without question one of the finest experiences (gameplay, narrative, characterization, music, every fucking thing) in video game history.

Which Tetris are people even talking about? NES/GB Tetris? It was easily beaten by The Grand Master series IMO, but some people still prefer the old ones. When it comes to basic ideas then yes, it's perfect. When we analyze it in greater detail, the things that are a matter of taste or perhaps even little flaws start to appear. Same with Quake 3 Arena, which is the closest thing to perfection in the realm of multiplayer FPS (even if frankly I prefer the more flawed Unreal Tournament a bit) - mods like CPMA don't exist without a reason and even then, they aren't liked by everyone.

The most truly shocking and perfect experience in game-moment for me - were in my first encounter with Gran Turismo, when I discovered I could race with my family's car and most of our neighbours cars.. :)
I hadn't even dreamt of a videogame were you could choose between hudreds of cars before. :P

In more recent times, the most close to perfect game have been The Last of Us. :)

No.

One man's heaven is another man's hell. You dig?

With so many aspects to a game, you can never reach a decision that one game is perfrect based on opinion alone. Even if you take it to an "objective" zone you'll never find a good enough answer.

Better to ignore those definitions of perfection and perhaps ask something like "what's a perfect representation of a certain genre?"

Only one that I've played:

When we say "perfect game", I think we mean absolutely perfect for us. As in, that specific game you don't see a single absolute flaw in. And the gameplay, atmosphere, story, music are all perfectly fit to your preferences. And for me, there is one game that does it...

Smash Bros Melee. It's totally by accident but that game just seems to have infinite depth. As this singular thing, it's perfect.

Dark Souls is the "most perfect" game I've ever played. The game design is perfect in my mind, the performance issues and inventory management are the 2 things holding it back from perfection.

Oh neat, you're back!

One of the most perfect games I've ever played honestly :'). Only tittle I proudly put 10+ replays into and still wanted to play more :D! Love this utter classic and it is my favorite in the Ratchet series :).

I just wish the final few areas in the game weren't so terrible. They were really unnecessary and especially frustrating. :(

I NEVER want to play a "perfect game .

a "Perfect" game would mean that nothing is left that could be improved on .
Nothing from effects ,gameplay , to presentation that could be finetuned or evolve .

Nothing would impress me anymore since we will have reached the ceiling .

Besides , Perfection is subjective , what one person would find Perfect , the other guy would find there are points to improve on .

For me, perfect games equate to some of my favorite games of all time. Nothing is objectively perfect, but I had no issues with and absolutely loved the following.

Super Mario World
Final Fight
Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3
Portal
Street Fighter 2
Red Dead Redemption
The Last of Us

These are all games I could still play today and enjoy without any technological or design limitation getting in the way of how great these games are.

I've always said that Castlevania: Symphony of the Night is an example of video game perfection.

It's not even my favorite game of all time, but it is perfect.

Agreed. Most people naming Tetris probably don't even know there is different rotation systems. And I think the basic rotation is shit. TGM/sega rotation is definitely the best. SRS is fine but flawed.

Made a battle system completely unique to the series and then perfected it at the 3rd game. (4 and 5 ruined it but I hear 6 is just as good as 3 though)

Perfect as in zero flaws doesn't exist. But near-perfect (I.E. possessing relatively minor flaws if even that that are totally forgivable) and going off the top of my head:

Shatterhand. Only because some of the bots you can pick up are completely worthless.

Doom. Pistol is worthless by level 2.

Doom 2. Shotgun and Pistol are worthless by the end of level 1.

Blood. Never had a source release.

Street Fighter 3: 3rd Strike. Sean and Twelve are pretty much worthless. There's never been an arcade-perfect port. And the online is even farther from arcade-perfect.

Bionic Commando: Rearmed. No online co-op or versus.

NES Batman. One of your weapons is rarely used. And farming for health is annoying.

Castlevania games. Getting the dagger. This wasn't fixed until Rondo of Blood.

oh wait, i have the answer

Castlevania SOTN

As much as Castlevania: Symphony of the Night is my favorite game, I can't call it perfect solely on the mechanic for using healing items in the game:

  • Pause game.
  • Un-equip item from left or right hand.
  • Equip healing item in the now empty hand.
  • Un-pause game.
  • Throw the healing item.
  • Walk over it to heal (and hopefully not get hit by anything).
  • Pause game.
  • Re-equip item that was in your left or right hand.
  • Un-pause game and resume play.
