Hideki Kamiya: "Multiple publishers turned down Bayonetta 2"

I don't know what the original posters intention was in using the phrase "DLC heavy" but I suspect he wasn't filtering it down into "only this specific type of DLC, other DLC doesn;t count because reasons"

I guess I was in the wrong for assuming we'd agree that multiplayer DLC is in a different category.

What's the issue with it if it isn't taking content away from the game or hindering your playthrough?

So if it's not Heavy Rain it's not cinematic for you?
Guess FFVII is an action game.

It's not an action game, but if you're calling it cinematic you probably don't know what the word means. It looks nothing like cinema.

So the multiplayer part is not a game? It's what? dummy data?

Fact of the matter these types of games (of which the Order is looking like a current gen representative) are dimes a dozen on ps3/360 (and will too on ps4/xbone) and notably absent on Wii/WiiU.
So if you tell people on Wii/WiiU that if they don't like DLC heavy cinematic game to check out something else you're speaking out of your ass because they're not there anyway.

The Order has been confirmed to get a bunch of on disc Day One paid DLC? News to me.

I wonder if the fan reactions were like a slap in the face for Platinum. Here they have a resurrection of an IP they love and fans love, yet instead of being happy about it many, many fans are upset and essentially boycotting. It's probably a pretty sobering scenario for the fine folks at Platinum. Doesn't matter ultimately. They have to see the writing on the wall that devs of their description are doomed anyway at this point.

This thread also makes me wonder how many people here understand the word "fan" comes from fanatic.

It all reminds me of Metroid Other M in a strange way. I recall plenty of fans saying they wouldn't even try the game due to it's story, which I always thought was a weird thing for a metroid fanatic to say. Now people are bummed that we haven't gotten anything Metroid in 4 years. Makes me wonder when Bayo 3 is gonna hit shelves. Haha.

People aren't boycotting anything, they are just not finding it worth buying a Wii u for. There is no need for a martyr complex here, it is more Nintendo's failure to lure buyers nothing to do with Platinum. They have delivered what seems to be a great release

it makes me wonder if P* can last any longer

So Kamiya makes it clear that no other publisher was going to touch this title and it was in danger of getting canned until Nintendo stepped it.

And yet somehow so called fan can't seem to grasp this simple fact, oh well I can't wait to play the game.

You'd be surprised.

Oh I ran into that idiot, he fails to grasp that Nintendo funded Bayonetta 2 and thinks that Sega will port it to the PS4.

I get that they really wanted to release Bayonetta 2 and Nintendo were the only ones that wanted it. But none of that matters to the most of Bayonetta fan base like me that don't own a Wii U and don't plan on buying one to play Bayonetta 2.. All Bayo 2 on Wii U is gonna do is put the final nail in that franchise's coffin because sales will be so abysmal (and they already are in Japan) that nobody will dare ever want to touch it again on any system.

Well maybe if the so called Bayonetta fan actually brought the game and system then maybe the game could have sold better.

My hope for this game is that it will eventually appear on the next nintendo console that actually has a proper controller and not a cheap gimmick or some plan b controller with uncomfortable stick placement. For the time being I scratch my Bayonetta itch by replaying the game on the ps3. I have a lackluster framerate but at least I get to play the game with the dualshock.

Please, the dualshock is a crappy controller. The Wii U pro controller is miles better.

Short term? They're fine. They get paid even if they sell no copies of Bayo 2. Long term? They're completely fucked unless they make changes that make them unrecognizable next to the Platinum we know today.

The console market had spoken more than a decade ago and what it said was definitely not, "there isn't enough depth and challenge in video games!" Quite the opposite really. No big deal, can't begrudge people for what they deem attractive.

People aren't boycotting anything, they are just not finding it worth buying a Wii u for...

That's probably correct... but it's a though thing to accept... all you not-buyers could experience heaven if you could skip a few mediocre/bad games a year. Bayo is worth more than entire franchises of actual good games... oh man, I'm such a fanboy!

To be fair, that change is probably going to be in Scalebound. There's no way Microsoft doesn't pimp that game super hard.

...

I mean, it's not like the WiiU doesn't have a good selection of really excellent titles. They're just nintendo games.

I don't have the pro controller, is the uPad fine?

Yeah, it's fine. But I can understand why people would rather use the pro controller. Lighter, more like a traditional controller, no distractions from the screen.

I preordered this game today, and will be getting a new big screen TV in the next couple weeks that should make this game pop rather nicely.

I think its a shame that this game is doing so poorly in JP, but I'm somewhat optimistic that it will be more warmly received in the UA/EU where, you know, a console market still exists.

Regardless, Nintendo's support of this title definitely maintains my respect for them as a company. I'm sure Nintendo, even from the get go, realized that sustaining this game from life support was not going to return whatever value they put out, however this game is a much needed "bone" to be thrown to Nintendo fans to pad the meek WiiU release calendar. The fact they are including B1 makes this an incredibly valuable package for someone like myself that is new to the franchise, and again, was something that probably cost additional monies that Nintendo will not be seeing back whatsoever.

The only reason to be mad over this is if the game doesn't sell well and the series dies as a result. Good for Nintendo for stepping up to give this series another shot, it certainly pushed me to buy a Wii U. Besides if I'm being honest I'm done with last gen (PS3/360) and would have wanted this game on PS4 not PS3/360.

