Holy crap, PS4-Vita Remote Play is unbelievably good.

So it's better to connect to ps4 over wifi at home?

Yes, that is correct. For best performance, connect your PS4 directly to the router via a LAN cable. If the PS4 has no physical access to router, use home plugs. If your PS4 is connected wirelessly to your router, the remote play will usually be shit.

I love remote play

weirdly its much better to not direct connect for me

when u push ps button u can see level If connection. Direct connect i have 3/3 at 1m away. In my bedroom i have only 1/3 left with a Lot of lag

If no direct connect but ps4 in l'an on routeur and vita wifi i have 3/3 on my sleeping Room and no lag that really bother

Ac4 is amazing with good button mapping. Just its not wiiu quality u can see some pixels sometimes like on water. Or its just me ? When scrolling fast

The lack of R2/L2 and poor ergonomics are what kills it for me. The poor analog sticks and small buttons I could overlook but not the former.

Do you know how to do that though? I looked through all the settings, and the PS support site says it chooses the best one automatically, with direct connection being the best. Not sure how to set it to connect to wifi at home

PS Vita Assist Grip turns it into a huge awesome Dualshock! Best appearance for sure.

some? as in 50% of the frames :D Remote play is capped at 30fps.

Where can I get one from as in Aussie? Also how much?

Just disable direct connection.

For some reason I didn't connect the dots and tried twice to connect with my PS4 while it was using wfi and not a hard connection. I was wondering why remote play was sucking for me so bad and was so amazing for everyone else. I finally realized that it might have to do with it not being a hard connection when I was moving my PS4. I connected my PS4 through ethernet and now it works perfectly :P

Edit: What does it mean by direct connection?

I truly don't get it...

I have a Vita, a PS4, a Belkin N600 wireless router and a 50 MBPS connection (tested many times, consistently 30-50 MBPS wireless).

For whatever reason, even if i'm only 20 feet from the router / PS4 the Vita is getting a max wireless signal of 1 bar. My Galaxy S4, however, on wireless gets 5 (full) bars. I literally can't use remote play because of this.

Anyone know a fix? Not sure how I'm connecting to the PS4 (direct or through the router).

Remote Play is incredible. Remote Play and the audio jack on the DS4 have really made my gaming experience way better.

Does anyone know if PlayStation Now capable devices like Bravia TVs will be able to remote play? That would be a HUGE factor when I buy a TV later this year.

I really hope we get an option where we can use the Vita as a pure second screen and continue to play with the DS4.

There is no real reason why this isn't an option.

I'm given to understand that you can do this though I haven't tried myself. The procedure is something like sign in to the account you want to play on with ds4, then connect to remote play on a SubAccount, the ds4 should remain active. I may have missed some stuff but a friend tells me he's playing warframe that way.

Yes it's technically possible but the DS4 is connected to the PS4 still

I don't see why the DS4 can't connect directly to the PSV especially since the PSVTV should have that feature sometime this year

BTW does anyone know why red looks so pixelated? Everything else is sharp except red.
I don't have an answer for you, but I can tell you that's a common 'thing' with compressed video. There is a good reason, but I can't remember it and the explanation I googled made no sense to me.
Your eye is most sensitive to reds, and MPEG compression had always had a bit of a weak spot there. JPEG too.
I didn't see anyone address this in the thread, this was back on page 2-3.

If you notice it's not just red, but also blue that tend to have less bits or are more compressed.
This is an even split bitwise graph of the YCbCr colorspace (at 1/2 brightness)
240px-YCbCr-CbCr_Y50.png

Wiki on Video Codec Design goes on to mention that most video compression don't use an even split (4:4:4:4 or 4:4:4) colorspace, most of the time they reduce the blue and red components by 1/2 or 1/4. (4:2:2 or 4:1:1)

Wiki on YCbCr for more specifics about why we do this for image and video compression. Mostly to get away with saving space where we can live with it.
Even more information about macroblocks and some good sampling images to help visualize what's going on.

This should be a good start if you want to deep dive. :)

hey wait a second....

some game even recognize that they are being played via RP and make use of the front touchscreen?

why the hell isn't that an option the home menu?
swiping those boxes around and clicking on option can't be that complicated to integrate them, no?

Customized controls are developer choice for now. Hopefully Sony will add later customizable control scheme.

Spent a couple of hours last evening playing Don't Starve with remote play. Amazing - this evening I will connect PS4 to the router via cable to see if it really improves the yet good performances

is there anyway to pair up a vita and ps4 which are not in physical proximity?

