• Hey Guest. Check out your NeoGAF Wrapped 2025 results here!

Hopefully Xbox goes exclusives only too.

lol no chance with PC. Its possible with Playstation but doubtful. The most it wou;ld be is timed exclsuive like you said, 6 months to 1 year.

Maybe, 6 months, or 1 year after on PC.
Still don't get it? XBOX now = PC games. The Series generation is the last traditional console, the next hardware will run PC games from day one, even on the Helix console.

The exclusivity will be available on the PC XBOX store. At most there will be a special Helix optimization on the PC version of the games that will give them console-like capabilities in terms of UI and joypads.

I don't even see why they would release an Xbox if they don't.

Just go third party.
Problem is they have millions of long time fans with accounts full of games, mtx, stuff on other services etc.

there probably always will be some kind of 'Xbox', until they decide to go streaming only and end up a online service.

Pc is part of Xbox ecosystem. Imagine releasing triple AAA games on a platform that stagnated at 30M consoles sold (and will sell even less next gen with how prices are going).

…and then what?

XBOX no longer means console. They made their bed and now they have to live with it. On the plus side, you might get XBOX exclusives but that means PC too. Exclusive means two different things now. Sony/Nintendo = console only, no PC. XBOX = console and PC. At least that is what it looks like to me.

Agree!

Exclusives are important for consoles.

The xbox audience just voted them the number 1 wish for xbox.

PC has exclusives too.

Xbox will need to find a way to deal with steam, kumbayah mah lord isn't going to work.

Moving customers to pc with a much more popular storefront is an easy way to lose them. If they had an equally big storefront then maybe it would work, but that ship has sailed.

PC+XBOX is fine. As an old customer I want nothing else, it's great to have the option to play at higher fidelity and framerates. Playing Forza Horizon 6 at 140fps with extreme RT day -4 has been awesome!

Sony pulling out of PC is pissing me off tbh, because I don't want to buy a new weak plastic box just to play 5+ games over a generation, when I play everything else elsewhere.
Right now I'm at the point where I'll just ignore their bubble all together. They lost me. But I'm still going to walk away and lose something.

The problem for Microsoft is that "XBOX" isn't actually needed. Anywhere. You don't lose anything by walking away. You can play their games on Steam if you like the PC fidelity and performance. You can play their games on PS5 if you enjoy consoles.

The only "exclusive" they have right now is Gamepass. You need Xbox App to use Gamepass on PC. You need XBOX consoles to use Gamepass on console.

They need to pull more strings than that to not become irrelevant. Especially since Gamepass numbers will drop once they merge XBOX with PC and you no longer need Gamepass to play online and might choose to play everything through Steam instead of Xbox App.

Current XBOX sales in its strongest region (NA = Canada, United States, and Mexico) are abysmal — so much so that the Nex Playground console outsold XBOX during Black Friday week.

I'm not joking when I say this, but I think the only way XBOX goes back to 100% exclusivity is if Microsoft executives start doing advanced forms of crack.

Switching back to exclusives isn't going to magically undo the past 13 years of harm to the brand.
Confidence in the ecosystem is broken and studios needs diverse distribution channels to survive in the short-term.

I don't know what you are talking about OP. I have never heard of that hardware.

Do you mean XBOX?

If that's the system you meant, then no. No it has no chance in hell of suriving and going exclusive. It would need to spend a generation losing a lot of money to establish itself again as a place for exclusives. It's already losing money and not establishing itself.

Wah so exclusives are good thing now?
Yes...

Anyone saying its a "bad thing" to have your own suite of games that are tailor made to take full advantage of your hardware and simultaneously give it an identity, is quite frankly retarded lol.

ALSO.. Exclusives are good for COMPETITION.

A competitive industry will only benefit gamers, way more so than HURR DURR i cAn pLAy mY gAmEZ aNyWhErRe - Who gives a shit.

100% they should go Xbox and PC only for day one. Then throw PS and Switch 2 some odd games that make sense. I think all companies should be striving to just create really amazing games and if exclusivity helps build an ecosystem that supports that go for it.

MS doesnt NEED Sony or Nintendo Money. Forza Horizon 6 has just proven that, its just how much money do they want. If they make products with the appeal of FH6 they are laughing, and that goes for Nintendo and Sony alike.

They would need a steady pipeline of A tier and B tier games to come out regularly. Probably need 3 to 4 tent poles a year. That is difficult. No one can seem to do it.

So every game should be exclusive to "RTX 5090s", right?? Because what benefits me as a consumer would get from games taking full advantage of weaker hardware??

No, exclusives are the opposite of competition. You just artificially cut off any competition and forcing devs to release on yr very own platform when they could easily release everywhere else. There is a reason many big studios dont want to be under anyones umbrella anymore...cause they dont have to do this exclusivity shit and can sell where they want. 🤷‍♂️

The entire Project Helix is centered around Windows and the unification of Xbox and PC development environment/tools.. lmao.

I think console Xbox fans need to just embrace the unique strengths that fact brings to their platform.

Sony claws back exclusives and certain people are celebrating... MS explores clawing back exclusives and people seem to be saying no they cant do that? Make it make sense.

The problem they're gonna have now is that they've already shown the shareholders what they'd be leaving on the table going back. Gonna be tough to re-tube that toothpaste.

FH6 would've been a system seller.

But MS want all the money. And that's their biggest problem. Grasp all, loose all.

They need to take the short term economical loss to build up to survive long term. Create a solid reason why people actually need the XBOX.
There is no other way. The biggest market, the mainstream, ain't going to buy a PS6 plus an XBOX Helix if they can play all XBOX games on PS6. They'll buy a PS6 and go "What's an XBOX?"
