I thought it would be a nice idea to make a thread to help fill peoples Hip Hop music voids. I'm a pretty heavy hip hop head so I'm always on top of new album releases but even I let a few gems fall through the cracks.
My GF works at a local music store and hooked me up with a few CDs for Christmas this year. I was pleasantly surprised by one standout album.

Blu & Exile's Below the Heavens
This shit is fucking hot, everything from the lyrics to the beat is top notch. The whole album for the most part is pretty damn raw, it's probably towards the top of my list for album of the year. I've been spinning this shit nonstop since Christmas.
Heres a sample:

I've got a few more I'd like to recommend but I'll do it a bit later. Feel free to recommend anything from previous years, it doesn't have to new.
Bacdafucup was the first album I ever bought with my own money. God I miss those daysharSon said:Haha was going through my music and found a group I forgot about.

Onyx. Not really a fan of the hardcore hip hop scene but I always found these guys to be dope. I always get amped when Sticky does his thing :lol
masud said:Eww some of you guys have terrible taste. But yeah hip hop is dead and backpacker shit that still sounds like its from the mid 90's isn't going to save it.
The thing is I don't really listen to rap anymore. I can list the rap I do listen to but you've all heard it (or should have) as its mostly more than 10 years old.harSon said:Saying we have horrible taste and not posting your own is not exactly the best way to make a post![]()

For anyone to say "Hip-hop is dead" just isn't listening to much except for the radio. I have heard all kinds of great rap. From some down south stuff, west coast stuff, east coast stuff, etc. There is some good stuff out there. But to be honest, not sure if there are CDs that I can sit down and listen to straight through. That is where mixtapes come in. I get the best tracks in a nice lil package.

I don't know when it changed from "guac" to "gwap" but some people out there are retards.. We used to call money "guac" as in guacamole because it's green. Then someone heard someone say it I guess and didn't associate it with guacamole and thought they heard "gwap" and then ran with it (Xzibit)..KiNeSiS said:

Mine too! But it's easier to ease into those country rap tunes with Ridin' Dirty, then work through the rest of the catalog which is all really good. Even the solo albums. (I think I'll put on Pimpalation right now, in fact)Nabs said:this is the truth. don't forget super tight, that is just as good in my mind.

Get MM 3.5. It has no DJ and a couple of bonus tracks.
Nabs said:crazy how different our opinions are on that ghost. while the bdr was good, it doesn't hold a candle to fishscale (imo, of course).
