Holy crap, PS4-Vita Remote Play is unbelievably good.

Remote play is great. My biggest problem with it though is reliability. The first time I tried it, the Vita couldn't find the PS4 that was literally only 6ft away from it. Took me more than a few tries and switching off other wireless equipment for it to work.

When it did work it was good, though. You can definitely feel the 30fps (I was playing Resogun), and the image quality takes a noticeable hit, and I had some frame skipping as well, but it serves its purpose. And being able to play over the internet when not at home is a fantastic addition. It will probably be great with those time consuming, grinding RPGs. Overall, it is a nice feature, but in my experience it has plenty of room for improvement. Wonder if the software can be update and iron out some of those issues.

The software is definitely updatable in Firmware and will continue to improve alongside Playstation Now. Both solutions are using similar software solutions and the constant development will help improve remote play in FW updates. The Hardware may also be updated in future models - These would not require a change to the external case and a full revision of the hardware, simply an internal change as became popular last Gen (constant 360 motherboard changes)

somehow I was bored, and I looked through some of your posts.. like the last 100 posts.. damn you are a negative dude.. 95 of your last 100 posts are negative.. does anything in this world make you happy..?

Probably people responding to his negative posts...

If it had all the buttons and 60fps I'd be just as positive. As it is, it's just ok. Wii U and the Nvidia Shield both perform much better.

The Wii U gets brought up as a competitor, but the games support and supreme usability concerns (it cannot be used over the home network, only through the Wii U's direct connection between gamepad and console), makes me disagree with you greatly.

Haven't used the shield so can't comment on it besides, I do wonder what the game support situation is for it.

Honestly I've been pretty disappointed with remote play. Both direct connection and over wifi has given me major problems. It slows down to a crawl after a few minutes disconnects constantly. It's really disappointing because remote play was a big system seller to me. I'd love to be able to fix it so I'll take any recomendations.

My ps4 is down in my basement. I can't remote play in my office on the first floor or my bedroom on the second floor. The only reliable connection for remote play is when I'm sitting on my couch in the basement and then what's the point?

What are the chances of a redesign of the Vita? I am debating getting one this year (although I mostly play mobile games on my iPad)

It's one thing to stream it in your house (over your router) and something entirely different to stream it over the internet.

I see no reason to use a Vita over a home console when you are at home.

Haven't they not long launched the 2000 model in Japan? (you'd have to import it though)

There are many for me. I wake up, don't want to move, grab my Vita off my nightstand and off I go in Ass Creed. Or someone else wants to watch TV and this is a way to progress without hogging it.

Played don't starve in bed last night for an hour before sleep.

So good infact that it'll make me double dip on skyrim when that comes to the PS4.

I genuinely hope the next revision of the PS4 has 5 GHz wifi, along with the next revision of the Vita. That, along with iteratively improved streaming firmware and software updates, should cut down on latency, improve connection quality, and allow for 60fps.

I already own a Vita (since day one), but I'll definitely grab another when/if that upgrade happens, and if I've already purchased a PS4 by then, I'll trade it in for the slim w/ improved wifi.

If you live by yourself then yeh i get it. However if you live with other people and they want to use the tventertainment system then its a godsend.

The ps4/vita combo has truely rekindled my love with gaming again. Well that and also my new ipad but thats for another thread...

Here is my question.

What would be the better experience assuming you have both a PS4 and a Vita?

MLB '14 Vita? or MLB '14 PS4 Remote played to Vita?

I already have a Vita, MLB '14 might be my PS4 system seller.

I love my Vita and Ps4. Keep in mind that i got a Vita at launch, and was super fucking disappointed that is didnt go well with my Ps3. Now, its amazing. Basically a Wii U. Diablo will be amazing with remote play.

I've been less than impressed with remote play myself. It may be because the only 2 PS4 games I have are Battlefield 4 and Resogun. Both games are 60 FPS, which makes the switch to 30 FPS on the Vita jarring. Also, the BF4 controls are mangled, most of the text is made extremely small and hard to read and the tiny Vita analog sticks prevent any kind of fine control. Meanwhile on the Wii U gamepad, Mario 3D World runs 60 FPS and plays wonderfully because I am still using the same controller. It doesn't have the range my Vita has, so there's that. I am hoping some games come along that I'll actually enjoy using remote play for at some point, as it's a cool feature. As someone who owns both a PS4 and Wii U though, it's hard not to be a little underwhelmed.

