Man I either suck really bad at Arena, or I just don't get it. I can win all day with constructed decks and I am lucky to get 2 wins in Arena.

The choices I seem to get are all over the map lol.

It has a lot more RNG. Most due to the resource system. But you still have players repeatedly placing in the Top 8/16 week after week at massive events.

I completely disagree. Trump said he hates lands and how they work. Being mana-screwed sucks, but other than that I really don't see how Magic is random besides drawing cards like every card game. Hearthstone has so many cards relying on randomness that can easily cost you the game or win it like that ragnaros that hit to the face multiple times.

Drafting in arena is a skill in itself. I'm the same, win percent much higher in constructed. I have a habit of picking too many high cost cards, and picking what I think is the best card of the 3 choices given without regard to how it'll fit in the deck.

I think this game is going to be a big hit, especially when they get it out on mobile devices. I know a lot of people, myself included, who have never had any interest CCGs but are now addicted to Hearthstone. This is a damn shiny game for just being in beta.

I just wonder if blizzard is acting too slowly by keeping it in beta so long. There is talk out there of chinese clones that steal assets and work on the tablet already. How long before an american company decides they can create a game like this and steal the market?

So, how often should I be using my hero powers? I have been mostly playing shaman (was my main when I played WoW), and only seem to really use the hero ability when I have nothing else to play (or nothing that makes sense).

It's going to go to open beta soon enough. Blizzard has a nearly finished product and a loyal fanbase to jumstart things, Hearthstone is going to blow up.

It's not like MOBA where they've decided to make one years after LoL has grabbed the market by the balls and Valve bought something that was already pitched to them.

That is a good way for shamans and some other classes (warrior, hunter, paladin - although they can use it more meaningful with buff creatures). Problem with shaman is, that it's too random to use it in a sophisticated way. If you could choose a totem (which would be broken probably) you could make more plays with it. e.g. Spelldamage totem => stuff, or Snake if you need to protect something or summon a 1/1 for free.

The resource system being tied to draws puts a huge amount of variance in there.

In Hearthstone, there's randomness, but you have a much, much easier time mitigating it. There are random cards in Magic too, but no one reallly uses them outside of casual play. Very few "random" cards are actually good, and those that are (t2 mad bomber killing their coin play) are cards you can set up to blow someone out with.

For a bigger example- Hearthstone's Mulligan system hugely decreases the amount of randomness (and currently gives a huge edge to the player going second.

Defeating 20 5+ minions is clearly the worst daily, but I think I stumbled upon the 2nd worse:
"Play 20 5+ minions " .____.

The thing about using hero power is that sometimes you may want to use it in place of a card being played, simply to hold something back. Getting screwed by running out of cards is generally speaking the worst thing that can happen in the game, of your own doing.

Also there is a small trick to shaman power that isn't immediately apparent, I think at least. When you call a totem, it will randomly make a totem but it will not duplicate a totem already out on the field.

Also keep in mind the minion limit. One of the first times I played shaman I had all totems out, and the rest minions, and a priest did mass dispel and silenced them all making them all rather useless. I couldn't even play another minion on the field cause there is a maximum amount of minions. It turned into a loss, but I learned my lesson.

trying to get it down with druid (gain mana crystals). just faced a mage who played 2 minions and otherwise 2x pyro, 2x fireball. what fun xD at least I got a few of them out prior to that.

Ah yeah, that's probably better anyway.

The Druid, not getting melted by a Mage.

If you have 10 mana already and play Wild Growth (gain empty mana crystal) you get a card that costs 0 mana and let's you draw a card in return. (it states: "you can only have 10 mana crystals). Didn't know that.

Yea, thats one thing that i have noticed in my 3 arena loses. I ended up with a rather weenie, but boostable mobs, with a few biggies (pretty good for a shaman, I think), but I got screwed when I lost board control since I was able to pump out those weenies pretty quickly, and when the board got wiped, I didnt have any cards in my hand.

Things went down quickly from there.

It also counts as another spell. So it'll work with things like the Auctioneer and Violet Teacher.

Lmao. I drafted a mage deck consisting mostly of 1 and 2 drops + a few spells. Drew Questing Adventurer early every match xD all 3 opponents quit around turn 5 (they'd die turn 6 anyway).

This poor guy made it to turn 5, summoned Mountain Giant only to run into my trap...

I feel disgusted. Don't have any flamestrike or pyro or fireballs tho. Did get an Blizzard tho.

Also, Priestress is rather nice. I feel like she's a very decent 1 drop, if not the best in the game next to Argent Squire and Abusive Sergent. Why run Lepra Gnome?

So, not sure if anyone else has had this bullshit happen but there is a massively abusive glitch involving the turn timer not activating in which i'm not sure how it's triggered.

Guy called Jamie just did this to me. He was playing a warrior and abused this bug. After about 10 minutes, the game made the explosion sound, said it was my turn, and he started laying down everything in his hand for free, attacked me with everything during my supposed turn, and the game repeated the explosion sound effect from the turn timer at least 3 more times while he never stopped attacking.

Great game Blizz.

Its pretty much only the resource system. However the way MtG works you have alot more possibilities to get back from an initial bad draw. The fact that you can block and get spells to play during the opponents turn is what makes it deeper and feel alot less rng based.
Hearthstone is almost too simplistic.
But its a knifes edge, since HS is aiming for faster games and the simplicity so you dont scare away the mass market.

HA! I got that one -_-

Druid decks are my friend for that challenge. Killing 20 just takes time and LOTS AND LOTS of azure dragons.

