I feel short-changed in the height department. I'm about average, or just below but I was tall for my age when I was younger. I just stopped growing at what seems like 15.

I grew outwards, but not upwards. And my dick got bigger.

Like overnight my shoulders, arms, chest, and legs just beefed up by about 200% yet I didn't get any taller.

Opposite for me. Was always short....but then kept growing until 23. When I got my drivers License I was 5'7". When I graduated high school was 6'1". Now I am 6'5".

Its a shame actually. If I had known how tall I would get I would have spent more time on sports. By the time I realized I was going to be a beast that ship had sailed.

I'm guessing that particularly tall and particularly short people might be a little bit discriminated against, but I really doubt you'll lose a workplace promotion if you're 5'7", lol.

Another reason why the world's sport is the best sport; because random and wholly consequential factors like height aren't a determining factor for success.

The best football player's a short arse.

This thread makes me realize that metrism should be the new -ism thing. When will the US finally turn away from the imperial system? It makes my head hurt. So, go METER!

I'm approx 1.70m but I live in South America so I'm average. I only know two persons who are 1.90m+. I never had problems with girls or with others due to my height, I think it is all about confidence, so don't give up or move here :P

One of my old girlfriends was 6'7'', I'm 6'1"

Sometimes she would pick me up to kiss her...I miss her, her body was like a playground, I would crawl all over her ass.

I know my friend has a girlfriend much taller than him. He's like 5'5" and she's like 6'1" and they make the cutest couple. I asked them if height was an issue at the start (because they found each other on a dating site, and those places tend to be more discriminatory), but she didn't care since she liked his personality and humor more.

AWWWWW

I'm 5'7". Messi is 5'7".

We're both ballin'
Me too!

This discrimination goes out the window past 6'6".

-Can't fly anything but first class over 4 hours.
-All pants have to be tailored. (the tall part of big and tall does not really exist, its just for fast people.)
-Limited choices of what cars you can buy.
-Try going on some roller coasters or rides

I am 6'8" and feel like height should nee covered under ADA sometimes.

I'm 5'10-5'11, and even I think I'm short. There's fucking giants at my college. It makes me feel really bad about my self.

It really should be. I think this has been discussed (publicly) before.

Is everything in proportion?
No, which sucks when you're short because you can't exactly show that.

I'm 6'3", and haven't noticed any societal benefits of being tall outside the very real benefit of being able to reach things on high shelves. I'm aware that such things exist, but so far those sought-after "positions of power" have eluded me.

What the heck. I'm 6'. Yet, I am ALWAYS the shrimp when I go out. Why is every single person in Michigan like 6'4"? It's actually a bit annoying. It makes me feel like a little kid :/

I'm not even kidding about this. I noticed it last time and started paying attention and there was seriously like 1 other person who was just equal to my height. Everyone else was taller.

Taller individuals are often placed in greater positions of power.

An example is the trend of the taller candidate in a Presidential election to win said election.

"A survey of Fortune 500 CEO height in 2005 revealed that they were on average 6 ft 0 in (1.83 m) tall, which is approximately 2.5 inches (6.4 cm) taller than the average American man. 30% were 6 ft 2 in (1.88 m) tall or more; in comparison only 3.9% of the overall United States population is of this height. Similar surveys have uncovered that less than 3% of CEOs were below 5 ft 7 in (1.70 m) in height. Ninety percent of CEOs are of above average height."

In the media there is typically a negative association with being shorter.

Do you have any experiences with heightism?

Do you think the prejudice is largely ignored?

I'm 6ft 4in, and I can say I'm generally viewed in a much more favorable light then everyone around me when it's really 100% undeserved. Also girls tend to flock

Going from experience, I've found women to be the ones more likely to discriminate based on height in professional settings, but I've found it to not be all that common regardless. It might be more common when trying for chief executive officer positions, but, at that level, you'll often be a face of the company and very visible so it may be wanting to project a powerful image. It sucks but short typically does not match that image. It doesn't mean you can't be successful. It just means you'd be better off trying for a board position with less visibility than CEO.

