Heavy Rain - A Neogaf Official Thread on the Gaming Forum

Played the demo through twice and was blown away by how amazing it looks as well as the unique storytelling methods. I'll definitely be picking it up on release.

Does the Japanese version contain English VA or subtitles? I live in Okinawa and will buy a copy RIGHT now if it does. Does anyone know if getting the Japan version will affect trophies or anything like that? Trying to decide if I wanna just wait two weeks (takes a week to ship from Amazon to Japan.. -_-) or buy it now.

Yes on the English VA & English subtitles. : )

But, I wouldn't know about the trophies, sorry.

Look at the top left picture and compare it to the bottom left, you can see several differences. One has a bigger nose, lower brow, larger mouth, fatter face (higher cheekbones maybe). They're similar in design, but it's not the same person. Even if it was it has no barring on the story as it's something that takes place outside of the game, and has little to do with the actual Origami killer.

Preordered at gamestop today :D I realized I had like 60 dollars on a gift card so together with a less than the regular super sweet trade-in deal, I'll get this & FF13 for the price of almost 1 game :lol Tried to sell the interactive thriller notion on my mom but I dunno...

Stores in Toronto (mainly blockbusters) are already selling/renting. I'm going to wait until Tues though since I work all weekend and wont have time to play anyways.
Checked out 3 in Downtown Toronto. All no go.

People on gamefaq are spoiling the hell out of the game I even know the killer great!
Hate to say it... but that's your own fault. Never been to Gamefaqs or? I'm thinking of avoiding this thread soon too, just to be safe.

Dont really care though, just warning others how carelessly they are throwing it about
Had it ruined for me there too.

My own fault, I know. I just can't help but visit every site possible for a game I'm really excited for.

Really sad to have found out though. Still sticking with my preorder but now I have to accept the fact that I'm going to be playing the game with a different point of view now.

That is funny, because when I read your first post, I thought you meant you live in a house with people in thier 50's LOL:lol

Completed the game. Got it on Thursday night and played for 5 hours till 3am - it was hard to put down! Continued on Friday night and completed it moments ago. So about 9 hours from start to end with some sightseeing thrown in here and there.

Game is amazing. Story can feel disjointed depending on your progression path
(On my play through Madison never met Jayden but somehow she knows about him)
but I guess seeing everything the story have to offer is a good excuse to play it multiple times. And despite the occasional poor dialogue and spotty direction, Heavy Rain in its entirety is a VERY compelling experience. Many a times I find myself wrangling or hunching over the controller as the scenario unfolds before me, being manipulated like a marionette by a masterful yet simple presentation. David Cage did not just directed the on screen action/dialogue/whatever in the game, he directs the player's emotion in a way I have not felt since Ico's simple gesture of holding Yorda's hand.

The story is actually pretty good, kept me guessing at the killer's identity till they revealed the name. The pacing is good, balancing the calm with the panicky moments, the action sequences and he mundane ones. I found it hard to put the controller down once I'd started. Animation and graphics varies from average to amazingly photorealistic but overall it's among the better looking and moving game out there. There are some technical glitches like screen tearing and texture loading in but it's nothing major.

Voice work can be a bit spotty but not immersion breaking. In fact, I found Jayden's voice to not fit him at first but he ended up as one of my favorite character by the end so I guess the voices do work for me after all. Sound effects are amazing though, very good use of ambient sounds specially with a surround setup. The music also fits the mood very well but I found it getting repetitive towards the end.

Overall, I love this game. It's a rare experience and one that should not be overlooked. I also cannot wait to get back for another play through, doing things differently and seeing the other outcomes.

As mentioned before the japanese version contains English and Japanese voice, subs, and menu options. Trophies should work on all regional accounts and PS3 at least for all the other games that I have (US, Jp, Asian and Euro!). The Jpn version is censored however. No nudity (with strategic camera work they avoided showing any boobs and butts to the impressionable Jpn audiences!) as well as the option to use the toilet when you are semi naked is missing... So if that matters to you, get the US or Euro version.

Anyone else see a strong resemblance between Detective Shelby....

...and the great James Gandolfini? The heavy breathing seals the deal for me.

I saw 4 HR adverts here in the UK in the last hour
They're all about 5 seconds long each, from the shelby store scene, one time it shows him talking the dude out of robbing the store, the other time he gets shot - no other information aside from the name/release and a youtube link

Really?
Middle aged fat guy, kind of droopy and tired looking. Weird, bulbous nose. Heavy breathing.