That already happened with the first one and is the reason why Bayonetta 2 is Wii U exclusive to begin with.

Thanks.

I think what I'll do is replay Bayo 1 first, I was planning to dive straight into Bayo 2, but playing the first one will give me a chance to see if the uPad is nice enough without spoiling my first experience with 2.

Yeah I'm actually very interested in how that turns out. Does it signal a change in philosophy at P*? I can't wait to find out. They've been totally rigid in what they deem a proper action game for a long time now, but recent statements seem to reveal at least an understanding of why their games don't enjoy much mainstream success.

While I agree that people are not finding it worth owning a Wii U to be able to play Bayonetta 2 on, then what is the reason why gamers, that already own a Wii U, are not buying Bayonetta 2 ?

Yea it's fine, everything feels the same. It's just a matter of Pro being more compact and having a beast of a battery.

I said it before, and is my opinion ofc. I feel like non Nintendo users are letting good games bomb (not just Bayonetta), because the games are on a Nintendo platform, and the bulk of Nintendo users let them bomb because they are not their typical Nintendo IPs.
Sad situation really.

Ah Platinum. I'm so glad they are finding work and their games are getting funded, but its so sad that they have become a weapon in the hands of console warriors.

I wish Kamiya could tell us which publishers they showed the game to, so we could close this case with all the details possible. Maybe they'll talk about this in more detail later. Anyway, it's great that we are getting Bayo 2.

The Dualshock is the default controller for action games. Nothing else comes close.

I agree. I didn't use the Wii U pro controller yet, but compared to X360 controller, especially when using RB for lock-on, DS is way more comfortable.

I always play with the pad plugged in, so the battery's not a problem. I actually like my hands being further apart, but the weight is certainly horrible, I'm not sure about for a game like this though.

Wii U has better games than PS4/XB1

It's gonna be ok then. Well the Pro is lighter, sure, but not that much.
If you want my opinion, don't overspend right now for one, but when you can spare some money, get a Pro.
You'll find yourself forgetting you had to charge the thing, i'm serious.

Bayonetta, and this kind of gameplay in general, is not really for everybody (plus the fact that it's M-rated kinda limits the target audience).

The aim really is to invite the audience of this kind of game to the system.

It's nice to finally have this explained, in detail, straight from Kamiya himself. Maybe people will finally STFU and stop complaining (LOL yeah right).

Anyway, I can't wait to play this game when I get a Wii U. It looks absolutely amazing.

When you put it like that, it makes Nintendo's fan base sound horribly picky, but it may indeed be true.

[citation needed]
Well... you cited him... And you can probably find other citations too (I think so, too, at least currently) ;)

Now, if you want proof, I don't think you can prove anything. Not even that PSOne had better games than 3DO.

That's nice to hear. The DS4 battery is seriously disgusting.

For me any fanbase stuck entirely on one platform is just wrong.
I don't know about picky. Picky can be a good thing. They are totally unwilling to try new things. I have pure Nintendo users that haven't ever tried a ND game in the same category as pure PS users who have never tried a Zelda game. Both are missing seriously good games because of brand loyalty. I know it's not always easy to have every platform, but having your eyes open and being interested in what other platforms are doing is always good.
And imo, even if you are a broke bastard like i am, you can have all consoles in a generation of 5+ years, it's like buying a console every 1.5 year. I know that this month i'll have all the consoles this gen, including handhelds and a viable PC and i'm paid for less than most of you here, every month. I might even get paid for less per month than some do per week.

My impression is that most people in this thread saying they won't buy a console to get it aren't saying this. I certainly don't blame Nintendo or Platinum for anything. I thought the complaints were pathetic from the start. There are very few posts here that sound close to the morons on twitter.

At the right value proposition for me I may end up with a Wii U and this game. Right now that doesn't exist. I also don't own a PS4 or Xbox yet because they haven't justified themselves with enough titles I want either.

Wise words.

Thanks, Nintendo. Thanks, Platinum.

This whole scenario reminds of the Red Ryder Bbgun. Nintendo steps in and gives their fans something they would not normally get.

It's the most sexualized game I've seen on a Nintendo console in a very long time (in a good way).

The truth, people complain omg I cant buy all the consoles.. yeah I dont believe that one second.

For those people who are saying that Sega will publish this game on other consoles, please point to me the PS3/Xbox 360 ports of Sonic Lost World, Sonic and the Black Knight, Sonic and the Sacred Rings, and Sonic Colors. Not only has Platinum directly state that this game isn't likely to be ported, but the publisher isn't one to screw over Nintendo like that. So...can we stop talking about this now?

I feel way more comfortable wrapping my hands around a normal controller as opposed to the gamepad. The pad will most certainly work, but I think it's inferior to the Pro controller.
Provided you have hands large enough to reach the buttons comfortably. I personally can't use the pro controller because it's a stretch to reach Y and B. I don't have this problem with the gamepad.

You obviously didn't hear. They didn't port them because W101 sucked so bad, they thought it would all be a waste of time.

TLDR: Blame Nintendo.

Thank you Nintendo for letting them make a full game and not skimp. Any other publisher would have seen W101s sales and rushed Bayo 2 out the door, forget the Bayo 1 up port.

And Vanquish with a pro U controller is essentially the definitive edition.

I'm actually surprised that MS didn't go for this when it was being shopped around. Seems right up their alley. Especially since the first title was a de facto exclusive for the 360.