I love remote play with the Vita and PS4. Never worked right on the PS3 for me, but the PS4 remote is so much better. I love how games like AC4, COD4, and Don't Starve have Vita control schemes and wish all game had them. I think I use my Vita more to play PS4 than actually playing off TV with a PS4 Controller...

It's pretty decent, but 30fps (and honestly feeling even below that, but maybe that's just the big disparity making me think that) kills it for me. I still use it every once in awhile but not NEARLY as much as I thought I would pre-launch.

The button mapping in some games can be very annoying (Battlefield 4 for example).

At home, it works great. Your mileage may vary otherwise. It is almost always too laggy to enjoy when I play remotely when visiting family 130 miles away. I can sort of enjoy AC4, as long as I'm not doing any kind of chase that requires precision.

Remote play is great. I've been playing Don't Starve on it for the past few days and only had one hiccup out of like three hours of play time(and that was probably just because we were streaming and downloading stuff on our pathetic network)

My only complaint is with devs not utilizing the feature correctly. Thought I could play Warframe on the go, but some attacks and moves don't work with the back touch which caused the only problem I've had with RP so far.

remote play is great... for some things.

like NFS Rivals, it's great for that. AC4... also great. Killzone... less than ideal. Pinball Arcade and Zen Pinball 2? Horrible.

*within range* off screen Wii U games all run perfectly. Pinball and fast paced FPS games run great on it... not just a subset of the games.

I'm happy with remote play... don't get me wrong, but it's not good for everything (which creates a similar situation to how not all Wii U games support off screen play).

out of the house... there are some games where the lag is tolerable, like Doki Doki Panic and I imagine Don't Starve would be just fine that way too.

60 fps if they can make it happen will reduce the input lag by 16 ms or so, which will potentially help with some games, like the pinball titles. As it is, something I was once planning on buying a Vita TV for (if they ever come to America) is now completely off the table for me. I'm very much enjoying my vita though, and fortunately it can play those same pinball games natively, so it isn't a huge problem.

Here is my question.

MLB '14 Vita? or MLB '14 PS4 Remote played to Vita?

Both? I'm pretty sure you can share franchise progress between the two versions.

Well for someone like me who doesnt use their Vita away from their house (never say never..just not much) and it's more of a thing to do in the bedroom when the Wife is doing her own thing on her laptop/tablet/phone whatever.

No reason to buy the Vita version right? Just play the ps4 version remote. Almost seems like it would hurt Vita software sales. I imagine not enough people would do this though to make a difference.

Don't Starve is cool with remote play, and so is Resogun. Yes, the latency will effect action games, so i would stay away from online multiplayer, but if you put Killzone SF or any other FPS in easy or normal mode, then play campaign, its fine. Yeah, you will take some hits you could have normally avoided, but easy mode negates that, and you won't smash your vita against a wall.

I feel the same way. I don't have a PS4 yet but I live in a 3 story house and I expect this to be my experience.

I have a 4800 square foot, 3 story house (including basement), with the PS4 on the top floor, corner room. I can play anywhere and outside on the deck with no problem. Are you going through your router or trying to direct connect? Also, make sure your not setup on a channel with 40 neighbors on the same channel. There are also some router settings you can do to elminate a lot of the lag/stuttering issues I see people talking about.

Depends on how often you are around internet and have a decent connect.

If you typicaly have internet connection around you and remote play works well where you are then might as well just do that. The vita wersion won't look half as good and have everything the ps4 version does (in theory). It also depends on how much the latency and whatnot bothers

If you don't have internet access when you're away and want to play vita then MLB vita would be good. The two games in the past have interacted so you can take your saves with you and finish games or your season on the road. I had both and it was nice because I could play at work where the internet is crap.

Care to share those settings? My router is currently on channel 9 is that cool? I've tried both direct connect and through the router both with the same choppy experience.

I feel the same way. I don't have a PS4 yet but I live in a 3 story house and I expect this to be my experience.

if you can run a longish Ethernet cable from your Wifi router to your PS4 and can locate your router to give you best coverage where you want to use remote play, that's always an option.

Yes, one with 2 shoulder buttons. Sorry, I have no idea when the most recent one was released. I only recently got a PS4 (my PS3 was stolen and not replaced)

With two additional shoulder buttons?

Not going to happen, they would be alienating the existing install base.

He's one of those guys who is trying to be known for a "shtick".

I've had 95% amazing experiences with RP at home on network and with direct.

On the road on a 3MB connection I could browse and use the console but as soon as I played NFS Rivals it was laggy. That was on a 3MB DSL bottom of the barrel connection.

It's a bit unfair if I said there wasn't some latency but when it works it works more than good enough and blows away RP on PS3.