Guess it's just me.

I still haven't seen any of the outcomes where a character dies. Makes me wonder who'll I'll lost throughout the story.

i ve just finished it,loved it:D try to stay away from spiolers for your own sakes

Unfortunately, I became about 80% sure of who the killer is through playing the demo and watching a couple of videos. Google and me, my own worst enemy, more or less confirmed that a couple of minutes ago. Seems very telegraphed (and I retain a bit of hope that I'm somehow wrong....) but I'm really looking forward to it anyway. I don't know the finer details. :)

I finished the game an hour ago.that was awesome.I probably played hours and hours, and then of course I fell in love with Madison Paige.this can be a Heavy Rain 2 spoil.

I guess I will bite in the end, 4 more days for deliberations. I really loved the demo and the game style suits me fine (I loved IP, yes, even after it went Power Rangers - the fight on the roof was insane). On the other hand I don't know what is the replayability of this game. Here's the problem: I would like to keep it, so I can play it in a year or two, show my parents, wife, etc. But I don't want to pay full price >.< But then I want to play the game ASAP. DAMN IT!

How long is the Heavy Rain demo? I just got my slim delivered but have a big exam. Wondering if I can just play short or if I'll be locked in away from my studies for hrs.

I've played it like 5 times, but it usually takes me about 30 minutes or so, depending on how much extra stuff I do like investigating in the 2nd part.
You probably could get through it in like 15 minutes, you should at least play the Motel part.

Its really not long at all,25 minutes at the most.

Wow Sony really pulled out all the stops with the launch event. Some really prolific faces there. Terry Gilliam, Neil Labute, as well as the main cast of the game. I'm just so surprised to see Gilliam there. Lots of really good press for this game, at least in Europe. It feels like a movie premiere to me.

I have heard there is a trailer before Shutter Island.
I only heard about that in Australia.

I mean Sony almost got this one right. They had an early embargo to allow for good early reviews, they put up an early demo on the Store which they could point consumers to, but they don't actually make a freaking commercial for the game. It just boggles the mind. As if there aren't 3000 different police procedural re-runs on cable TV they couldn't advertise in.

just finished it
loved everything related to the story / character :D

about the game itself , i already experienced the same thing in indigo ( which i loved ) so i there's nothing new here except the shitty six axis stuff .

also camera and controlling the character sucks.

anyway the story was pretty satisfying so i didn't feel disappointed at all .

Madison ass is unbelievable !!!
:D

Um....I think we are talking about ones for TV? Those, for obvious reasons, can't be shown on TV.

What are the obvious reasons ? :/

Because that is the ones they are showing on tv. Saw this on lionheads forum :

"Just chilling out in front of QI XL on Dave and during the ad break this weird computer generated trailer comes on - no text, no explanation in any way just some guy walking into a convenience store and trying to rob the place, then it cut to another advert ...

This really confused the hell out of me and I could only think of two games it would be referring to - Heavy Rain or a new GTA IV DLC, but as I hadn't heard of anything from that I decided to look up Heavy Rain trailers ... well it didn't fit with any I could find, but then towards the end of the ad break (which I was googling whilst it was the ad break as I was that bored ) the clip resumed and it came up with a glimpse of the in-game interactions and then ended flashing up the "Heavy Rain" name and the date ...

I can't quite decide if this is absolute genius marketing for the game or really far too cryptic for the type of person watching Dave at 23:00 on a Friday night ... (or is that me being unfair on Dave?) ...

Either way I think it's on of the best pieces of marketing for a video game I've seen in a long time - it doesn't show anything about the game, it doesn't even tell you what system it is on ... but it will appeal to a wider audience than is likely to buy the game normally and peeks peoples interest ... Maybe ... just maybe, this game might just shift some units! O.o"

The one I saw (the one I saw on the front page) had weird annotations for each choice you make. I can see how that works on youtube, but not on TV. You got to market to the mainstream audience as well unfortunately- something risky like that has the way that can repel more people than it can attract. I don't think that is what they want. Besides, this is a EU ad (noted by the rating at the start of the video) the majority of us in this thread were asking for NA trailers/ads.

I think an ad with that Butler guy will do for mainstream and maybe a nicer one dealing more with the story and emotions evoked in the character's struggles for us folk. But not that EU ad...it's TOO risky and "out there" IMHO.

Renters. :(

Unless buying Heavy Rain will make you homeless, what you are doing is totally shitty.