I remember going to my first "high end" bar in NYC with some friends who were showing me around town, I was naturally intimidated by all these beautiful tall (5ft 9-10in) girls with HEELS. Until I realized due to my height (6ft4in) I was basically one of the few guys in the room who wouldn't look stupid (by being smaller) next to these girls. Life has be nice since I realized my advantage and grew a pair also lol

For all the short people, you have it nice on public transportation (bus/subway/coach), so we tall guys should have our benefits also ;)

when threads about height appear on GAF, I am always amazed at how freaking short I am: 5'4

this alpha male thing is in the head (in both actually, haha), not in height.

I'm 5'6" and I have tremendous swag, so it never mattered how short I am. Never affected me getting good jobs, getting chicks, playing sports (I still play basketball regularly), having friends/a nice social life or anything else.

I certainly always feel that my height slightly changes people's first impression of me. People will often throw out, "You're so tall!" as some sort of compliment. The positives of being able to reach higher places and seeing over crowds are easily offset by the constant difficulty in fitting my body into a world designed for shorter people. I actually feel bad for those taller than me as I know how annoying it is to buy clothes, fly on planes, take long car trips and live life as someone that constantly stands out. As I always tell people, unless you are dunking basketballs being tall serves very little purpose.

So transportation benefits = social benefits? Yea, don't think the real world works on that equilibrium principle.

I am just slightly under 6'6" but have relatively long limbs (36-37" inseam on pants), so I feel you pain. The GAP and a few other stores used to carry 36" pants (which are still slightly short, but wearable without looking like flood pants) in my area, but they seemed to have decided that tall people don't need clothes in recent years.

And you are right about the big and tall stores. They have pants that fit me length-wise, provided I had like a 50" waist. if you have a normal 34" waist you are SOL.

Answering the OP's question, people would are taller, better looking, or smarter are always going to have it easier in life (especially if they have all of those things). Those are universally attractive characteristics that are programmed into us on a biological level, and studies show that people have a more favorable opinion of people who possess certain biological ideals. You don't need to be good looking, tall, or even that smart to succeed, but it definitely makes things easier. If two candidates have exactly the same qualifications/connections, but one happens to be good looking while the other is not, the good looking person will typically get the job. Being tall is just one of many features that are considered attractive in males. It is not the be all end all though, unless we are talking about extremes. You probably would have a harder time being taken seriously in a position of authority if you were an adult male under 5' for instance.

I was on a greyhound bus for 5hrs on July, I would have gladly given up my social benefits to not feel like I was in a cage

and like above posters are saying, shopping for clothes sucks, luckily at 6ft 4inch I don't have nearly as many issues as the 6/6 and 6/8 posters do, I just can't imagine the pain in the ass it is

so not only am I tall, I have really long legs, so pants are pain to find

i'm about 5'7". i am a law student and i know that if i walk into a court room against someone who is over 6' then i will instantly lose credibility.

but i have always been treated with respect and have always appeared confident. so i just get over it in the end, it is not like i have a choice and there are many people even shorter.

if i don't become successful i am never going to blame my height. i got dealt a bad hand but that is no excuse, especially when others have made it facing serious discrimination.

6'3" middle class attractive fit white male reporting in

also my penis is slightly longer than average

also I'm super smart

also I'm American

also my biological parents are still married and have never separated

another issue with being tall, at least for me, my attraction for girls under 5ft 8in is considerably less when small guys don't really see the issue. If a girl isn't tall (5ft 8in+, but I really prefer 5ft 9-11in) I really don't want to be seen as a couple with her, even though they really want it happen. So you smaller guys don't have to worry about that

You don't have to worry about a girl being taller than you. That is a real issue for me.

And what happens when girls below 5'8 want to date with the opposite discriminatory standard?

I think my country has a real problem with lifeism. Undead Americans are people too, but we just walk all over them. Literally! How would you like it if someone put you in the ground, gave all your stuff to your family members, and got on with life as though you didn't even exist?

I'm currently dating a girl that's 5'2" and it's the best thing ever.

In terms of picking up girls it makes a huge difference. Sure I'm not the best looking guy, but I habitually get passed up for taller guys that behave like ogres and have the intellectual capability of a basset hound. I would also stake that many of them are uglier, so heightism > lookism in terms of picking up girls, even shorter girls want really tall guys. I think as some sort of weird form of compensation. Part of the reason I'm part of the forever-alone collective is undoubtedly because of my height.

Edit: Also Ken Masters you're in the minority, most tall guys don't pay attention to a girl's height.