I guess since hardly any games use the backtouch or at least make it mandatory to use it, that old vitas could map the back buttons to that so that new vita games could be made supporting this without dividing the fanbase.

That being said, Sony seems to always like to make something, then constantly make it thinner and lighter. For both their consoles and the PSP.

I would imagine since extra shoulder buttons would make it wider, that would be against their way of doing things.

Even faster than direct connection, that's some super router!

Glad you have it working nicely, hope to test it out myself someday. I assume you have the PS4 connected to the router via a LAN cable?

No kidding!

Im rocking an old DLink MIMO from 2006 and it makes playing via router impossible. Direct connect is excellent though it tends to vary in quality from game to game. BF4 being the best with ShadowFall being the worst... from what I've actually tried it on anyway.

I was impressed with it for the most part. I had it connected directly to the PS4. Knack works really, really well with it because of the slower pace and simplicity of control. I'd often find myself playing Knack on my Vita while watching hockey in another room away from the PS4. It was responsive and totally playable, albeit quite compressed. There is stuttering, which bothered me though. It wasn't entirely smooth. Shadow Fall was relatively responsive, but it is tough getting used to the back touch controls. I'd like the option customizing it myself so some of the games could actually be playable.

However, my network isn't the fastest so the experience isn't as good as it could be. It works though.

30 fps kills it for me in 60 fps games. BF4 is pretty shit.

Really annoys me that they didn't go 5 ghz. My situation has too many signals Also there is a bug where I can't turn the PS4 on using RP.

This is the best grip accessory for the Vita (in my opinion). Although i hope sony releases an official with with some OS level functionality (even though i bet it will be for the Vita 2000, not the OLED MODEL!!!) Maybe they will release a case that clips into the charging/data port and adds some triggers and new buttons (kind of like circle pad pro). In the meantime, i love these grips

I feel the same way. I don't have a PS4 yet but I live in a 3 story house and I expect this to be my experience.

I live in a 3-story house and for long range remote play I just connect to the WiFi with my Vita, the PS4 is connected by Ethernet, it works quite well but not as good as a direct connection when I'm near the PS4, but still very good on the WiFi.

As long as your Wifi connection is stable you should be able to remote play.

Tried this one time because i only have a vita and my cousin has a ps4. The only game he had was bf4 at the time but it was horrible lots of dips and stutter. Also only 30fps and the input lag was arround 30ms which is totally unplayable for me. Maybe it has something to do with the router or something because i wasn't close at it.

how far is your bed from the console

My PS4 is in the basement and my bedroom on the second floor of the house. I play games in bed with no issues. It didn't work properly until I changed the ad-hoc type though...something I had read on here I believe but it worked like a charm. Its pretty awesome. I suck at BF4 on my Vita due to the sensitivity of the sticks, but I'm still playing Beef in my bed and that's dope.

Try changing the ad-hoc type. That worked for me, it plays very well. No noticeable lag for me.

Honestly Remote Play is what makes me believe Playstation Now has a chance. I still think latency will be a problem, and will ruin some games, but a lot of games will work fine.

I wanted to add something to this topic, which I am glad it was made.

Remote Play is really awesome. I want to add that I have only used it in the same room as my PS4. I have not played from the other side of my house, or from outside of my house.

One game that really blew me away on Remote Play was Skylanders Swap Force. Anyone that has played it knows that it is an extremely fun platformer and looks really colorful and crisp. On Remote Play it is perfect. It is not a game that is effected by any input lag that may be apparent (I didn't notice anything that caused me to screw up while playing). You can have the portal laying right next to you to switch out your figures and stuff. It is a really good experience on Remote Play.

I want to add that I have Killzone, NFS Rivals, AC4, NBA2k, and B4 and I have enjoyed Skylanders the most via Remote Play on my PS4.

When Playstation Now hits the ground running, i look forward to the threads that are made about latency, problematic games, ect. Playstation is the right brand for gamers this gen, folks.

I feel the same way. I don't have a PS4 yet but I live in a 3 story house and I expect this to be my experience.

My ps4 is in my basement, same with my router. My bedroom is literally on the entire opposite end of my house on the upper floor and I have zero issues. I've never had my stream lag or cut out yet and I've probably played ten or more hours through remote play

I can't wait to try it once we receive our PS4, however the limitation of remote play to only 1 account (the account registered on the Vita) is a huge letdown to me. The consoles are shared between my girlfriend and me and we usually have our personal accounts, however we'll have to find a workaround if we both want to use remote play...