No, it's only possible to pair your Vita and PS4 using either direct connection or your home network. After initial pairing you'll be able to remotely turn on the PS4 from anywhere, if it's on standby.

I was remote playing AC4 in the Vita while visiting family over the holidays. Looked great, played great. It's just such and amazing feature. Sony really knocked if out of the park with RP.

Guys, does anybody know if we can use the Vita as a second controller, not for remote play but for accommodating a second user (playing PES, etc. whatever). It would be great as I need a second controller but I won't have to use it that often..

edit: Oh, GAF makes me forget there's GOOGLE, for gaming questions. Sorry for taking space: http://www.lazygamer.net/general-news/use-a-vita-as-a-second-ps4-controller/

Oh, so buying a VITA not only enables Remoteplay, but also saves the expense of a second controller, if you are not into "equal footing" for local competitive mp.

Well yeah that would be ideal. If there's a vita2 and they want to continue pushing rp they're going to have to do something about control parity on the unit itself also.

I am having lots of lag with direct connection at my home even when my vita is like 4-5 meters away from my ps4.
Seems there is lots of interference. I see 10+ wifi connections in the same room. That may be the reason.
I will try via router and hope to have better results.

Edit: What should the minimum upload speed be for remote play over internet? Do you guys think 1 Mb will be enough?

Try pinging to your router by any means, if the ping to your wireless router sometimes jumps above 2-3 ms, it means your wireless is problematic, probably due to interference. I had quite a bit of a problem for my wireless connection, solved it by using a wi-fi analyzer for my smartphone and manually selecting the required channel(s) so it overlaps the least and the weakest external signals.

The upload (and download) speed of your internet connection is irrelevant, because you're only using your home network (PS4 <-> router, router <-> Vita).

As the above poster said, the ping (and signal strength) to your router is what matters.

Have had the same experience as the OP, played some good NFS while at work, played some FIFA as well but the back touch lad is awful for me, all in all I totally believe this is one of the best features in PS4!
I even bought a second Vita to keep it in my bag beside the one I share with my son lol

Still I'd love to upgrade my router, any recommendations?

I would also like to know. im in the same situation

I've tried connected directly to the ps vita and using the wifi, both showed the same results even when I toggle power save on or off. Same results meaning I couldn't tell the difference.
Anyone else in the same position?

I'm playing in my bedroom about 7 feet away from my ps4.

Thanks. I know it does not matter when i am using my home network. I would like to know the upload speed required when i want to play when i am away from home.
I am moving into a new house and my wifi is not setup yet. It's why I was only able to try direct-connect and can't try via home network or internet.

I think Sony officially recommends at least a 5/5 mbit connection, and that is also what it says in the official GAF thread:

Q: How fast upload speed do I need for my home internet connection to play Remote Play away from home?
A: Gaffers reported Remote Play working without data loss with 5 mbit upload and download.

Thanks for all the answer concerning Ps Vita grips.

After a quite long search, I think the best grip is the Hori one.

The problem is that.... I cannot find it anywhere online!!! :(
Please help me GAF!
I have this grip I bought it from amazon it's ok however the grips extend I find when I am playing its impossible to keep them in place. I have now ordered the power grip from nyko as the battery life on the vita is too short for my liking.

Does anyone else have a problem where they can't turn on their PS4 via remote play? My Vita is just sat on the 'Turning on the PS4 system' screen forever before it eventually times out. Does my PS4 need to be connected via WiFi and not Ethernet?

Edit: And yes, I've set the 'Wake PS4 via Network' or whatever option it is to on.

My PS4 is connected via ethernet and it works. Enabled the option you metion and only put it to standby. It works everytime.

mine is connected via powerline, which is essentially Ethernet and works flawlessly.

Do you mean they don't stay at their own place? They keep moving...
Sell it to me! :D

I have to ask, just to make sure: Your PS4 is on standby (LED strip is red)?

Yup, always on standby, never turn it all the way off. Does turning the PS4 on remotely only work when you don't use direct connection? It's the only way I've got it to work having just had another play with the settings, but I'd rather stick to direct connection because my WiFi's not really up to the challenge.

It would be perfect if the vita had l2 and r2 triggers

I would think it should be possible to build a vita grip with L2/R2 triggers that touches the back touchscreen when pressed. The area on the back touchscreen can be set to L2/R2.

Or an advanced mode that would need extra support from sony where it is even analog and the triggerextension on the back touchscreen slides down on it when the trigger is pulled....

So if anyone can build this (sony?) I will buy it!
