Hearthstone Closed Beta - Open beta in NA, elsewhere next few days. New thread soon!

Maybe, just maybe, I should have been smart and actually posted on that beta site since I actually managed to create an account.

Having been sick all week, still having worked with fever since I seem to be bit of a daft prick, makes for a bad beta hunter it seems.

Damnit.

I wish they were giving away all the keys at once.

Doesn't make much sense that they aren't. With registration closed and comments turned off -- it would make sense just to give the keys out now.

But, hey! It's a giveaway and they can do as they wish! I suppose it will continue to bring more traffic to their site and followers to their social media over the next weeks.

I'm in.

It's definitely the usual Blizzard polish approach applied to M:tG, except they're doing things that wouldn't really work in physical form like randomized multi-target attacks.

I think it'll be successful. Seems like it would be really tablet-friendly too.

It's coming to the iPad, they are already doing internal testing on it.

Just beat all the expert AI and I know have 200 gold saved up. Not gonna spend any more on packs now it's all about arena.

I also need to figure out how to stream myself. I tried, but I had trouble getting it to work on my Mac. For some reason the resolution was all wrong...

Why did they announce a tournament for "Grandmaster of the Hearth" when the game is in closed beta? Game looks ok, but seems to be run by a headless chicken

1. They have Blizzcon coming up and want to do something for their upcoming game.

2. It's an Invitational just with famous streamers and not something that's open to everyone anyway.

3. PR

So its a pay per view twitch stream of a beta, that sounds horrible

Except it's not. The press release doesn't mention that you need the virtual ticket and it will just be streamed on twitch normally.

Guess I misunderstood what this means:

"Don't want miss a second of all the exciting BlizzCon action? Watch the full event, which includes exciting Blizzard developer panels and other featurettes, by purchasing a Virtual Ticket today."

Oh, ok, that explains a lot. The stuff that's missing from the UI makes sense if they're intentionally keeping it touch-friendly.

Yeah, it's an obvious and very necessary direction for Blizz for this game. Expanding it to ipad would allow them to rake in so much more money. I expect their next MMO to also tie into mobile somehow.

It says "Don't want miss a second of all the exciting BlizzCon action? Watch the full event, which includes exciting Blizzard developer panels and other featurettes, by purchasing a Virtual Ticket today." at the bottom of the article.

You're not very perceptive for a community manager

I am not a community manager, you are just wrong.

That's what you are paying for besides other goodies like virtual pets or whatever... esports from Blizzcon was always free as far as I can remember....

I don't see how having an opinion based on Blizzard's published article makes me wrong.

I would imagine CM_Zeriyah is probably going to have a long chat with you at the office this morning.

You should probably read the paragraph before what you keep quoting. It says right there that the semifinals and finals will just be at the WoW Twitch channel. I don#t know why you are such a dick.

Anyway, Arena can really suck sometimes. Have a Warrior right now with 1 weapon in the deck which is a Fiery War Axe. It's not like I didn't want to pick more I jsut didn#t get the option. :(

Why do you keep calling him a CM when he clearly is not?

And it isn't an opinion, it is a fact. You are factually incorrect. Just because you are wrong, does not mean you have to be an asshole.

Well currently 2-1 with that crappy deck anyway. I guess the 2 molten giants help. Currently my tactic is to bait damage so I can get them out for under 5 mana. Super risky but I don't know what else to do. lol

Looks like these guys are doing a giveaway as well. You have to have a Facebook account to enter though.

not the kind of giveaway I might care about.
basically they want me to spam on facebook to get a chance to actually get a key, and the more you spam more chances you've got to actually get the key.

I don't have the time for this kind of s**t
and I don't have a facebook account either

Interesting read about what it takes to get a full set of cards - more can be found at the source below...
Complete set without regard for golden, and without doing any premature crafting.
  • The average number of packs needed was 512, with a standard deviation of 42.
  • The average amount of Dust used to craft cards at the end was 28,522, or 27% of the total craft value of the set.
  • 100% of commons, 99% of rares, 85% of epics, and 54% of legendaries were found by opening (rather than crafting).
If you bought it all with cash, 512 packs would be $640 at the best bulk rate in the in-game store. Any daily quest for 40 coins will save 50 cents off of this, and any Play mode win will save 4.17 cents. In other words, a full card set can be valued at any proportionate mix of $640, 1280 daily quests, or 15630 Play mode wins.

For people interested in the full all-golden set, this is the same simulation over 10,000 runs:
  • The average number of packs has gone up to 2789, with a standard deviation of 101.
  • The average amount of Dust for crafting is 220,369, or 51.4% of the total value.
  • 77% of commons, 69% of rares, 35% of epics, and 19% of legendaries were opened in packs.

Sethos gave me his because he has no interest in the game. You can see that a few pages back I think.

Interesting, but you really don't need all the cards to build a good deck. Worth to know for completionists though I guess.

I try to avoid this thread, get angry every time I'm in here. I'll leave now

Me and you both, I just threw it up for those that do.

Good info. Is it me or does that seem insanely expensive for a full playset? As in more expensive than a physical game like MTG...

Get good and you can win most of the cards in arena. I haven't bought any packs and have a full warrior set besides the legendary. Most of the other sets are missing like 2-3 cards.

I even have a couple of gold legendaries.

Yeah, considering that Gold Cards are basically there to be melted down for value and a playset is 2 card (or 1 for a Legendary) it's not actually that hard to get a good playset together.

The 5-card packs do indeed make collecting a full set a somewhat depressing proposition. It makes the collector in me sad.

But it makes sense and is very fair from a PLAYER perspective. Dust ensures if you ever need a couple cards to complete a deck, you should be able to get them pretty easily.

It's just completionists that get pretty hosed.
