(Also know as just Hells)
So I watched this the other night, and boy was it special. Some of the most stylish over the top animation and visuals I've ever seen coupled with an absolutely insane balls to the wall plot, ridiculous characters that still somehow found the time to be compelling to some degree, and lots of really really cool ACTION.
The plot starts out pretty simple; you got some nice high school girl getting hit by a bus and sent to Hell, where everyone is ready to rock the fuck out because they're in a school run by Elvis. The thing is, the girl was sent to Hell by mistake, so now she's looking for ways to go back home. Saying anything else would be a spoiler, but if you haven't figured it out by now, it gets pretty nuts.
Might as well cross-post my impressions from the anime thread.
I would post more impressions from the thread, but some are lengthy like mine, so let's leave it at that for now. Needless to say, people enjoyed it immensely (some more than others).
Here's how it looks in motion (gifs courtesy of wonzo):
I would post more, but don't want to spoil the fun. Here's a crappy quality trailer, but it is SUPER SPOILERY, so watch at your own risk.
So yeah, check this out. If you like visually over the top stuff like Redline, Dead Leaves, Gurren Lagann, etc. then this is definitely something you need to see.

Incredible. Absolutely incredible. How the fuck has this flown under the radar for so long? This seems like the kind of thing that would have been hyped up by the same crowd as Redline. I'm speechless at just how amazing this was. I can't even work up the energy to hit the exclamation key. That's how amazing it was. Every fuckin aspect of this movie was MADE for me.
Speaking of Redline, I feel that this addresses my complaints with that and then some. The first half of Redline was the lead-up to the race and it was pretty boring at times. Here, it's just insanity for nearly 2 whole hours, yet this didn't happen at the cost of build-up and character development. It's the kind of perfect pacing that gets my blood boiling. Any downtime was brief, and even then, the crazy visuals keep you entertained.
Comparing it to Redline probably isn't a good idea though. It reminds me more of something that Imaishi would do. The first half was kind of like a mix of Dead Leaves and Superjail, while the second half was... I don't even fuckin know, something really really really really awesome.
Have I mentioned how much I love this art style and animation? No? Well I REALLY love it. Again, it's something I would expect out of Imaishi. Fast and frantic movement combined with an art style that is PERFECT for that kind of animation. The variety in the designs, the rough feel, the everything; I don't have a single complaint about the look of this thing.
The premise is also something that brings out the awesome in every little thing. The kind of setting where Hell is just an all around awesome place and everyone is ready to ROCK. It's the kind of supernatural school life that just gets exponentially more insane as the story goes on until it gets to the point where it just collapses on itself in glorious madness.
Oh, and I have to give this story props for giving us the most hot-blooded incarnation ofin any work of fiction (that I know of). I can't believe they took the story ofEveand turned it into... that.Cain and Abel
Seriously, what a ride. 10/10, A+/A, Hat/Fabric, whatever kind of rating you want to give this, it's fuckin amazing. This is going right into my top 10 of all time, possibly even my top 5. I almost think this deserves its own thread. Anyone want to make me some gifs?