I've noticed a lot more people seem to have legendaries and stacked decks now in unranked. It's easier for me to win in ranked now which is opposite usual.

Seriously screw arena, fucking bullshit when someone gets a molten giant and a faceless where I've never even seen a faceless in a arena draft.

Shit is so damn rigged.

edit: Okay so I try to make a rush deck, well too bad mother fucker we won't give you enough to do that!! I try to make a well balanced deck, sorry man no board control spells for you.

Hey try back in three days after some dailies or pay $1.99 to try again!!

Sounds like you hit a bit of server lag. I've had shaky turns where my opponent doesn't seem to do anything, and then it catches up and he does a whole bunch of things all at once. Or on my turn I can't play any thing and then suddenly it catches up and I'm on the fuse already.

Doesn't happen often but it definitely sounds like some kind of connection problem.

Wow I just had a match where my priest had the most BS luck ever... I copied this Paladin's Ragnaros out of his deck 3x. He waited till the very end to even play it. Not sure if he was waiting for me to burn MC (which I did on his Sunwalker).

Rags Copy 1 - He killed after 2 turns
Rags Copy 2 - (This is where I started recording) He killed after a few turns.
Rags Copy 3 - Ended up outliving him.

When he finally played his I just nuked it.

Edit : Vid was still processing when I posted...sorry! And now that it is done, for some reason the quality is for crap (unlike the rest of my Vids) Hmmmm....

Ugh I just got d'ced two times in a row. Both times the game would just pull me back to the arena screen, count as a loss and claim that I could try starting another game to reconnect to my game, except that when I tried it the first time (to reconnect as fast as possible) it put me into a new game, then disconnected me again to make that 3 losses. (I had one already, but it was totally bs. Fucking mage top-decking pyroblast turn 8 with no cards on hand or board.

I was totally beasting with a Warlock deck too. Fucking shit, I want a refund for this run Blizzard, I barely got 5g for that 3-3 run, which actually would've been at least 4-1 >:( I'm so mad right now.

I guess that is what I get for sneaking some rounds when I'm supposed to be finishing my work. U.U

This is super easy quest.

Just play arena and you will be playing few bigger minions each game.
And you have 3 days to do it so no need to hurry

They should really look at the gold gains in play mode, 10g for 3 wins feels like a slap in the face. 10g per each win feels a lot more rational imo or alternatively keep it at 10g for 3 wins in unranked and 10g per win for ranked to give some incentive to play ranked games for other gains except just for e-peen enlargement ( unless I'm missing something here ofcourse, still new to the game ).

I'm not sure what's worse. That Fiery War Axe turn 1/2 is always a Warrior's first move and it instantly kills any momentum their opponent can get, or that it's basically all that is keeping Warriors somewhat viable outside of their ridiculous combos they can sometimes pull off.

Absolutely dominated the board with my barely above starter mage deck. God it felt amazing, always fireballed his 1/1 summoned minion. He placed blessing of Wisdom on my Spell damage minion, so I simply never attacked with him (Wasn't planning on it anyways). Just constantly kept killing off or freezing minions he dropped onto the board. At one point he was able to put a Shattered Clerics, a Boulderfist Orge, Frostwolf Warlord and one of his 1/1 minions. Flamestrike them and picked off the ones with 1 or 2 life with my minions. And kept my water elemental on him so he couldn't attack me directly.

We just hit round 10.

I have like 800 gold in reserve, I don't play enough to use it all lol. I generally do the dailies first if there's 2 or more, otherwise play arena a few times. If I only have 1 daily and won two matches in arena, I generally just don't play until the next day, so sometimes an arena run takes me 3 or 4 days to get through, in the mean time I've made 100+ gold on dailies, plus the return on the arena when I finally clear it out, so I rarely ever see a drop in my gold.

On the downside, when I'm doing my dailies, I only play ranked since unranked is still actually ranked, so what's the difference, other than unranked being worse in my experience, and if I get to a daily where my deck for the class is just way outclassed by my opponent twice, I scrap the whole deck and that class has a big X over it and reminds me I can't play it again until I rebuild it. Seems to work pretty well.

Does anyone else think giving taunt (through Defender of Argus) to a Stealth minion is broken? I mean, you basically lose unless you have AoE because you cannot attack the Stealth minion directly, nor attack around it because it has Taunt. I think that's a bit... lame.

You can attack around it. Taunt doesn't apply when it's on minions that are currently stealthed.

Wait really? I thought the taunt overrode the stealth.

If that works I'll have to abuse try it.

You can attack around stealth minions once they have taunt.

I swear my game broke or something. I'd never noticed it before until a match just now and seriously sat there like "what the fuck."

Either I'm just not paying attention from just waking up or it was a one-time glitch. OK. Makes me feel better though that it wasn't intended either way. Thanks amigos.

Just played a game against a Druid who had: Sylvannas, Gruul, Hogger and Illidan and several golden cards.

I see the WoW whales are into Hearthstone.

It is possible to get 3+ legendaries and a golden card or two in just a single pack. Even without a ton of luck the game's been around for a while now, a normal player who's good at arena could have easily accumulated 100+ packs for free (~90-150 packs a month really), and in a few months from now, that number could be closer to 1000 free packs. That's how F2P games work, the longer they're around the more and more people that have grinded every incredible card there is.

Oh, I expect players at ths point to have some legendaries in their decks. I was just amused that this player had 4 good legendaries, so he probably had even more legendary cards. I'm just having a hard time picturing someone dedicating that much time to the game.
